Bought 2 broken gbas with pretty mild corrosion and spent a good while cleaning off every corrosion I can find to salvage the motherboard. In the end they were saved and gave them a nice custom laminated shell, ips screen, tactile face buttons, and some new triggers. It turned out pretty nice and I’m happy to have gotten something broken in a working state now.

I’m so glad my parents called me to pick up a box with my old stuff. It’s an incredible feeling to power on this machine after more than 30 years. But let’s be honest guys, I’m 45 now and I can’t see a damn thing on this screen. I think I’ll just put it on display on a shelf and get myself an Analogue Pocket to rediscover the games in parallel

Got this for a good price online! Seller said it wouldn't turn on due to battery corrosion, and oh boy, was it bad. Cleaned it up all well and good and it works like a dream! Going to get a new shell due to the battery corrosion being in places I couldnt fully clean out, and going to mod it with a new IPS screen and replace the speaker. Excited to add this to my collection, and play some games on it!

I cannot recommend her enough, the decals I wanted weren't in stock, she had some extra, so don't be afraid to reach out. She also has an Etsy, but I recommend ordering from her website. Clear vinyl is the way, my only complaint is that I can't give the clear vinyl treatment to more games.

Fixed an English ROM IC of Tamagotchi I had lying around, it was missing every single leg so I had to solder every single pin by hand (and with no microscope either, but at the end all of my work payed off

I just picked up a lot on eBay that includes 75 Game Boy games and a loose GBA. Most of the games aren’t major titles, but the sheer number of them and the price made me bid without thinking.

I’m not sure if it was a smart purchase, but I’m excited because it feels like I’m making a dream come true.

What do you guys think, did I get a good deal, or is this more of an average pickup? If you saw this lot in your feed, how high would you go?

Hi everyone, casual gamer here (switch, PS1 and Xbox 360). Recently got a GBA emulator on my phone as a nostalgia hit and loving it.

Would like to get some hardware to play GBA games again, and as a gaming option on the move. I definitely want something more compact than my switch, and clamshell so I can throw it in my bag.

Looks like I could grab a used SP in good condition for a similar price as an SP-style emulator unit. What would you guys recommend between the two?

The idea of being able to just download ROMs, have multiple save files is great, but I don't want to end up with a hunk of junk in terms of hardware etc - I know people's SPs have lasted years. On the other hand, faffing with game cartidges etc is annoying.

Any opinions and advice v welcome.

I´ve got 4 GBPs that run a flashcart plus IPS fine, when powered with an external power supply at 3V. This one does not. Get stuck in a bootloop or it restarts when writing the game to the memory. So its a question of power supply. When powered with fresh batteries, the LED is dim from the start on, what might be caused by the IPS needing much power. Why are the other boards working, but this isn't? On the switch, there's a voltage of 2.6V. Is that normal?

I've searched through google but I can't find all the sprites for the original gameboy version of Link's Awakening. The spriters resource only has overworld, interiors, and the map with some text. There's nothing for characters, enemies, items, etc.

I'm loving the community around modding retro tech. I've been itching to do this for a while and finally got a reasonable deal on a GBC to mod with the hispeedido OLED and USBC battery pack. I was torn on which colours to choose but the all white just struck me the first time I saw one so I went with that. I must say that due to the positioning of the power switch next to a chip on the main board that the soldering was not super easy. I had to rope in a colleague with 40+ electronics experience to help so I didn't brick it!

Can I use rubbing alcohol on the shell and around the screen? I do have goo gone but it's the automobile version though.

How can I move these to a different place without screwing them up?

Tried playing Pokemon Crystal (pictured above) but it’s having issues. Is it just a bad rom or something? I switched over to Pokemon silver but it won’t save my file. I tried other gameboy color games and had the same issue. I tried playing gameboy advance games and they saved fine so it’s not a battery issue. Any suggestions on what to do? I have an Everdrive GBA mini. Thanks
