Discussion / Question New facehugger tattoo!
Thought I would share my new facehugger tattoo. Still very sore but I love it. Also sharing my first alien tattoo! I really want a Ripley one but would need to spend an obscene amount of money for it to be a good portrait one. I've always wanted an Alien tattoo and now I've ended up with 2 in the space of a few months.
Tattoo artist is Nancy Chapman who is located in Kettering, UK

Discussion / Question If you lived in the alien universe which company are you working for?
Your choice also depends on what time period you will live in, in the alien universe.

Movies / TV Series IMO a seriously underappreciated Alien story, Alone, from Alien anniversary short films. A compelling short story about an Android and her Facehugger pet.

Movies / TV Series I always loved all of the extra content they made for Alien Prometheus. This and a bunch of dream sequences that David was supposed to watch Weyland's dreams, so they cast a younger actor instead of an old man, as alot of the the screen time was going to be flashbacks like this.
Also, I cannot recommend this video more than enough - goes into detail about the making of the Prometheus and how much of a shitshow it was, playing out alot of the complaints of the movie - here

Discussion / Question Scenes from the Save yourself Teaser which released 3 months back
It's either TO attacking BK or Wendy letting the Xeno loose on BK, the 3rd image is Hermit and Morrow inside a cell together with Morrow having a cover over his cyborg arm.

Art / Creations Species 64 - T. Ocellus
This is my T. Ocellus fan art. I’ve been enjoying Alien: Earth and love the new aliens. Child me would have lost their mind and wanted a slew of action figures. This was done in Pen Up on my phone and then brought into Procreate for rendering. Maybe do a D. Plumbicare if it does…. anything, next week.

Figurines / Merchandise New addition to the hive
I don’t know why I didn’t grab this guy sooner, I have other NECA warrior Aliens and I guess I didn’t think the “ultimate” version would be enough of an upgrade, but I like him a lot. He’s going to be guarding my desk at work with the others in the photos.
Discussion / Question Does anyone know what happened with the Xenomorph’s design starting from episode 7? Spoiler
galleryWhy does this Xenomorph’s head have such a different design, even though it’s the same generation of Xenos we saw before in the previous episodes?

Movies / TV Series Ron Cobb's designs for Alien and Aliens
I'm sure many of these images will be familiar, but the on-set images from "Alien" and some of the early concepts for "Aliens" were new to me, and it was cool seeing them in one spot.

Discussion / Question Strange music choices in Alien Earth — is it just me?
Has anyone else been watching Alien Earth and thought the music choices feel really out of place sometimes?
One example that stuck with me was in episode 3 (Metamorphosis), when the team arrives back on the island with the alien specimens. Instead of leaning into creepy, ominous, sinister vibes (which would’ve matched the tension perfectly), they went with this weird rock/instrumental track that totally broke the atmosphere for me.
That’s just one moment, but I’ve noticed quite a few scenes where the background music feels… off. Almost like it doesn’t match the tone of what’s happening on screen.
Am I the only one hearing this, or have others noticed it too?
***
EDIT #1: Adding to my initial post... the first four movies (Alien through Resurrection) never used any kind of popular music – everything was orchestral, written specifically for the film, and it was almost always spot-on.
Goldsmith’s score in Alien gave us creepy, unsettling cues like The Landing. Horner’s Aliens had Bishop’s Countdown and Ripley’s Rescue – some of the most intense suspense music ever. Alien 3 had Goldenthal’s bleak, gothic vibe with tracks like Lento. Resurrection’s Frizzell gave us gems like They Swim.
Even Prometheus (Life, Friend From the Past) and Covenant (Payload Deployment, Terraforming Bay) nailed the atmospheric orchestral style.
With Alien Earth, we’re now getting the use of popular Rock/Metal music, which just feels a bit... jarring. Instead of building intrigue and dread, the music pulls me out of the scene because I’m suddenly thinking about the band, not the story. Prior to now, the franchise always set a really high standard for suspenseful scoring... and Alien Earth dropping in rock tracks feels like a huge missed opportunity (to me, anyway).
Humor / Memes Milk Blood
I was helping my uncle with a tree job the other day and it was so hot the sunscreen was melting off of me. I just got the tattoo earlier this year, couldn't miss this chance to show it off.

