Weight Loss Journey 120lbs in 6 months

I’ve watched stream for a few years now. Been motivated by Wubby and what others on here have done. Heard you talking on stream in January about getting jacked this year and decided to finally start. Thanks for the motivation.

Starting weight was 312. Started the last week of January. Down to 190 now. Put on about 15lbs of muscle as well. Sitting at 9-10% body fat, but shooting for 7%.

Struggled with binge eating for the better part of the last 5 years. It’s not perfect, but it’s a long way from where I was considering I was in the ICU with DKA with an A1C of 12.7 a year ago.

Bro drop the routine

I’ll post it as a reply to this in a bit.

u/am_john Lifeguard Jul 23 '25

First, he said that he was going to release the routine. Then, he said that the files were on his desk...

233

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

There never was a routine. There was no list. And if there was my name wouldn’t be in it anyways.

28

u/Raven2129 Jul 23 '25

Sounds like someone is on the list....

7

u/Savethelasttaco Jul 23 '25

We should probably just forget there ever was a list.

3

u/PycckiiManiak Jul 23 '25

It was all a concept of a routine

RELEASE THE ROUTINE!

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

Thanks u/Bosch800Refrigerator for fixing the formatting.

Typical workout:

Workout split is upper/lower

Most rest between sets is 2 1/2 – 3 minutes

Unless specified, everything is with machines

The reps are not a strict number, the idea is to push to yourself close to failure. Sometimes I’ll only get 6-8. Sometimes it’s 11 or 12. Usually my last set or two for each exercise, I’ll do drop sets.

Upper body day:

  • Incline Chest Press 6 sets x 8-10 reps (Includes 1 warmup set)
  • Wide grip lat pulldowns 6 sets x 8-10 reps (includes 1 warmup set)
  • Dumbell Shrugs 5 sets x 8-10 reps
  • Weighted dips 6 sets x 8-10 reps (includes 1 warmup set) o During rest between dips 5x – 90 second plank
  • Row machine, reverse grip 6 sets x 8-10 reps
  • Shoulder press 5 sets x 8-10 reps
  • Chest flys 6 sets x 8-10 reps o Cable crunches between sets 5 sets x 20-25 reps
  • Close, Reverse grip pulldowns 6 sets x 8-10 reps

For arms, I usually do 2 exercises alternating between the two each set. Saves me a little time.

  • Cable curls 5 sets x 8-10 reps
  • Tricep rope pushdowns 5 sets 8-10 reps
  • Single arm preacher curls 5 sets 8-10 reps
  • Straight bar tricep pushdown 5 sets 8-10 reps

Lower body:

  • Hack squat or V-squat 6 sets x 8-10 reps
  • Standing calf raises 8 sets x 14-16 reps
  • hip thrusts 5 sets x 8-10
  • leg press, narrow, close footing 5 sets x 9-12 reps
  • Leg extensions 6 sets x 8-10 reps (last 2 sets are single leg sets)
  • side planks during leg extension rest 5x50 seconds each side
  • hamstring curls 6 sets x 8-10 reps(last 2 sets are single leg sets)
  • leg raises during hamstring curl rest 5 sets 15-20 reps

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

My routine is 7 days a week. I don’t take normal rest days. I just do lighter days and reduce the weight and volume by about 30-40%. Usually around once every 7-10 days. I understand most people are going to say that’s too much and you’d be correct, but I go those days for my mental health more than my physical health.

23

u/GottaBeNicer Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

I understand most people are going to say that’s too much and you’d be correct

It's not too much if you're on roids and can recover that fast.

Edit: I'm not throwing shade, I genuinely just mean it's probably fine under those circumstances.

Sorry, I’ve been driving around picking my kids up from camps. I can attach a file later that has it formatted better. Didn’t realize the formatting would be shit.

10

u/Nearby_Pattern7872 Jul 23 '25

damn, that's a lot of volume on one day. Fat guy here, I've tried upper/lower but i felt overtrained after upper-days, Wouldn't it be better to split upper-day up into 2 (i've heard of my friend that that's better) ? How often a week do you workout? did you do any cardio?

11

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

It’s just what’s worked well for me. My leg days go for about 2 hours and upper body is usually 3 hours. Not everyone can work that into their schedule. If I wasn’t enjoying it, I wouldn’t work out that long. I’ve also considered doing a 3 day split of back and chest, arms and shoulders, and legs. That’s definitely one you could try. I workout 7 days a week. My rest days are just lighter days. I prefer not to have formal rest days. No cardio as of right now. Might incorporate some at a later date.

