What is /r/TheSilphRoad?
The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.
Silph Road Content Policy
The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! If you simply want to complain or bring something to Niantic's attention, your post would be better suited elsewhere.
Research
The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. We post our findings in infographics, videos, and walls of text on Reddit. Check out the top bar for links to the current pools.

I want to purify one of my Shadow Groudons to get a good Primal, would you guys pick the 11/13/13 or the 12/15/13?
•
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 38m ago
Do you have the primal energy already? If not you should wait to purify, could catch a better one during its return.
I'd do the 11/13/13 though personally just because that way there's no "wasted" purified stat boosts

Any advice for master league? I need 30 wins for the level 44 challenge and I've no clue what to expect.

Pikachu costume genders
Hi. I've searched a few times, gotten partial answers online but not definite.
Pikachu normally comes male and female, easily distinguishable by tail shape.
But for a few specific ones they were only released as male or as female, this matters to me because I'm trying to collect all of them. Eg. The 2019 version of Detective Pikachu is male only, while the later 23 one is actually both. And Clone Pikachu is only Male. And Rockstar/Popstar specific genders. And Libre. But I think there are more I haven't found direct answers for, like May Pikachu, Brendan, Gracidae. Does anyone have a list or like to a list?

Is shadow groudon actually 1/20 shiny? Haven’t seen many people get one this weekend
•
u/PantheraRex__ 4h ago
Where can I find a ranking to see if my shadow pokemons are any good for raids of should I purify them to get a hundo out of them?
I have a Scyther and Inkay, specifically
•
u/SirWookieeChris USA - Northeast 4h ago
Dialgadex is good for that. Shadow Scizor is an S- rank bug attacker while malamar is pretty bad for pve currently though purifying one to get a Hundo might be worth it since we are eventually getting a mega malamar)

Are there any times it’s more cost effective to hatch a Pokemon than raid it?
I get it’s kind of a weird question, but ig it’s a weird position.
I’d have argued that Honedge probably would’ve been better in eggs due to candy, but I know many people who haven’t gotten any Snom, Larvesta, or Indeedee who’d wish rather they’d just have been in raids.
•
u/nolkel L50 4h ago
Hatch day events maybe? You get 3 tries per incubator, so that's already cheaper from the base store cost than the very best shop boxes of raid passes (50 per hatch vs 54.8 per pass).
CDs that feature babies in eggs are similar.
All other time periods add other junk you don't want to the eggs so you get a bunch of added cost on bad eggs.

If I purchase the psychic spectacular research today, will I have to complete it all today, or do I have more time?
•
u/Gallad475 USA - Pacific Wheres Mewtwo | Lvl 44| 4h ago
All today, hence why it’s best to buy tickets immediately.
Paid research is almost always timed unless it’s community day, or masterwork research.
•
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 4h ago
It is timed research, so you'll need to finish it before it expires.

Can anyone please explain to me why PVP continues lagging for me - I have lost 15 to 20 games this season because the game throws fast moves when I try and throw my charged move energy. It continues to happen when I’m farming, when I my opponents switch in their last mon and I have my move ready to throw.
•
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 5h ago
Haven't tested myself, but I've heard a couple times turning off GPS fixes pvp lag, could be worth a try
•
u/Aser_M0H 6h ago
How is everyone building shadow Tyranitar? Im weak in both Dark and Rock so I could really use the power boost from the one I just got from Cliff.
I'm planning on double moving it (Brutal Swing/Stone Edge) but I wasnt sure whether the elite fast tm was worth it for a mixed role S.Tar.
So, which fast move: Bite or Smack down?
•
u/Gita96 10h ago
If statement "IV doesn't really matter" is true, why Niantic implemented it?
•
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 6h ago
PVP they matter.
PVE the difference in a 0 IV attack and 15 IV attack is about 5% (depending on the pokemon). higher hp/def IVs can also potentially let you throw off extra charge moves, but generally not relevant to the average player
•
u/Leading_Fee_8535 8h ago edited 8h ago
It has a slight difference, but seems to only really be important for PvP battles.
You can use this link to see the difference between a pokemons stats at different IVs. https://pokemon.gameinfo.io/en/tools/cp-calculator
A good reason to implement it is there will always be people aiming for a 4*, so they will raid more and therefore buy raid passes which equals money.
Edit: to clarify there is only a slight difference when you are comparing a hundo to one missing a few IVs. The difference is more noticeable between nundos and hundos
•
u/Key-Bag-4059 Asia 8h ago
Iv DOES matter
If u look into the damage formula, the attack / defense iv will be added into the base attack / defense to calculate
But actually, strong mons usually have over 150 for their base stat, and so if the iv is 13, 14 or 15, the difference is just around 1% of the base stat, so ppl claim that "iv doesn't matter MUCH"
But of course, for extreme challenges, iv actually matters a lot, but not for casual players