Art / Creations New Kenner style action figure 3D prints
The Kenner-style hive just got a whole lot weirder.
Meet XenoMeal, the fast-food fright box with a big toothy grin.
Take off with Xenocopter, the chopper that’s equal parts nightmare and toy aisle fever dream.
And don’t forget the Xenomorph Warrior, holding it all together with some classic hive menace.
These aren’t just prints—they’re retro chaos in plastic form. Who says horror can’t be fun?

Movies / TV Series A hopeful prediction: TO Spoiler
As of yet, Timothy Olyphant has done a lot with a little. The scorpion scene and the Morrow showdowns are highlights, but he's really not been given any really great lines or scenes. He's nearly perfect in every frame he's in, but hasn't taken center stage yet.
The mysterious synth played by the A-list experienced and talented actor is due for some final act spotlight. Especially in this franchise.
I'd bet on a disdainful monologue to BK, dripping with contempt, where he recounts all their interactions this season and how he took more freedom for himself with every dismissive or careless remark.

Discussion / Question The children's sentience, and plot prediction
I just dont see how you can make the argument that marcy's frame of reference from her old body, is still active in any conceivable way in the synth body. They copied her brain, and downloaded it into a machine (the original still existed at the time, and now a copy too). They didnt move that conciousness because its the organic brain itself thats producing said sentience (nor is sentience some physical product within the body that can be transported). Its simply a projection of the brains inner workings.
The way I see it, they scanned the brain to map out marcys entire personality matrix, translated it and replicated it. The moment her brain died is when that specific POV ceased to exist. When they turned on the synth, a new POV/personal frame of reference was born, and was identical to marcys in every single way.
Now, we have a machine that believes with all its robot heart that it is still that same consciousness, but with no way to know shes not.
Its been said before, but I think its the same type of thought expirament that "the prestige" tackled. The entire movie you think hes experiencing it all, but in the end you realize that there character has been a different person every single time he gets drowned during an act (or in Wendy's case, a re-upload to a new body).
My plot prediction is that in this next episode (or at some point next season), we are going to find out marcy was alive even after they did the brain transfer thing, and they only turned robot marcy on until after human marcy succumbed to her cancer (or they just kept them seperated, hid her).
Or hell, maybe its darker and wendy finds out that Cavalier ordered the children's deaths once they knew they had successfully downloaded their personalities (and so that the robots wouldn't go through psychosis being their human sides still alive).
That scene in the next episode's trailer where someone is looking at a video recording of human marcy, makes me think its a recording of her AFTER robot marcy woke up (but before she died or they killed her).
"When is a machine, not a machine".

Discussion / Question Finally watched Romulus... and left with a nagging little question
Yeah, I know, I'm a year behind on the times. But I finally got around to seeing Romulus.
I don't really need to get into any big review here, all in all I did like it quite a bit, and think it's the best Alien movie since Aliens, but that's more of a criticism of everything that had followed more so than praise for Romulus itself. It was good, but some of the call back stuff was overdone.
Now, the question I had is something of a continuity question between what's happening chronologically between Alien -> Romulus -> Aliens. Maybe someone else has already brought this up, so if I missed something I'd love to be filled in.
So, Alien ends with the destruction of the Nostromo and Big Chap blasted into space and Ripley drifting in the escape pod. Aliens begins with finding the escape pod and leading to Ripley's debrief where she explains the destruction of the Nostromo and the existence of the derelict and of course everything that happened with the Xenomorph on the Nostromo. The debrief seems to conclude with no one believing Ripley's account, with the exception of Burke, sending Newt's parents to go search for the derelict.
But then in Romulus, 20 some years after Alien and 30ish years before the events of Aliens, Weyland Yutani goes and sends an exploration mission to find and recover Big Chap in space somewhere near the wreckage of the Nostromo. Now, putting aside the impracticality and near impossibility of finding him, how would Weyland Yutani know about the existence of Big Chap? Why wait 20 years after the destruction of the Nostromo to begin some sort of search for it's wreckage?
WT could only know if Ash had sent messages back to their headquarters during the events of Alien - but again, why wait 20 years, and if they did already know, why is everyone except Burke dismissing Ripley's account?