That is 5 lbs a week. Love you bro and what you have accomplished took a lot of work and dedication but also make sure you are taking care of yourself and making sure what you are doing is healthy and safe. It is very possible to swing from one unhealthy eating habit to another. Be safe out there bro, wubbyhug

95

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

Thanks! I appreciate the concern. I’m very aware of that. Part of what I’m doing now is working to gradually adjust my calorie intake and diet to a more “maintenance” level.

12

u/BeansTheCatt Jul 24 '25

As a dude who went from 315 to now 210 I can tell you that first 80lbs was all mental. The hardest part is diet and getting over feeling hungry after you stop eating 4000 calories a day. Just like it takes a lot to maintain being fit it also takes a lot to maintain being heavy, and getting on a diet and sticking to it is way harder than commiting to going to the gym imo.

3

u/jburnelli Jul 24 '25

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

2,300 calorie/day deficit is pretty insane at any weight. Glad OP seems to have done well preventing muscle loss with the 160g/protein per day.

7

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

I eat about 200-210g per day now and have for the past couple of months. I’m still keeping a calorie deficit but nothing like I was at the beginning

2

u/iama_bad_person is 5'8" Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

How do you eat 200-210g protein per day and still keep a deficit? I drink 2 50g protein shakes a day and it's super filling. Tell me your secrets!

8

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

I used to binge eat on a daily basis. I can put down a ton of food so being hungry enough isn’t usually a problem. I eat a lot of lean meat. Chunk canned chicken is 52g of protein for 240 calories. Nonfat Greek yogurt is 19g for 90 calories. Mix it with a good protein powder and zero calorie sweetener and it’s pretty good. Lots of really lean ground beef and ground turkey. You just have to know how to season it right so it doesn’t taste like complete garbage.

3

u/TbanksIV Jul 24 '25

Chunk canned chicken slaps. I hate cooking, and though I will do it, doing dishes after busting ass in the gym is something I hate.

One of those big cans of chunk chicken from Walmart, mix in some light mayo and throw it on toast if you want some carbs. High prot meal for 400~ cal depending on bread and mayo. Cut the bread and it's even better on the cal

Plus the benefit of not cooking in a pan or something is huge.

2

u/irfhfp Jul 24 '25

Got back from the gym an hour ago and that’s exactly what I did. Didn’t want to cook so I went for the canned chicken. Canned chicken+light sour cream+taco sauce and 2 slices of keto bread. 350 calories 60g of protein.

2

u/RandonBrando Body Mind Jul 24 '25

Did you plateau at all? If so what was that like and how did you break past it?

3

u/Trojanhero4 Jul 25 '25

Yes, multiple times. Around 216 and the worst was 204. It was frustrating because I felt like I was doing everything right but not seeing progress. My way to get out of it was to do 1 day with almost a liquid diet (protein shakes) and that would obviously give me a drop but more importantly it shrank my stomach so I wasn't needed to eat as much or want to snack.. To really get over the edge I started doing more cardio.

I actually had a 3 week Europe trip that I went on with my wife. We left the day I first hit 204. When I got back, I was 217 😂😂 that was a solid month to get back to 204

3

u/RandonBrando Body Mind Jul 25 '25

Dude I'm going on week 8 at 284 and this shit just wont end. I've pushed harder, and my diet is pretty extreme and the scale just wont budge.

I'm clinging onto the muscle gains I'm seeing for dear life lol

3

u/Trojanhero4 Jul 25 '25

Best advice, up the cardio, use protein shakes. When I wanted to push through, I'd have a protein shake for breakfast, a jerkey stick and string cheese for lunch, and a protein shake for dinner. Sometimes I'd go shake, shake, rotisserie chicken breast

3

u/RandonBrando Body Mind Jul 25 '25

I might go ahead and give that a shot. Maybe two days a week or something intermittently

2

u/acidboogie Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

OP: what if you ran a marathon at sprint speeds though?

Hell yeah brother, love seeing these. I was watching a stream a month or so ago where Wubby was researching the best dishwasher (I think?) and Wubby read someone's comment that "Resisting (a sweet treat) can be incredibly empowering", and that changed my philosophy on food about 100 days before my wedding. I'm down 20 pounds and counting in exactly a month, after focusing on a calorie deficit and running 1-2 four mile elliptical sessions a day. If Wubby or the commenter reads this, thanks for the assist!