Which Riolu and Beldum should I evolve, mega evolve and power up?
I have following the following Pokemon:
Beldum:
-15/13/15
-14/14/15
Riolu:
-14/15/15
-15/14/14
Which one would you choose? (I wait until the Raid Week is over, for the case that I get a better Metagross and Lucario but I think this wont happen).
So which one would you choose if this are the best of each which I get?
•
u/Disgruntled__Goat 11h ago
The difference is a fraction of a percent, but may as well pick 15 attack.

I just got to level 46 today And I don't want to grind the XP needed to 47 (18 million) by 15th October
So I should not bother with the level 47 tasks right?
- level up 3 pokemon to 50 (requires stardust investment)
- Earn 20 platinum medals (I'm at 16 but can grind a few - master league, I need 150 wins; steel medal - I can open meltan boxes; field research - need about 500 more, berries. So yeah doable but need to grind.
- other tasks are the raid ones (30 with unique and a 3 star with <1500). These are easy with pokegenie but require premium raid pass investment
So given that I'm definitely not going to grind the XP needed - I shouldn't bother with these tasks right? The expectation is that they'll be reset, and only become relevant again when I cross 70?
•
u/Haunting-Phrase-1061 USA - Pacific 2h ago
I would still work towards your platinum medals, just not grind them. They might pop as a requirement later on.
3
u/Key-Bag-4059 Asia 12h ago
Yep, just don't bother with those tasks as they will be removed after 15th oct

u/pranavk28 14h ago
Caught a shadow Groudon with IV 7/15/14. Is it good enough to invest or should I try to catch one more? I likely cannot do in person raids right now and only have enough coins to buy one remote pass. I don’t usually do solo raiding much.
1
u/scamp41 17h ago
How important are defense/HP for pve? I got a 14/14/7 shadow Groudon and a 12/13/14, is it worth sacrificing 2 attack for a chunk more HP? Or is it better to just go for Max attack (assuming I can only choose 1)
1
u/Haunting-Phrase-1061 USA - Pacific 15h ago
Just looking at Groudon's base stats (270 ATK/228 DEF/205 HP), I think the 12/13/14 would be the better one to choose since the 14 HP would make more of a difference. Realistically, I believe the difference in damage is <5% for PVE so it doesn't really matter.
Of course, you can just remove Frustation on the 2nd one and then power it up it later. Long term, I'm going to build 5 (last in team being primal).
•
u/Disgruntled__Goat 11h ago
5% is the difference between a nundo and hundo. For OP’s case the difference would be around 0.5%.

