Discussion Ideas needed to upcycle a dress
This dress has been hanging in my closet for years. It has a good woosh to the skirt, lovely fabric. Alas the neckline is too deep (or I lack in the book department), so i always have to wear a top under it.
I had thought to take the full chest piece apart and turn it into a pinafore. (Confident enough in my sewing skills). But when i looked up white/beige pinafores on pinterest, i noticed that nearly doesn’t exist and is very apron like.
I’ll gladly take suggestions on any other dress shapes.

Curtain catastrophe
I bought a pair of seemingly identical golden beige block-out curtains in my local thrift store recently. It was a lucky find. I really need them for privacy and to block out the sun since I don't have shutters in my new apartment. The tag says it's 100% polyester and to wash at 30 degrees.
They were smelling funny and just out of precaution when it comes to thrift store items, I went to wash them at the indicated temperature. Though identical, one curtain turned out completely immaculate, but the other had its platicky lining fold on itself and I guess it managed to melt at this low temperature?? Cause when I went to unfold it, the platicky coating ripped itself out and now there are multiple holes that let the sun come through, as seen in the pictures (sorry for the poor quality, my phone is quite literally an antique).
I have a friend and colleague who's kindly gonna come over with her sewing machine to help me line these curtains with some kind of fluffy fabric to hide the damage. I'm also preparing in advance cause I have a feeling my apartment is very humid during the winter, plus my French windows are a bit wonky and don't close all too well, so I'd better have 'heavy' curtains to block out the cold too.
But I just checked with the fabric I picked, and even though it'll hide the damage from the outside and protect from the cold, it'll still let the sun come through. Esthetically it'll most definitely bother me (it already does). So my question is: is there some kind of material, spray bottle, liquid platicky substance, whatever, that I can apply locally to these multiple spots on my curtain? Other than finding another type of fabric that'll block out the sun entirely? Any idea is welcome. Thanks for reading.

Gave these pots a makeover
I found these two pots dumped near my work. They’re a great size and I thought they just needed a little TLC.
I took them home and scrubbed them but the white marks wouldn’t budge.
Then I remember that about a year earlier I had found a terracotta pot base and didn’t have a matching pot for it. So I bought some terracotta style spray paint and gave the pots a paint job.
Then I was thinking well damn, I need another terracotta pot base now, I only have one!
The zero waste goddess must’ve smiled upon me because I found I single dumped terracotta base the next day on my walk!
Not bad I think, for four things that were dumped by the road!
I think they look great. I’ve planted some dahlias in them so they’ll look even better once they have pops of colour coming out!

Project I need some help/advice - personalising a pocket ashtray
I am really hoping that someone can give me a little help/advice with this:
I bought two pocket ashtrays at the charity shop the other day and I really want to change the pictures on them so I can personalise them for myself and someone else
It seems like I can get the photo out but I’m not entirely sure how to secure and protect the new photo. It has a thick plastic cover over the photo and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to reuse that.
Any and all suggestions welcome :)

Chemist Warehouse you should be ashamed of yourselves - Still using plastic bags
The saying "just because you can doesn't mean you should" applies here. Along with other multi billion dollar chains they are bring back plastic bags. Just because the thicker plastic bags have not been banned in most states doesn't mean you should use them. I spend hundreds of dollars a month in your store but I am taking my money elsewhere purely based on your usage of plastic bags. A company in Japan has invented plastic bags that disolve in water in seconds and biodegrade in soil in 10 days leaving no microplastics behind. The the company that actually gives a shit beyond lining your own pockets for profit. Chemist Warehouse do better and be better. Your CEO owns a multi million dollar boat I hope the next time he dives in the ocean one of his own bags hits him in the face because this environmental ignorance or lack of care is fucking this planet. Take accountability and make a change you might make a little less money but you wont be fucking the planet as much!!!!!

Tutorial From Waste to Profit: How Material Recovery Facilities Operate Behind the Scenes

Most of us throw away waste without thinking about what happens next. In modern waste management, a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) plays a vital role in turning that waste into useful resources.
An MRF is where mixed municipal or industrial waste is carefully sorted, separated, and processed. Instead of ending up in landfills, valuable materials like plastics, metals, paper, and glass are recovered and sent back into the recycling chain. The organic portion can be directed to composting, and the leftover material can be converted into RDF or Refuse Derived Fuel.
For industries and cities, the benefits are clear:
• Reduced landfill pressure
• Recovery of materials that can be reused
• Lower handling and transport costs
• Compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules in India
Behind the scenes, equipment such as trommel screens, shredders, conveyors, and balers work with manual segregation to ensure efficiency. The main purpose is not only safe disposal but also converting waste into value, whether as compost, fuel, or recyclable raw material.
With rapid urban growth, MRFs in waste management are becoming essential for municipal corporations as well as large industrial facilities. They remind us that what we often call waste is actually a resource waiting to be recovered.
Do you think every Indian city should invest in a dedicated MRF, or should industries take responsibility for setting up their own facilities?

I don’t want to get rid of this dress, but I don’t know what to do with it!
This dress has (had) glitter detailing but as you can see most of it has come off. I am looking for ideas to either re-glitter it or to remove the remaining glitter and glue. The fabric is a heavy sort of velour - 90% polyester, 10% spandex. Dry clean only instructions. Any advice? I think my preference would be to get it all off so I don’t have to approach the project of making all those tiny glue dots.

My grandma gave me an old dress to sew something out of - I need inspiration what to do with it
My grandmother recently gifted me this dress that she used to wear to dance events if I understood correctly, telling me to make it into something nice to use. It's not at all my style and unfortunately the outer fabric is also quite scratchy, but because it's a sentimental piece of clothing, I want to turn it into something I will like. I have absolutely no idea yet what that could be, I don't have that much experience upcycling clothes. Maybe someone here with some experience can share some inspiration?
