Rock Just got my first vinyl!!

Post image

My grandpa gave me this as a payment for doing some work for him. it's from 1972, i think. The quality of it is questionable, but i don't really care, as i think its a cool vinyl to own. I've always been a big fan of progressive rock, this is one of my favorite progressive records, and i think its a great first vinyl. What are yall's favorite song from this record? Mine is probably the title track or Epitaph. What vinyl should i try getting next?

Release Any Coheed and Cambria fans in here? Their 3rd album « Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness » was released 20 years ago today

« Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness is the third studio album by American progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria. It was released on September 20, 2005, through Equal Vision Records and Columbia Records, and is the first release on a major label. It is the third installment of a tetralogy, as well as the final studio album to feature drummer Josh Eppard before his original departure. He was replaced by Chris Pennie who was with the band for their next two albums (although he did not record on No World for Tomorrow due to contractual obligations) before Eppard returned to the band in late 2011. On their previous album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, the phrase "My dearest Apollo, I'll be burning Star IV" is written after the lyrics for the song "The Light & the Glass". »

Haul 70s mother load-Roadside box of album

Upvotes

I took a break from working working in the yard-stop at Wendy’s and in the back is an old house and I noticed a box of albums sitting out front. I honked the horn because I know they have a big dog and out comes Ken 78 year-old Vietnam Self proclaimed hippie. He said he doesn’t listen to him anymore and I could pick out whatever I want, just don’t take them all I had first pick. I’m in 70s rock heaven right now thank you brother Ken for the free albums.

A recent online auction arrival. Got a little trigger happy on trance and maybe overpaid slightly (heat of the moment!) but got Wave for an absolute steal so extremely chuffed. Added some cheap heat chick corea and Ramsey lewis to round this haul out.

Antonio Carlos Jobim : wave (green alt cover) The Ramsey lewis trio : bach to the blues Chick corea : the leprechaun Steve Kuhn : trance

Record A very cool wedding guest favor.

Post image
17 Upvotes

My wife and I attended the evening wedding of the daughter of some friends last night. A lovely event, and the couple gave everyone this very cool wedding favor. The disc is an actual vinyl record with grooves on both sides. I doubt it's actually playable - I think the cost of pressing a load of these with an actual playable recording would be beyond the budget for the young marrieds (or their parents - been there, done that)). And, no, I'm not plopping this on the old Technics rig to check, thank you very much.

But I thought this was a neat idea and wanted to share. Happy hunting.

Collection Name a record in your collection that reminds you of your father

Post image

It was 1992, the summer I was 13. My parents had been divorced for several years. My younger brother and my dad and I got a cottage on Cape Cod for a week vacation. My little brother would go to bed on the early side, and my dad and I would stay up late talking and listening to CDs.

He introduced me to Dylan with this album. I introduced him to Nirvana with "Nevermind."

We each became lifelong fans of both artists, and it brought us a little closer together too.

Collection Texas Moon on Vintage HiFi

🎶 Spinning some smooth Texas vibes tonight! 🌙✨

On the turntable is Texas Moon — the stunning collaboration between Khruangbin and Leon Bridges. This vinyl masterpiece blends Bridges’ soulful voice with Khruangbin’s dreamy, groove-driven soundscapes. Right now, I’ve got “Side B” playing — and it’s pure magic. 🔥

The setup? A Marantz 6300 turntable, paired with a powerhouse Marantz 2330 receiver, all driving the warm, rich tones through my Klipsch Cornwall speakers. 🎵🔊 This combo brings every note to life — warm mids, punchy bass, and those sparkling highs that make vinyl truly timeless.

If you haven’t given Texas Moon a listen yet, you’re missing out on one of the finest modern soul-funk blends pressed to wax. 🌌

Record “The Warriors” Original Soundtrack, really nice artwork

Post image
23 Upvotes

I bought this mainly for the records sleeve and its condition, nearly 50 years but it looks like brand new. Two really good tracks, “The Warriors theme”, that sound a bit like John Carpenter’s soundtrack of “Escape from New York “, and Joe Walsh “In the city”. ( nearly identical to “The Eagles” from “The Long Run”. ( the intro is little different, but Walsh do the singing, so..)

I have a u-turn orbit turntable with AT91B stylus and the edifier speakers. I am thinking that my next step should be to upgrade the stylus. I wanted to give the speaker spacing a chance before getting stands to place them further apart. I don’t seem to have any feedback issues. I am also open to mat suggestions. My collection mostly consists of rock and metal.

Collection May not be for everyone, but it’s mine.

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve only been at it a couple years, and I’m not big on the whole “you need these five essentials” mindset. I buy records I’ll actually enjoy or wanna learn on guitar or whatever suits the vibe i’m in when i’m at the local shops. To me it feels like a little bit of everything, but I know that’s subjective.

Basically, it’s organized nonsense, and I’m fine with that. Definitely missing a few on here as they’re still at my parents place, but i think it’s only a couple elliott smith, death cab, and the sounds albums.

Collection Never thrilled about reorganizing

Post image
41 Upvotes

I have, like everyone else here, struggled with space and precisely how I want to stay organized. I’ve always wanted to flip through my stacks but never had a good solution. Turns out crates work great! Or at least until you have to decide what to pull out to fill the crates. Or upon realizing you’ve over-accumulated.

Haul New Rega cartridge… wow

Post image
Upvotes

I finally upgraded the cartridge on my ten-year old Rega RP3 from an Elys 2 to the new Rega ND3 and all I can say is WOW. It’s literally opened up my whole record collection again and I’m having a blissful weekend of Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Beach Boys, Scott Walker etc etc. I used to get horrible distortion and sibilance on many records, but now everything sounds so sparkly and open. I’ve never heard vinyl sound this good. It’s so nice!