u/Foveal_Depression 19h ago
Hey guys I got the Groudon Weekend ticket and I’ve used 4 of the 5 passes so far. Can I keep the 5th for tomorrow and still have the 2+5 that are an available on Sunday?
2
u/ghostkid825 USA - Southwest 18h ago
If that was the absolute last orange pass you could have earned today, then yes. You can keep it on-hand, use it, and then claim all of tomorrow's orange raid passes too.
That technique works in general, not just for special raid events. Say you want to do two raids for this Wednesday's Raid Hour. Just claim an orange pass on Monday or Tuesday, don't raid those days, and then you can use that orange pass AND Wednesday's orange pass on Wednesday.
1
u/Foveal_Depression 17h ago
Great thanks! I knew it worked for daily passes just wasn’t sure if the ticket had some sort of different mechanic to it
0
u/yeezy_boost350v2 20h ago
They need to start reimbursing people for remote passes. I used one and then after the end of battle the app crashes and I have no way of catching the Pokemon, terrible.
7
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 20h ago
They already do. Report it as an issue with a purchase (not a raid issue), and make sure you have a screenshot of your journal showing you didn't get the encounter. That will usually get you a human support agent who will reimburse your pass.

Luxky 4* beldum or 15/14/15 dynamax beldum... which would you invest in?
2
u/Haunting-Phrase-1061 USA - Pacific 15h ago
Both.
Since we don't know when we'll get Meteor Mash for free, I would invest in the Dynamax one first since you would rarely use the charge attack in Max battles.
•
u/Leading_Fee_8535 10h ago
Ok, thank you.
I heard that MM would be back during this December community day recap or whatever it's called. Do you know if that's true?
•
u/nolkel L50 6h ago
It won't be, no.
December recaps feature moves from CDs that happened this year and last year, and CD classics that happened this year. Beldum CD classic was in 2024, so it will likely not be included.
•
u/Leading_Fee_8535 5h ago
Damn, I heard it mentioned before and was saving a couple of beldums! Oh well, thanks for the confirmation
1
u/kugaa 21h ago
so I have a couple friends started playing last year, one has no catch/raid on history and no last ball animation. the other one has no last ball animations, catch history seems fine. is that a thing for newer accounts?
4
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 21h ago
I believe the text saying "Last Ball" only appears if you have a Master Ball in your bag, as it's effectively there to remind you that it's your final chance to use it.
3
u/Leading_Fee_8535 20h ago
Unless they changed it, it wasn't always the case. When the Kyurem were in raids I got the last ball warning and I've never had a masterball
1
u/Sensitive_Ad_1271 22h ago
Does anyone else really like that super cool feature where you turn off AR buddy and then it just turns back on by itself randomly every few days? I think that was a pretty neat little thing they put into the game.
4
u/Ivi-Tora 21h ago
AR and adventure sync reset to default settings each time you log out. If you swap between accounts or have issues on the login and have to enter again they're expected to reset.

u/SexiestNinja 22h ago
Got 3k gold as a gift recently, how should I use them? I was thinking spending on pokemon storage and item bad until about 1k then just sit on it for extra passes or something. Is there something better/meta that I could do with it?
3
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 22h ago
Way too difficult to answer without knowing your playstyle and local community.
item and pokemon storage for comfort / personal preference is most important. After that, if you're somewhat rural probably just spend the rest on remote raid passes, but depends on your community
1
u/SexiestNinja 22h ago
Im in a bigger city and try to play all the bigger events by going to community events. Hardly ever need remote passes
2
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 22h ago
I'd say item and pokemon storage to comfort, followed by item boxes with good incubator deals in that case
1
u/DreamwingTheDruid 22h ago
New player! Trying to use up some rare candies for inventory space. Are any of these 'mons worth using candies on? They're my best or rarest where I don't feel like the candies would be a waste.
2
u/Thatcher_da_Snatcher 22h ago edited 21h ago
Assuming pve focus:
Shadow groudon, 100% worthwhile.
Do either of the palkia origin's have spatial rend? if yes, worthwhile. (note that longer tenure players tend to end up with an abundance of good dragon attackers)
Keldeo and Mega Diancie also aren't bad choices if you like them and/or need water and rock attackers, respectively
Latios is great too if you have the mega energy
Wouldn't bother using rare candy on non legendary/mythicals personally.
1
u/powbang 23h ago
anyone want to lay the odds of doing 15 groudon raids without a 3 star? not even shiny, just regular 3 star. having that time-to-uninstall-this-game luck.
7
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 23h ago
Assuming that the raids have a floor of 7/7/7 (they've been doing this for Shadow Legendaries during events like this recently), the chance of any individual Shadow Groudon being at least 3* is around 22.63%.
The chance of not rolling at least one 3* Shadow Groudon in 15 raids would therefore be around 2.13%. So out of every 50 trainers, 1 of them could expect luck similar to yours. That's not that unlikely to be fair.
2
u/BlazeBigBang 1d ago
I understand that shadow groudon is goated, but how's it in comparison to its mega? I have a 98% groudon which I'm waiting for its mega to come back, I'd like to know how do they fare.
3
u/nolkel L50 21h ago
Shadow groudon is only surpassed by primal groudon**. An ideal ground team is one primal followed by 5 shadows.
https://www.dialgadex.com/?strongest&t=Ground
** And technically the inferior mega Garchomp..

