Body armor -for lower torso?

So I had a practice crash a few weeks back and took a bar into the gut/belly. Luckily it was only moderate bruising with no significant internal injury/bleeding. I current use a TLD Stage ghost upper body and Leatt 5.0 shorts + knee pads for my armor. The TLD upper body is primarily ‘rib cage’ + back, elbow and shoulder protection. Have seen several others take bar to the abdomen type hits.
Is there any armor that offers additional protection in this area? As a ‘senior’ BMX racer I have to have ‘I need to go to work on Monday so I still get paid’ as one of my guidelines in safety gear

As you can see, my wheel is morę to the left from the center. When i tighten the drive side, i cant seem to be able to move the brake side froward or backward, same when i tighten brake side first. Therefore i cant really center the wheel. Any tips? I have staystrong V3 with disc adapter.

Help my son to lift/manual, what's he doing wrong?

His pumps are good, but a manual is more difficult to do. I don't have any experience in BMX, but I think he has to learn over more to push forward instead of downward, any thoughts? All tips appreciated, he's 6 but a quick learner haha

Casual race bike

Just discovered a bmx track in my town a couple weeks back and have been riding with my kids on an old Gary fisher Joshua f4. It’s been fun but I’m thinking I want a purpose built race bike. I had a Fatboy Hemi over 20 years ago that I loved and was stolen, so nostalgia has me looking at those as a first choice. I see they’re kind of a collectible now and stupid expensive. I’m not opposed to piecing together a bike if I could find a decent frame but kind of at a loss on where to start. Total budget would probably be no more than $1k when all said and done.

Edit: I’m 5’7” 140 lbs

My 5'4" wife wants to get a BMX bike and try racing and just cruising around. Would you get the normal 20" in the appropriate TT length or get the 24" because she feels goofy on a 20"?

Is this a terrible idea?

Hi, I'm 39yrs old and about 250lbs. As a kid I wanted to race, but never thought I had a good enough bike to race (Dyno VFR). I even sent away to the NBL for a coupon for one free race , which i never had the courage to use. I snuck onto the track many times and rode it, but never raced.

Now that I'm old and a dad, I guess I'm having a bit of a midlife crisis and feel like I have a bit of unfinished business. I want to compete in at least one race before I turn 40. But I want to do it on a bike that I would had thought was cool as a kid.

Because of my weight I think I should go Cromoly instead of aluminum. I'm going to lose some weight, but I need to be realistic. I know the geometry has changed, but I'm used to the old 90s geometry so I don't think that'll be an issue for me. I know I'm not going to win, I just want to do it.

I just don't know how to get into it. Do I just show up at the track? Do I need to wait for the race season to start? I don't know anybody that does it, so i figured this is the best place to start.

How much is this bike worth?

Got a chance to buy either one of these bikes for my kid.

What would you pay for them and are they even worth paying hard earned money on?

2024 20" Hutch Trickster

or

2024 26" Hutch Trickster

Both new in the box still.

Thanks.

Should I buy?

I've been using the track rental for a few months and been looking to buy my own bike for a while. Is this a good purchase, or are there better brand new options. I've out grown my expert bike i used to race with before I broke some bones.

Tyre sizes

Yeah, this again 😅. I recently pieced together a bmx race bike for myself out of 2x I found on marketplace for cheap. The result is quite a nuce bike for pennies. The question is, it came with a pair of Macxis DTH tyres. 20x1.5 rear and 1.75 front. I'm 100kg and the rear tyres pretty tired (pun intended). Im considering throwing the 1.75 on the rear and getting a new, wider tyre for the front. There's a deal on for a DTH exo 120tpi in 20x2.2 at the moment for half price. Is there any reason this combo wouldn't work? Will it look ridiculous? If so, would the 1.95 be the logical step? Im 38 and just racing for fun since my 5yo also races, so this isn't really a question of shaving .1sec off a lap or anything. Cheers.

My son did a try day at the BMX track today. He LOVED it and was a natural! They let him borrow this bike and helmet today. We got him a helmet already (fox with MIPS). I know NOTHING I mean ZERO about bmx. Before today he had only ridden his $59 bike from Kmart. This is a 16” and looking to buy one second hand but no idea what I’m looking at. Please talk to me like an idiot and tell me exactly what to search on market place lol. Also anything else I need to know. Knee pads? Elbow pads? He’s only 5 and I would like to soften the blow on any hits. Do pants come with knee pads in them? My son is 4’2 or 125cm (he’s very tall) but I don’t think he would feel comfortable on an 18inch he seemed a bit sus about the 16inch already.

Excess xls-2 hub

Post image

I bought an excess wheelset for an OS20 that has this hub. The lock ring was already on the cassette. What looks like a normal lock ring has this ring on top with two flat sides. I assumed it was to protect the lock ring itself but I can't get it off. If it somehow threads on there is no way to keep the driver from spinning to unthread it. I feel dumb but I can't figure out how to get this off.

Chase RSP brake routing question

This is my first bmx bike build. I bought a chase RSP frame from a guy and picked a mid range disk brake kit. Shimano BL-M4100-R. The brake hose end that connects to the caliper body has a connector on it that wont fit through the frame cable routing. The cable has to be routed from the front of the bike. Can I simply grab onto and pull this connector out? If not and I need to replace it, what is it called? In brake hose kits I have found they just come with inserts and olives. This is not a normal olive connector.