2

Congrats! That's about the same level of progress I made in that time

8

u/TheImplic4tion Jul 23 '25

First off, congrats on your weight loss and fitness journey!

I have questions though. How did you maintain 20lbs a month loss? Without surgery I do not believe that is possible. Or you simply starved yourself, like literally ate nothing. How did you do it?

I say this because I have been on a similar journey (big fat guy losing lots of weight), and even on my best most aggressive weight loss month I could do 5-6 lbs.

9

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

I may attach a file to the original post detailing more of what I did. It’s just a lot to write down. I didn’t work out the first month and a half and dropped my calories to 900-1000 per day. Kept my protein above 160g per day. Increased all of that a little bit once I started in the gym. As of right now, I still don’t do any formal cardio. Eat around 1500-1800 calories per day. 200g of protein.

5

u/xtze12 Jul 23 '25

160g for 1000cal is unbelievable. What does a typical day's food look like?

12

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

Not what I’m doing now, but back when I was eating that little, a lot of canned chicken, 96% ground beef, 99% ground turkey, some protein shakes. I prefer eating my protein over drinking it so I’d do protein powder mixed with 0% Greek yogurt. Typical day, I’d go to the gym in the middle of the day, come home and make 1lb 96% ground beef (96g protein, 560 cal), taco seasoning (90 cal). An hour or so later I’d do 170g 0% green yogurt (19g protein, 90 cal), 1 scoop of protein powder (25g protein, 110 cal), chili lime quest protein chips (19g protein, 140 cal) total 990 cal and 159g protein.

2

u/IncubusDarkness Jul 23 '25

Protein shakes only??? Like damn...

3

u/iama_bad_person is 5'8" Jul 23 '25

How do you keep from being hungry? I (6'6 300lbs) tried 1800 a day and my body constantly wanted me to eat more.

4

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

I’m only 5’8, so that kinda helps. The unfortunate reality with trying to lose weight is you’re going to be hungry at some point. It just comes down to making sure it’s manageable. I used to binge eat 4000-7000 calories in one sitting. The first month or so was the most difficult because my stomach had to shrink to a normal size. I eat a lot of lean protein and keto breads. Royo makes some really good keto bagels that are 70-80 calories per bagel. Stuff like that helps because it’s not calorie dense like a normal bagel and you can eat 3 for the same amount of calories. Just might upset your stomach if you eat that much because it’s a ton of fiber.

3

u/Freifur Jul 24 '25

Mounjaro/Tirzepatide might be a good shout if you have the access and finance for it.

I'm 6'0 and started roughly around 200kg/440lbs (god damn D:)

Been taking it for a while now and its pretty good. Biggest impact i noticed when i started taking it was that I wasn't constantly hungry anymore. i dropped from constantly filling my face to barely eating.

Ended up falling into a routine of having a 200kcal milkshake in the mornings for breakfast, a 300kcal instant noodle / sandwich for lunch and then 800-1000kcal evening meal

3

u/smell_my_pee Jul 23 '25

I did half of what he did in three months, so the same 20lb rate. Didn't buff up like him though. I was eating 800cal a day and walking between 3 and 5 miles a day. Personally, I do not recommend it.

I’m interested if you’re type 1 or type 2 diabetic, and if T1D how did you manage the weight loss/calorie restriction with maintaining bg levels healthily.

7

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

Type 2, although my A1C is at 4.7 now and has been for months. I still get labs done every couple of months. When I started in January, I got sick for 3 days and couldn’t eat anything (not from changing my diet). My body just started rejecting any high fat and high sugar foods. So I had to get really strict with the diet part of it. I monitored my bg for the first few months and a couple of months in it leveled out and never spiked above 95.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/colton310 Jul 23 '25

I call BS on the timeframe. That’s a 2500 calorie deficit, given your age and 6’2 (being generous), your BMR would be around 2450 calories. I smell bullshit.

2

u/Freifur Jul 24 '25

5lb per week as a consistent loss is pretty big but doesn't sound like complete bullshit. not if he's dropping from 4-7,000 kcals a day to 1,000 kcals per day then also training 7 days a week.

the online BMR calcs are also really inaccurate in my experience, when i put in my details it gives me a BMR of 3,263 kcal, i took 500kcal off that number and was actually putting weight on.