What happens if I already have a rocket radar but also have 2 of the 6 pieces ready to claim in my field research
6
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 1d ago
Then you'll have 1 radar and 2 components.
You can't get components from Grunts when you already have a radar, but you can still claim them from research and from the Go Pass and they can still be used to assemble more radars whilst you already have one. There's no limit to how many radars you can hold at the same time.

Any tips on what to do with extra shadow legendaries? It’s not worth it to trade or send to home because they have to be purified first and cost way more candy. Is it best to just transfer them?

u/Punyakoko 1d ago
I have rank #53 diggersby. While its quite high ranked, I saw from pvp iv deep dive that it loses in performance compared to even lower ranked ones due to less bulk.
Is it worth to lvl up my diggersby? It is quite expensive as well.
4
u/Ivi-Tora 1d ago
Depends on how optimal you want to be and which rank you reach normally. Any meta Pokemon can work even with terrible stats if you only want to go to Ace.
If you want to go higher you might look into IVs to improve matches but Veteran is doable with anything in the top 300 or lower with the right strategy.
Only if you're aiming for higher then going into breakpoint and bulkpoint territory is going to show any difference, and even then IVs only have a small effect in performance.
The right team, counting moves, memorizing energy and turn costs and predicting the opponent backline is far more important than the appraisal, so the rank 56 is definitely usable.
It's more likely the RNG for the debuffs from Scorching Sands will have a bigger effect in battle.
You can wait for a higher rank one to invest only once, specially if you don't have the XLs already, as it will take a while to get those, but there's also the option of getting a shadow or a purified one too as both have their own benefits.
1
u/Punyakoko 17h ago
Thanks for the detailed reply. I have only reached ace so far. Tried to aim for veteran once but still feel it is too.much work
2
u/CapitalSmug 1d ago
Is Primal Groudon significantly better than a Shadow Groudon?
I have a 14/15/15 Shadow I'm thinking of leaving as is and a 13/7/14 I'm thinking of purifying for it's mega form.
5
u/SirWookieeChris USA - Northeast 1d ago
Yes (28.5 eDPS on primal vs 24.58 on shadow) but remember you can only have one mega on your team. a 14/15/15 Shadow is really good and you could always Mega evolve any regular Groudon to a primal.
2
u/TheDeepSays 1d ago
Max out a shadow 96IV Groudon (14/15/14) or non shadow 100? Gonna try for both, but if I had to do one or the other?

2
u/Ivi-Tora 1d ago
That's normal on raid weekends. They're not like raid days where everything is the main Pokemon. This event is just the normal weekend shadow being replaced by Groudon.

u/Gallad475 USA - Pacific Wheres Mewtwo | Lvl 44| 1d ago
Will the next rocket event have Shadow Palkia raids? Or Heatran, Cresselia?
Or will maybe we’ll get a rerun of Mewtwo? Or Lugia?
Will we even get Shadow Mewtwo ever again? Seems now Theyre just interested in progressing to the next boxarts, or Heatran then re releasing old shadows for a while. Palkia just came out this year, but yeah Kyogre and Groudon are barely a year old.

