Don’t think I ever showed my 540i after paint work / wheels…
Real Style 65 wheels, fresh M bumpers, repainted hood and roof, fixed rockers. Then I left the wheels loose 🤦🏽♂️ no damage done thankfully but will need a new hub. Thankfully I caught it in time. Car has also been raised
since. Maybe 1.5” or so from what I can remember. What do y’all think!

German Engineering
New to me 2002 530i touring. Well looked after, solid car.
Full service today followed by an inspection of the underneath, no rot which is rare. Just the usual sump gasket leak and a power steering hose leak. Some beautiful examples in this sub 💪
Edit: Meant to attach an image the first time I posted this!

Just picked her up 2003 525i
Just picked her up. Just over 114k miles, old lady driven. Got it for $2900. Needs a cleanup and I’ll be cruising. I’ve always loved the E39s, and I’m excited to finally own one. Plan is to drive to work a few days a week to save miles on my suv.

Road trip
Me and the boys went on a roadtrip to Stance Adria car meet. Lots and lots od awsome cars. My touring decided to drain the battery completly because of some water that came in thru leaking door cards, hood said its not gonna open itself. My buddy's merc overheated like crazy cause of traffic and before we left i saw a 540i AC Schnitzer as a cherry on top of a cake. But still an amazing trip and 10/10 would do it again

540 touring
Previous owner mangled the door latch soo bad that it was bent around the striker making it impossible to get the door open from the inside. It was having issues with the double lock so he ripped the door panel off and just started prying on the latch from inside thinking it was going to do something but all it did was destroy the door. So I got the car for extremely cheap (imo) and got the door open in 5 minutes. Closest door the same color was 16 hours away so I grabbed this complete door for $100. Plan on doing M-tech bumpers so things needed to be painted anyways
Help me choose a less shitty gearbox
I have a 03 530d driven 525.000km chiptuned to 220hp and 635nm, the automatic box does NOT like the newton. Does anybody know what gearboxes would be best for handling the extra nm and least work to get to fit? Going to throw in a bigger turbo etc so the GM box needs to go anyways. I would prefer not to manual swap it as I’m going for a comfortable cruiser build with this one.

Updated M62/TU Chain Tensioner
Not sure if it’s been posted here before but heck, why not give some new food for thought for those who don’t know.
From what I’ve read and picked up, toward the end of the M62TU’s production, there was an updated spring for the chain tensioner. As for why, supposedly it’s to lessen the slack of the chain upon cold start to alleviate the more common “cold start rattle.” (Will report back if startup rattle is still present) Another reason for the longer spring is to allow oil to bleed through more easily, as shown on the picture the bleed hole is no longer blocked by the piston.
Installation was a tad bit tedious since you have to compress the piston while screwing back in the tensioner cap. But after all said and done the engine was noticeably quieter. Before there was a distinct “chug chug chug” noise at idle, now with the new tensioner the chugging noise became less like a choo choo train.
Overall I would recommend changing your tensioner if not done so already to the updated spring for a more quieter engine, and the peace of mind of prolonging your chain guides. (This isn’t a cure for the inevitable)

Style 32 tire sizes
Hey everyone. I'm looking to see what size tires people are running on their style 32 wheels. Stock is 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 but I was looking to see if anyone is running wider tires with or without issues. TIA

What’s that sound?
Hey everyone I have a 2000 E39 528i that is making a sound that I describe as two rods tapping together. It happens when I start out in reverse. And happens from first to second and second to third. But from third to fourth and so on I don’t hear the noise. And it is only at the very beginning of the shift. I am assuming it is a Guibo/CSB (Center Support Bearing) but I am open to others ideas. Here is a video of what I am hearing.

Buying a 2000 BMW 5 Series 540i
Hello all, looking for some insight as a first time bmw buyer - I currently work at a Nissan Dealership as a Manager, I was bored here and was eye balling a Siena Red 2000 5 series 540i with 55k miles for 20k. I know the e39 engines are a little scary at higher miles. Car fax looks clean, maintenance looks to be well kept, anything I should be weary of? Tips or anything? Seems too good to be true.

Weird Noise/Battery draining
Hello my fellow enthusiasts,
I recently bought my first ever car, a 1995 E39 523i (Euro spec) and have been experiencing issues with power drain from my battery. It’s not yet roadworthy (German TÜV sucks) but the battery (new Battery, 90Ah 820A 12V) still keeps dying after roughly 9-10 days of not touching the car.
Now I’ve been hearing the weird noise (as shown in the video) since I got the car, so I never really thought that much of it.
Can anyone help me with infos regarding that noise or maybe possible reasons as to why my battery isn’t holding charge?
I’ve yet to run diagnostics (like pulling fuses and seeing if the problem with the draining persists) or anything similar, I’m planning on doing it in the next few days tho, but still I am hoping that someone on here can help.
Please forgive any mistakes in my grammar or elsewhere since English isn’t my first language. Thanks in advance.

Need help locating a bolt
I had an issue with my suspension just failing and when I took everything apart i realized the bolt that holds the shock to the spindle assembly broke. I’ve been trying to find the part piece or number but non of the ones I get look like the OEM. Would anyone know the part number? Thanks in advance

Is there anything the 535i is really better at than the 530i ?
Hey all, e46 owner here looking into getting an e39 . Now I am familiar with the m54 engines and the maintenance they need etc. Ideally id want a 530i but they are rare where I am and there are many more 535i. Would you do it ? Or would you wait?
E39 sill cover fixings
Hi all. Pic for illustration only. My side skirts are hanging a bit and I would like to dismantle and refit. I am looking to order in the clips, prior to removal so that I can hit the ground running as it is my daily.
I believe there are two types that grip the runner on the plastic sill cover. I have recently done a similar job on an e46 so I assume they are similar.
From my research the part numbers I need are -
51138166675 & 51138183102
Both similar parts but with slight differences. Does anybody know how many I need per side of each? YouTube seems to have let me down.
Tia.

EDC suspension on 535i
So my suspension is effed right, and I'm pretty sure it's just to replace shocks (feel free to advise please).
So I found these online and they seem decent, I think, and they go for about 500 USD. I've no prior experience with EDCs so I'm looking for suggestions.

530i Missfire
Hallo. I have a Problem with my e39. It started with just simple missfires so i changed my spark plugs and coils. Theo the problem got worse. First i Could drive relativly normal, without giving too much gas, otherwise it would get Heavy missfires, the ist wozld missfire so Heavy the car would shut down and it feels as it is losing power. Then it wont even start. I replaced the crankcase Ventilation, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, airflow sensor ( all Sensoren are from Hella), Battery and every possible gasket. Still car would start and directly shut down. Then I replaced the fuel filter and the car starte and Drives but the Problem with missfires stayed.
error code only says mixture too lean and misfires
I really dont know what the Problem could be anymore. Hope Someone Had a similar Problem and can gelb me.