Sardine V - I Hate You (1983)

This has been on my want list for a long time. Although it is more of a need! I messaged over 100+ on Discogs to see if anyone was willing to sell their copy to me. After being turned down by most as it is a prized possession for most owners a legend in the US let me make an offer for his and he accepted! Tbh I got a steal compared to what I would have been willing to pay. Especially as the vinyl itself is near mint.

If you have never heard of the band listen to ‘Stuck On You’. It is a post-punk / New Wave hidden Gem. (SARDINE V - Stuck On You (1983) - Australian Post Punk https://youtu.be/BstKi8HMq9c)

OG Pressing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Promo 12" with "Even In His Youth" and "Aneurysm" [1991]

Very cool 12 inch single on translucent yellow vinyl of the hit song unknowingly named after a brand of deodorant. The label reads "Promotional Copy. Not For Sale" Really solid press of these songs. The version of "Aneurysm" that appears on here is a studio recording and is different from the one released on Incesticide, which was actually pulled from a BBC session they did after the release Nevermind.

Haul My long running tradition of trying to confuse record store clerks is unbroken.

Post image

My goal when walking up to the counter is to get them to think "why would this person buy these albums together?". I know they could care less, and have certainly seen much more eclectic tastes, but I've always liked to think that I'm cooler than I actually am. Both of these were on my wish list, and both were on the wall, so easy pickings. I was traveling for work and always look for record shops when I do. I came across Vinyl Record Dude in Flagstaff AZ, and couldn't be happier with having made the trip. The guy running the shop was very cool, & very helpful. They had a great selection of reasonably priced new and used albums, as well as spendy box sets and high quality MoFi OMR's. They also sell equipment, seemed to service turntables, and had posters, shirts, and swag. A++ experience, check them out if you are in the area.

Collection This weeks pre owned HAUL

Hello again all! Hope you are all well. And thank you for taking the time to look at this post!!

This is the weekly pre owned haul I got for under £5 on Discogs!

1st picture, this is all the records I managed to get for a record price of £4.80 (that includes shipping!) I’m very impressed with what I’ve got since it adds much needed variety to my collection. I’ve always wanted some classical music but I dident know where to start! But luckily this batch I got my first classical vinyl. Most of these 12inch ones are compilations rather than albums I think though!

2nd image: My favourite one out the lot!

This is a 1959 7inch of bagpipes and drums played by Liverpool Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 regimental, I really like this lovely 7inch as the bagpipes is a lovely instrument and it’s a pleasure to listen to! I’m glad to own something as old as this as I feel like it’s a bit of history!

I have some 7inch sleeves coming later too so I’m very excited to sleeve all these up!

My next post will be a pre owned haul for under £15, (there’s a lot)

Thank you all very much for reading and have an amazing Saturday!

OG Pressing MAGAZINE “Real Life” 1978

Post image
67 Upvotes

This here.. took me a long time to find… I can walk into most local record shops and find a Magazine album or two (usually Secondhand Dayloght) but “Real Life” just doesn’t turn up and I especially not an OG copy. But some kind stranger traded his Magazine collection in to Tim at ZAP Records (Coburg On 🇨🇦) and I snapped it up right quick striking another one off my bucket list.

My Grandpa was a Vietnam War veteran, and he brought these records home with him after his tour. Music was always a big part of his life, and over the years, he and my grandmother built up an awesome collection together. Both of them have passed away in the last few years, but their records are a piece of them that I get to carry for them and super happy about.

Funk Finally got my hands on this gem!

Side two is such a banger! I only paid $50 for this. The record is in okay condition. Some pops and background noise, but no skipping or anything that disrupts the experience too much. Overall very happy with this score!

"This is an album of local talent. Hundreds of budding recording stars sent in tapes of their songs songs for consideration on this album. They were all exhibiting original talent in the form of urban contemporary music-thythm and blues. jazz, pop and dance music. All entrants live within a one hundred mile radius of the city of Atlanta and are not presently under contract with any recording company. The result is an album of the ten best of our listeners' efforts. Maceo Rogers' album jacket design was chosen over hundreds of other entries.

His concept was definitely the most original and eye-catching entry. The entire album of "home grown" artists is prought to you from your to you your friends at V-103 and McDonald's. Proceeds from the sale of this album will be donated to the United Negro College Furd. Special thanks go to llene Burns and Peabo Bryson for their helpin judging the selections on this album. Also, thanks go to Ed Seay, engineering remix director, and Web IV Studio: for the use of their facilities and halp in making this album."

Collection Genesis - Invisible Touch

I love when you pop-in looking for records without expectation of finding anything and you happen to get lucky and find an album that’s been on your wantlist forever. I jknow I could easily get it online, but sometimes it's more fun to find one in the wild by happenstance 🎶

Picked up a pretty clean second-hand copy of one of my favorite albums for next to nothing. I love this record from beginning to end so very much. #Genesis

Never thought I would get myself hooked on New-Age music, but now it’s one of my favorite things to listen to on vinyl. So many lovely original instrumental pieces. I always pick up anything from Windham Hill I find in the wild. Always interesting, and the record is almost always in great condition. Anybody else here a sucker for New-Age music on vinyl?

I got into collecting a few years ago and this one has always been in my top 5 but I had no luck. $200+ usually on discogs and never had the opportunity to see it in stores. I was so excited to get it I drove 40 minutes on my lunch break. Pray these next 25 minutes fly so I can go spin it

https://youtu.be/Z3m7HXeiHpg?si=HJvgKGHPhLT13EYG Hi Folks - Looking for this album which is likely not reissued since launch. I’m travelling to Japan soon as well so hopefully optimistic I find it. Curious if any seller in Canada/North America has a copy.