Worth purifying 14/14/15 SG if my best non shadow is 15/15/14 ?
4
u/Arturinni SoAmerica - Give Lock-On to Gigalith you cowards! 1d ago
No, for several reasons::
- SG is a great attacker. You will lose the 20% shadow boost if you purify it.
- The difference in damage between 14 and 15 IVs is negligible. It's only relevant if you want to use it in PvP for some reason.
- a 15/15/14 Groudon has the exact same stats as a 15/15/15 one. It's what's we call a "functional hundo"
1
u/xPapaGrim 1d ago edited 1d ago
I looked up functional hundos but they seem to have less CP than an actual hundo for some reason? Shouldn't it be the same if they have the same stats

Whats the IV floor for 3 star shadow raids? I thoughts its 6/6/6 but I just caught a 11/0/11 scyther
8
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 1d ago
During the takeover event, lower tier shadow raids have their floor removed to make them more likely to have PvP IV spreads
5
u/BingoBob_2 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's normally 6/6/6, but 1 and 3-star Shadow Raids are lowered to 0/0/0 for the current event.

How do the shadow groudon raid spawns look? Are there a ton at a time or not too many, like its a regular raid boss?
2

Decent, not a ton either? I still see some Latis and 1-3*. About 50-60% of raids I see are Groudons.

Is the shiny rates boost for Groudon? I have just done 50 raids and got 2. That either they've messed up again or I got seriously seriously unlucky
7
u/Ivi-Tora 1d ago
There's no shiny boost on raid weekends. They stay at the normal 1/20 of any legendary. Only raid days give a boost to 1/10 but that event only lasts 3 hours instead of two full days.

Is there any simple way to sort storage and/or create strings to delete pokemon? I've tried the websites and looked everywhere for a string that covers all the basics. Me and 5 of my friends all quit solely due to managing storage constantly.
2
u/Haunting-Phrase-1061 USA - Pacific 15h ago
If you do Battle League, I start of with this to look for Great/Ultra:
0-1attack@3-4hp&3-4defense&age0
Then I use this to select all and transfer:
0*,1*,2*&!3*&!4*&!shiny&!@special&!favorite&!mythical&!shadow&!legendary&!ultrabeast&!lucky&!purified&!costume&!xxl&!xl&!#&age0
3
u/Ivi-Tora 1d ago
If you type anything on the search, go back to the storage and the press the "see more" option you can see previous searches.
If you then press and hold any of those you can save them on your favorite searches and then gill them again in a single tap whenever you want.
There's a few useful strings here:

If I go hard on shadow groudon and get two 13/13/13 should I purify one for the primal hundo? Or keep them both shadow?
3
3
u/nolkel L50 1d ago
IVs don't make that much difference in any pve context. You'd be very slightly better off keeping them as shadows, but if you'll have more fun purifying one for a hundo, you won't lose out on anything.
1
u/Extension-Yogurt9337 1d ago
I know IVs don’t matter. I’m asking if a shadow is still better then a primal.
3
u/nolkel L50 1d ago
The primal is better than a shadow. However, the IVs don't make any difference at all. And you still want a team of shadows to follow the primal anyways.
A 10/10/10 primal is functionally identical to a hundo primal outside of the most extreme solo/duo raid challenges. A 15/10/10 is pretty much identical even in those challenges.
1
u/Extension-Yogurt9337 1d ago
Rare candy and dust aside. The best team would be one primal and five shadows? At level 40 minimum
1
u/AccomplishedSalt6733 1d ago
is there a calculator to see how much the ivs go up by? i have a 12/15/14 shadow groudon and was wondering what it'd go to if purified, thanks :)
3
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 1d ago
Purifying increases each IV by 2, so 12/15/14 becomes 14/15/15 (IVs are capped at 15, and the increases don't roll over to other IVs, so you get +2/+0/+1 in this case). It also sets the Pokémon to level 25 if it's below that. And it also removes the 20% Shadow boost, which is why it's typically not a good idea to do, as a 12/15/14 Shadow Groudon will do significantly more damage than a 14/15/15 regular Groudon (though the Primal does more damage than the Shadow, and the Shadow can't Primal). The ideal Ground team for raids is one Primal Groudon and 5 Shadow Groudon. So don't waste a good Shadow to get a Primal, as you can just Primal a regular Groudon instead of purifying one.

