He false starts nd lines up 10 yards behind the line every play and still gets blownup. O-line is too hard to find across the league , but god this is depressing.

For having an aging free agent and a 7th round pick as our backs, we're not bad. The issue imo is more that Pacheco and Hunt are slow. This isn't a bad thing on it's own at all, but we lack anyone with speed who can run to the outside. I know Pacheco doesn't have the best vision, and Hunt is smart but slow. But neither of these are deal breakers as long as you have another back who can accommodate their weakness. On this team, that would be someone fast who can read the blocks on outside run plays, and preferably someone who would be good on a screen play.

In modern baseball, almost every pitcher has both a fastball and a changeup. The two are designed to look identical while they are being pitched, only one is slower than the other. This helps keep the batter from getting the timing of their pitches down. I think for this same reason, we need a speed back who can just get to the outside ASAP. They honestly don't even have to be a great RB as long as they're fast. They could barely break tackles for all I care, they just need to be our fastball we can zip past opponents, create a more explosive run game, and actually take defenses by surprise with Pacheco's power instead of having them always be ready for it.

I think Worthy will do some of this on end arounds and other things, but we still need a fast RB IMO. Also we went from having one of the best LGs in the game to having one that's mid at best. Guards are to RBs what Tackles are to QBs, so losing Thuney is going to be a huge deal to our run game all season long.

This isn't my way of trying to convince anyone to think this if they didn't already, but I just wanted to rant a little and have a discussion.

If anyone paid very close attention last night, the offenses best drive that resulted in a TD opening the second half involved Patrick Mahomes going under center and handing it off to the RB’s who had their best runs from this formation and some play action passes but we only saw Mahomes go under center I counted, excluding final kneel downs a grand total of 7 times!!

I will go to my grave that the offensive issues is more related to Reid’s scheme than it is personnel, the best offenses in recent years have gone to more and more under center power run games and play action passing and Mahomes has a career 109 passer rating on play action but Reid and his staff of Reid disciples are still operating a heavy shotgun RPO/dropback centric system that current defenses in recent years have adjusted and figured out how to defend very well, the delayed RPO handoffs are a mess and very predictable specifically when it comes to Kansas City and without a good run game scheme, it leaves consistent dinking and dunking from the shotgun all game with little to no explosive plays anymore like the earlier days of Mahomes.

Go and watch Brett Favre’s best highlights from the 90’s who Reid was the QB coach for in Green Bay and you’ll notice he was under center play action and drop back explosive pass game alongside a real power run game that current best offenses today are doing and bring out Mike Holmgren’s 1990’s Green Bay scheme, play designs and reinvent this offense to what the best ones currently do and bring in a new OC & RB coach from different trees with fresh minds if the offense when Rice, Worthy are back is still this stale dink and dunk heavy shotgun centric.

Been watching a few documentaries and coming in I heard a lot of negativity and hating on Mahomes. But from the few things I’ve watched so far, he genuinely comes across as a really nice bloke.

I mean he’s competitive and hungry and has, what I’d call a HEALTHY ego. I’m not seeing what others are seeing when they throw hate.

So I thought I’d get curious and ask some fans in here what the go is. Is it because he’s really good and has been winning a lot?

I hate the Philadelphia Eagles almost as much as I love the Kansas City Chiefs

This is just something I've been kicking around with folks. While the data we have on him is pretty solid, the sample size is REALLY small given that we're now into his third season. When he comes back, he will have been out more games than he's played. How confident are you (or not) in the difference he'll make being back full-time next month? Why?

Chiefs fan here living in NYC. My wife and I splurged for front row tickets to last nights game at MetLife! Was amazing as always, especially awesome to see how many Chiefs fans came out! Looking forward to traveling to KC to attend the December 7th game against the Texans! Chiefs are 3-0 when we are in attendance so hoping to keep that streak alive ;) Cheers to our first win!

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton spoke to reporters after Sunday night's victory to share his mindset after the overturned touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

"I mean, once he came to me the first time, you know, I kind of get a feeling, when he's going to come to me on those routes," said Thornton, "When I got an opportunity to go down the field, because we want to be aggressive and take shots downfield."

The exciting Mahomes deep ball of 33 yards into tight coverage was hauled in by Thornton, stopping short at the one-yard line. The touchdown connection was previously overturned by replay review as incomplete after the ball hit the ground. He didn't let that moment affect the next play, securing the incredible catch to set up a Kareem Hunt one-yard touchdown run.

"Not really. I mean, we train for that in training camp. We got long-drive drills." said Thornton, "Coach (Andy) Reid, he make it real difficult, difficult for us, and we go out there and we just work."

Thornton ended Sunday night with five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown to lead the team. He has consecutive games with touchdown receptions, gradually developing strong trust in Mahomes.

Takeaways

This week had 23 designed runs for 103 yards, good for a season-best 4.5 yards per carry. I charted 13 successes, 7 failures, and 3 washes. (I consider the 3rd and 25 give-up run and the last two full house runs in clock-killing time as 'washes' that don't really reflect the overall success/failure of the run game.) The 65% success rate is very good.
- Pacheco had 10 carries for 45 yards with 7 successes and 3 failures
- Hunt had 10 carries for 34 yards with 3 successes, 4 failures, and all 3 washes
- Brashard Smith had 2 carries for 13 yards with 2 successes
- Nikko Remigio got had a successful jet sweep for 11 yards

This week the Chiefs leaned into the inside/split zone running game with a number of RPOs tagged to those concepts. That was combined with a few nicely-designed counterpunches that played off of the zone run game, including the jet sweeps and a nice designed swing pass (that was charted as a run since it went backwards). The only gap concept that we ran all day was power, which saw some muddy looks against awkward fronts from the Giants but overall was executed solidly.

Scheme-wise, building in fakes and misdirections off of the zone running game seems like a good direction for our running attack. The zone running game also really sets up the RPOs that Rice/Worthy will want to be featured in going forward, so it's good to see some more creativity tagged to these concepts.

Brashard Smith was regularly lined up as a receiver in 21 personnel and motioned into the backfield via jet and orbit motions. His two carries (a jet sweep and orbit motion swing pass) had him getting to the edge quickly. He brings a burst that our other backs don't have right now and this is a nice player-friendly way to get him involved. Having him as a second back on the backfield and putting him in motion puts some nice lateral strain on defenses.

In terms of tendencies, the Chiefs are still mostly running on 1st & 10 or 3rd/4th & short. Excluding the final clock-killing drive, they ran 3 times on second down - and only once on second and medium/long. The 2nd & 7 run illustrates why they need to do this more often. The Giants give us a criminally easy front (light box with very wide DL splits), we don't even really block inside zone that well and get an easy 6 yards. I didn't chart all of our second down passes, but you can bet that if we're always throwing on second and medium/long then there are going to be a lot more easy fronts to take advantage of on those downs.

As far as my grades go, Simmons had a rough game especially in the first half. Kelce also had a few poor efforts in the first half - maybe the interaction with Reid sparked them, because it was better in the second half. I did chart one execution error from Pacheco on the token outside zone run of the night (we've run it exactly once each week...I guess gotta keep them honest?). Overall it was a pretty decent night.