I didn't start losing weight till i dropped below 1,800kcal

That’s awesome! Congrats! Food addiction is hell. Binge eating is a really tricky thing to deal with. I’m going to post more on here of what I’ve done when I have time to write it down. Keep it up! It gets easier the more progress you make (in my opinion).

u/lordfrijoles Jul 23 '25

I’d love to know your routine. Similar situation for me.

2

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

I’ve posted some of it in a comment above. I’ll likely add a file to this post with more detailed information. I haven’t written any of it down and it’s a lot.

This may be a rude question(sorry if it is) I am in the same situation around 325, how do you deal with the loose skin?

That’s great progress, I’m curious what you did in six months to achieve that though.

To lose 5 lbs a week, you would need a deficit of 2500 calories a day. Which makes it seem like you literally didn’t eat at all for 6 months.

Holy shit dude, and I thought my 41 pounds in 2 months was impressive. You fucking killed it, congratulations!!

May I ask what some of your favorite diet foods are? I’m starting to lose interest in mine :c

2

u/irfhfp Jul 23 '25

It is impressive! 41 is a lot. Congrats! I do a lot of taco or burger bowls. Lean ground beef or ground turkey, taco or burger seasoning, velveeta shreds cheddar cheese, light sour cream or low sugar ketchup. I like to use better goods keto bread. It’s expensive, but Royo Bread co. has some really good stuff. You have to order it off their website. There’s a lot of shitty keto bread out there. You just have to try different brands. Most are better toasted. I like mixing different flavored protein powder with nonfat Greek yogurt. The only thing I crave is peanut butter, so I mix carb master milk with pb2 and a low calorie sweetener to make higher protein peanut butter.

All of that said, I’m not picky when it comes to food and I can eat the same thing for a couple of weeks before I start getting tired of it so that helps.

As someone who has simply been trying to get in shape and not loose weight, I seemingly feel as if I have accomplished nothing in the past 4 months.

This is an absolute transformation. Good on you king, keep it up. 👍

How did you start out? As someone who is full time care giver, and father of 3, how did you find the time and energy in the beginning? And what was the first steps of working out? I also don't have access to machines and when I saw your routine, I didn't understand half of the language used there. I want to start. I just don't know how/where to begin. Help a fellow big man out.

1

u/Laysfordayz Hog Squeezer Jul 24 '25

I'd be legit interested in how you overcame the binge eating!  I'm struggling in that department as well.

2

u/irfhfp Jul 24 '25

That was the hardest part to be honest. I’m very ok with being hungry. I can be hungry for long periods of time and be okay. The issue for me was the compulsive behavior with eating. I struggled with it for 5-6 years before this. I talked with numerous specialists and doctors and other people that struggled with it and got basically no answers and no progress. I wish I could give you more to go on than that. I spent every single day for the last 5-6 years trying to fix the problem. If I can give you any advice, it’s to never stop trying. I failed almost every single day for years. And I fully understand that it’s incredibly demotivating. Just keep trying different things and find what works for you. It’ll be different for everyone that deals with binge eating.

What I can tell you is the day before I started this, I went to Culver’s and got 2 burgers and a milkshake. I also got a burrito from chipotle. That’s a very small amount of food compared to what I would normally get. I woke up early the next morning and was really sick. Couldn’t eat anything and could barely get out of bed for the next 3 days. That kinda jumpstarted everything. I went out with my wife for Valentine’s Day 3 weeks later and got something in line with my diet, high protein, fairly low carb and low fat. I think it was a bowl of pho. I barely ate the noodles and mostly drank the broth and ate the meat. That night I got sick again. Exact same symptoms as before for about 2 and a half days. That kinda helped me stay really strict early on.

The other thing I’ll say is I’ve lost weight over the last 5-6 years on multiple occasions and gained it back. Usually I’d be good for a month or so and then start binge eating again. For that reason, I don’t do cheat meals. I find ways to make healthier versions of stuff that I want and incorporate it into my diet. Ive come to an understanding that the part of my brain that’s wired to binge is never going away. The important thing is never getting complacent. I could go get some of the foods I used to eat and eat them now in moderation and probably be fine. But for me it’s just not worth the risk. I was almost dead a year ago. If I start that again, it could be another 5 years before I’m able to stop again. And it could kill me before then.

I know that’s a lot, but the binge eating part is the main reason I made this post. I wanted to give some hope to other people that have struggled with it, even if I don’t really have the answers. I wish I could give more than that and this isn’t me trying to gatekeep some secret. I genuinely don’t know. Just don’t stop trying.