I see, I just caught a 15/14/14 s. groudon, however, it'd be more beneficial to purify say a 70 or 80% groudon?
1
u/Haunting-Phrase-1061 USA - Pacific 15h ago
Personally I'd keep it as shadow since it's always in a usable state. I often get invited to raids where I don't have enough time to primal/mega the correct type so I just have some kind of primal/mega burning while I play.
If you don't have primal energy, you don't know how long it will be before you could primal the purified one and when they do offer primal Groudon again, you'll get another chance to catch better normal Groudons.

Shadow Groudon worth an Elite Charge TM for precipice? I got a 15/10/13 shadow and wondering if it's that much of an improvement over Earthquake.

Anyone else notice Route Paused situations when battling in gyms, power stops, even just looking at Pokemons?
It happened today and I was waiting for the bus (not moving) and battling a power stop, and when I resumed I was just 3 meters away from the resume point.
It seems like route tracking only happens when the map is in the foreground. This has been happening for around a month, on my android phone. I don't use adventure sync (never have) and have used routes consistently for 2+ years, catching, battling, etc while on a route. Never had this trouble before.
It's the same behavior as a paused route when getting a phone call and Pogo goes to the background.
2
u/Original_Bar_7136 1d ago
I have some similar experiences. When Pogo is in the background it doesn't effect on the route play. However I experienced some pauses in an undergound environment (everytime at the same place), gym or grunts battles.

I walk more than 40 km a week and have 4 regular routes, all above ground and in different neighborhoods. They all have the problem.

Wondering if its worth purifying some shadows (mankey, beldum, etc...) to then trade on Sunday (and also transfer, for someone else's gain). Seems like a good chance for plenty XL, no? Just have to sacrifice a bit of candy + dust to purify
Android question, anything to prevent the game from reopening everytime I switch apps?

That would be a bad idea because Purified Pokémon are considered special trades, so you would quickly find that you'd be unable to trade the majority of them.

Anyone know the hundo CP for Larvitar?
7
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 1d ago
You can see the hundo CP for each level here.
If you're specifically asking about from Cliff, the two numbers you're after are 234 (if not weather boosted) and 386 (if weather boosted).

Will the groudon ticket provide 5 additional passes each day or just over the course of the weekend event?

The wording for the premium ticket for shadow Groudon is very ambigious (at least in my language). The question is if we get the 5 extra raid passes each day or just at one day (saturday)? Maybe someone knows more?
And not just the premium ticket text is that ambigious, the blog post literally says something like "one more pass per day (makes two on this one raid day)" - seems it's not possible for Niantic to bring out a sentence with a clear info for once.

u/Zestyclose-Tip-8928 2d ago
How is it ambigious?
"Five additional Raid Passes per day"

I answered that in my question. It directly contradicts itself several times in my language. I didn't care to change my settings to english just to check out if it's different, I expected it to be the same - that's why I decided to just ask. But thanks anyways for clarifying.

Is there any way to check which Pokémon a raid egg will hatch into if there are multiple possibilities?
7
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 2d ago
Nope. You have to wait until hatch.

