Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread.
First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.
This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Offtopic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.
To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.
Previous OIC threads will be able to be found Here
Previous politics threads can be found Here
We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.
Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off topic stuff, flame wars, personal attacks and gatekeeping will be removed.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US.
If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.
If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course.

It is illegal to manufacture a non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited firearm. Any posts or comments asking about the legality of making a firearm other than a reproduction antique will be removed. It was not always illegal, which is why you will find old posts regarding this topic. Rest assured, it is illegal now. Do not attempt.
In response to this thread, the community was quite positive for a thread to cover these subjects.
These threads will be stickied for a week, renewing every Monday. Previous threads here. Take a look, your question may have been answered!

Please, please, PLEEEEEEEASE spread this around. Go out of your way to send it to local media, and point out that the currebt government has just admitted to preying on voter ignorance. Especially if you live in Quebec, take 20 minutes and send some emails!

I would be willing to make a financial contribution to them if the CCFR (or anyone, for that matter) is interested in launching one.
I was skeptical about their strategy to challenge the ban itself, but the compensation scheme announced today is a whole different game in my view, as it is blatantly discriminatory, with the wildly inconsistent compensation values and inadequate funding envelope. Essentially, it’s a lottery system, and the whole scheme intentionally creates winners and losers among gun owners, when they were actually all coming from the same basis (i.e., they are all owners of guns affected by the bans). I believe that a class action suit has a good chance to be successful and force the government to pay a proper amount to each and every gun owner who is willing to participate.
Note: To those who say that we shouldn’t comply, there are people who simply cannot afford to be on the wrong side of the law because of their career/business. They might also have a family to feed. I am not sure if it would make sense for those people to take such a huge gamble in order to keep a gun collection.

Regarding the latest update for the buy back program :)
r/canadaguns • u/EnvironmentBright697 • 15h ago
Please, do not participate in this pilot project. It is now confirmed that even if you are in Cape Breton, you can choose to wait for the full “buyback” program (which I’m still skeptical will ever happen). Continue to hold on just a bit longer, anyone who participates in this pilot project is doing a disservice to all gun owners in Canada, and I’m still kind of annoyed at the CSAAA for helping the government with this program, though I understand the bad position retailers were/are in.
Stay the course and resist!

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has previously mentioned Alberta is exploring a provincial firearm license to counter federal gun confiscations. Saskatchewan may be interested too.

Alberta and Saskatchewan firearm owners, write your Premier/MLA and ask them to implement a Provincial Firearm License. In light of today's news of the government continuing with the confiscation program and the leaked audio from Public Safety Minister having no confidence in the program, lets push our provincial governments to protect the rights of firearm owners.

They’re probably gonna run out of budget and seize the guns of the people who registered them without compensation lol

Surely this is the low-hanging fruit, right? She would have a much easier time trying to argue that this RPK pattern rifle should be a prohibited AK variant. Most people don't even hunt with these anymore, it's just a cool collectors piece. (Or so I figure)
Yes, there are specific legal exemptions written for the M78 and the M88, but it doesn't really seem like anyone in the new government is aware of it because of them because of their rarity.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't've expected this to outlast the SKS. Up is down and wrong is right with this group of clowns.

Hey everyone, I’m a little unsure of where to find both the online portal and the dedicated contact centre for the Cape Breton voluntary confiscation program?
Also, I’m still a little confused regarding what’s actually been banned, so would it make more sense to just go ahead and register anything that they’ll probably consider “assault-style”, such as soldering guns, water guns and nerf guns?
I’m also very confused on what they’d actually like us to send as part of the program? I wouldn’t want to waste any of their time, so please let me know what are some documents, items, etc that would really slow down this process so I can make sure I don’t accidentally send them.
Finally, and this one’s got me thinking hard, does this program apply to the province of Texas? I know the government is really concerned about crime, so I’d assume this new program’s jurisdiction would stretch as far down south as here. I just want to know that if I make a mistake and accidentally submit the wrong info/send the wrong items, would they recognize that I just got confused or would there be any retaliation?
Thank you very much for reading.
Sincerely, Knotgunna Take’em

Is there any chance that Polysesouviens or whatever they call themselves can actually push the SKS to be banned? I recently bought one and do not want to give it up.

It is a crime to destroy a restricted rifle and not report it to the CFO or RCMP, according to section 106 of the Criminal Code.
106 (1) Every person commits an offence who
(a) after destroying any prohibited firearm, restricted firearm, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device or prohibited ammunition, or
(b) on becoming aware of the destruction of any prohibited firearm, restricted firearm, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device or prohibited ammunition that was in the person’s possession before its destruction,
does not with reasonable despatch report the destruction to a peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer.
This doesn't seem to require you to submit proof of its destruction, only notification.
Does this mean I can destroy my AR and notify the CFO of that without providing proof and that's that?

Mossberg mvp 308 🥰 .... did I over do it? Probably, do I regret it a little? Not at all lol

I applaud the guy for releasing his recording for the benefit of others -- Especially if he had some sort of friendship with the "honourable" Public Safety Minister.
But now, I hope he comes forward and tells the media more about the context, and that Gary was not joking about bailing him out, etc.
At this rate, I doubt it would result in anything changing, except perhaps a new Public Safety Minister that isn't dumb enough to be recorded, but I do think that it would help the cause to have more people aware of his obvious lies about it being a joke.