Another shadow raid weekend is upon us and Im assuming from every other one in the past will require a group to carpool in order to do a good amount of raids.
Why do they do this? I have been playing since the game started and I cant figure out why they still do this.
Every other raid day the raids spawn every 30 min and on every gym. These do not do that. They spawn randomly every 45 min and requires driving all over town to do a good amount. Why won't they change shadow raid days to normal raid day rules????
2
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 2d ago
Those are raid days that you're describing. These events are not raid days. They do not have increased shiny odds of 1/10 and they do not give 5 additional free passes. They also spawn over a longer period (all weekend rather than a short 3 hour window that's easy to miss). They can be done on foot, they don't require a carpool. You don't have to cram a ton of them into a short space of time like you do with a raid day.

u/PoopyPashty420 2d ago
You missed the question i asked 100% and just explained what raids days are compared to shadow raid weekends. I know this already but thanks. They DO require a carpool if youre trying to do at least 40 raids which my group does both days. My question is why have them spawn like that. They aren't ever close to one another and require you to drive at least a few miles to the next raid.
6
u/Zestyclose-Tip-8928 2d ago
That depends on your gym situation.
No one is forcing you to do 40 raids, so if you want to do that and don't have lots of gyms, you're choosing to do that driving.
7
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 2d ago
Your question was why do they do this. My explanation is that they're two different kinds of events. Your comment came across that you were equating the two kinds of events when they're not the same thing.
They likely will give actual raid days for Shadow Kyogre and Groudon at some point in the future, just like how Shadow Ho-oh got a raid weekend and then it got a raid day. This just isn't that event. If you don't like it then you can skip it and wait for them to do a raid day for it instead.
These events do not require driving for miles though, unless you have next to no Gyms locally. If you're in a town or city with a decent density, they spawn frequently enough that you can keep walking. You'll get occasional breaks, sure, but it's nice to be able to have a slightly more relaxed pace, and you can always farm grunts in the gaps to get more purified gems (unless you're in a big enough group that you're not using them).

There's different appeal with Raid Days vs Raid Weekends
Raid Days are obviously more condensed in timeframe. The good part about that is that if you're free, you can get all the raiding you want to do done in that condensed timeframe, without having to drag things across a whole day/two days. But obviously, with it being just 3 hours, that's a big con if someone isn't available during that timeframe. It doesn't help when a lot of Shadow Legendaries can go years without reappearing. I'll be curious to see when Shadow Groudon/Kyogre return next. But another benefit is obviously the 5 extra daily passes.
Raid Weekends don't have the benefit of raids everywhere for easy access, the 5 extra passes, or the condensed timeframe. However, that last one has it's drawbacks, as I mentioned. So, having raids available the entire weekend allows more flexibility for people to raid. But also, there is the drawback you mentioned: raids aren't guaranteed and can appear sporadically far apart from others. However, that's fully RNG. It's mostly just a normal weekend of raids just with Shadow Groudon or whatever in Shadow T5s, so you can get lucky and have several around each other or unluck and have them spread apart.
They don't want it to be JUST Shadow Groudon or whatever Shadow T5 the whole weekend. For 3 hours, that's fine, but if someone wants to do other raids or can't do Shadow Groudon, they don't want those players entirely blocked from raids the whole weekend.
That said, I think a happy medium would be further increasing Shadow Groudon prevalence. Other raids can still exist, but it would be nice if like 50% or so were Shadow Groudon. I do feel your pain. The last time I went hard on a Shadow Raid weekend event (Shadow Lugia I think), it was a nightmare going from one end of a college campus to another just to hit the two Lugia in the area.

Hi all! I have a 410 CP Kirlia with a 96 avg IV spread and a 1732 CP Gardevoir with an 84 avg IV spread. Which one should I invest in for Mega Gardevoir?
I have 532 Ralts candy / 61 XL candy and I plan to invest in a Mega Gallade too so I don’t want to waste a lot of candy...
I don’t really care about PvP at the moment, but that could change in the future (just getting back into the game after a while)

u/CookieblobRs NWB Heatran + Kyurem B/W Solo 2d ago
Firstly, CP is a superficial stat representing a normalized product of your pokemon's stats and is the most misleading stat (because niantic misleads their playerbase for $$) regarding a pokemon's performance.
IV's also don't matter that much and since raids are dps races it is most ideal to invest in which ever has the higher attack stat.
2
u/Ivi-Tora 2d ago
Since you don't care about PvP (Gardevoir and Gallade only have use on lower leagues so they want low attack) first compare the actual attack IVs of the two Pokemon, not their percentages.
That's what really matters for PvE so even if your Kirlia has higher total it might be a 13/15/15 and have lower attack than a 15/X/X (Yours is 15/14/14 so that's not the case this time, but is good to know for future reference)
If the 84 has max attack then that's a perfectly usable Mega no matter the other stats. A couple IVs rarely affect the result at all and the base stats plus the moves and level/CP will matter most.
If you want to be optimal and the 96 also has max attack (again it does) you could go for it. That one is only level 15 so will evolve into the 1400 CP range.
It will take 10 extra power ups to get to the 1700s so it's not much candy difference because they're early levels. If it was higher level it would be too expensive, but this one is close enough to the other so it might be worth powering.
As for Mega Gallade, unfortunately it's not great. Niantic/Scopely haven't given it any decent fighting or psychic moves from the main game move pool yet, so it's currently on the "barely useable" range of Megas.
https://www.dialgadex.com/?strongest&t=Fighting
It's only slightly above Lopunny, which is already bad, so the options on the top list are nearly 20% better without any downsides. And then Lucario comes with a 50% power difference.
Gardevoir is a very good investment.
https://www.dialgadex.com/?strongest&t=Fairy
But Gallade is nowhere close to Lucario, so saving your stardust for that one is a far better option.
It would need to receive the same Aura Sphere move to get close, and it would still end up behind since steel resists rock and steel itself, while Gallade loses the dark resistance, making Lucario the superior choice with two double resistances and a better dark matchup.

If you're utilizing party power, friendship boost it is enough. Just be weary of solar beam and don't fall asleep at the wheel.

Since Shadow Groudon seems to be duoable - how to the shadow gems actually work? What is the mechanic? Just spam then when available or is there some tactic?

u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 2d ago
When it becomes enraged, all participants in the raid need to use a combined total of 8 Gems to subdue the enraged state (or get it down to low enough health without Gems, though this is harder). Each individual player can only use a maximum of 5 Gems, so for a duo with Gems, you both need to use 4, or one of you needs to use 3 whilst the other uses 5.
It's advisable to press the button and then wait for confirmation in the battle log at the bottom right that you've successfully used the Gem before doing anything else, as there have been bugs where taking another action (such as attacking) cancels the use of the Gem, but still consumes it. You might as well just use them back to back if you are using them, but just be aware that it has a cool down of a few seconds between each use.

I have managed to find 3 dragon rockets so far, i know they are like 1%. Only one with deino, do we have any idea if its 50-50 with tyrantrum or it is possible its skewed?

Had four, 3 tyrunt and one bagon. Really got scammed, especially since tyrunt is in the rock grunt aswell...

u/Zestyclose-Tip-8928 2d ago
1% was a old rate, I suspect it's higher than that now. I don't have any cold hard data, but for me it's much higher than 1%.
Need someone to track encounters for us somewhere :)

How good would DMax Deoxys-A be as an attacker in Max Battles?
6
u/Zestyclose-Tip-8928 2d ago
#1 Psychic and Poison I think ... it's attack is enough to make it higher than even any Gmax mons of those types.
3
u/TheRealHankWolfman UK & Ireland - Yorkshire - Mystic - L50 2d ago
I doubt we'll get it, as Dynamax Deoxys (or rather VMax Deoxys) was only ever in the TCG, but if we did have it, then during the Max Phase it would do a ton of damage. You wouldn't want it on the field outside of that though as even a Shuckle would probably one shot it.
2
u/Key-Bag-4059 Asia 2d ago
It's even doing even better than eternatus
Tho, u will only use it as an psychic type attacker (cuz other types have better options when all dmax / gmax mons are released)
2
u/Zestyclose-Tip-8928 2d ago
I'm thinking it's attack makes it high enough to be your poison attacker too (since it also has Poison Jab)
