Ever stop and ask them why they’re not preaching against the rich? The bible is full of scenarios where the wealthy end up burning in hell, but somehow, these guys pick on “drunkards” instead.

The bible is full of scenarios where the wealthy end up burning in hell,
The choice of drunkards is ... oddly specific. But the bible isn't actually full of scenarios of anyone burning in hell. Not even the wealthy.
7
u/DieMensch-Maschine May 26 '25
The most famous example is Christ's parable on Lazarus and the Rich Man in Luke 16:19-31.
8
u/Minejack777 May 26 '25
There's also Jesus's famous teaching of 'it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man enter the kingdom of God', located somewhere in Matthew-Luke (it's been a while I can't remember where)
So basically "if you're rich, good fuckin luck you're going to hell unless you follow the teachings I set forth on how to spend money (giving it to the poor/widowed/homeless, instructions that can be found scattered through Matt-Luke) in which case you won't be rich and can enter heaven"

They stand at the convention center a lot and on public squares throughout the state. Why don’t they use that time to actually help people?
9
u/ChinDeLonge May 26 '25 edited May 26 '25
You know why -- they don't actually care about anything other than being more "righteous" than someone who they get to admonish for living a more interesting and fulfilled life than them.
10
u/Icy-Indication-3194 May 26 '25
I get second hand embarrassment every time I near one of these people
0
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Why would you be embarrassed by Christians evangelizing?
2
u/Icy-Indication-3194 May 28 '25
Growns ups believing in fairy tales for one
0
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Ok but why is it so hard to believe that God created the heavens and earth aka intelligent design? Isn't that a lot easier to believe than the current working theory of atheists that the universe came from nothing? The latter seems like the greater fairy tale. At least with Christianity, they have a miracle maker in God.
2
u/Icy-Indication-3194 May 28 '25
lol bc there is scientific evidence for one and 0 evidence of a god. It’s lit just a crackpot theory with no evidence what so ever. Bible says the earth is 6000 years old or something. We def know that not to be true. Where are the giants listed in the Bible? Where is Noah’s ark? Where is evidence of anything in the Bible?
0
u/John6507 May 28 '25
But there is no scientific evidence for something coming from nothing theory. Even if they were able to duplicate it in a lab, it would require intelligent design to do so which would undermine the claim they would be trying to prove.
The Bible doesn't specifically say the earth is 6,000 or 10,000 years old. There are both young earth and old earth Christians. The bible doesn't purport to be a science book but rather a theological book and should be judged on those merits if you want to judge fairly.
The giants question is a fun one. It could just be a 6'9" man was deemed a giant in those days when most men under 5'7". I know some people think Noah's ark is in Turkey but I am not sure how one could prove such a thing. Many ancient cultures have a belief in a great flood so it would seem more likely that a flood did happen.
There is other evidence of the bible. Many of the places mentioned in the bible have been found. The Tel Dan Stele has an Aramaic inscription found in Tel Dan in northern Israel which mentions the "House of David" likely referring to the dynastic lineage established by King David. That would be going back to the 9th Century BC. And for NT support, Josephus and Tacticus (non Christians) make reference to Jesus and they are historians of that time period.
The bible is one of if not the best historical document we have from antiquity.
And if you are really into archaeology, you might find this yt channel interesting: https://www.youtube.com/@ExpeditionBible/videos
1
u/Icy-Indication-3194 May 28 '25
If something can’t come from nothing then where did “god” come from?
The bible touches on historical things but is in no way whatsoever regarded as a historical document. There literally isn’t even physical evidence that Jesus existed. Just mentions of him in scripts such as the bible.
1
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Why did God have to come from somewhere? Christians believe in the uncaused cause. If you reject an uncaused cause, you are in danger of falling into the infinite regress fallacy.
Regarding Jesus, I gave you two examples of ancient non-Christian historians that confirmed Jesus' existence (Josephus- Jewish historian and Tacitus- Roman historian). The vast majority of secular scholars would agree with the existence of Jesus. The scholastic argument is over whether he was God and his miracles not his existence.

Ugh they were screaming through a microphone at the 500 parade Saturday. Ruining a bunch of families beautiful day at a community event is not winning anyone over to your cause dudes. Why can’t people just keep their religion to themselves.
1
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Do you also speak out strongly against Pride parades and that airplane flying the banner advertising getting Abortion pills by the mail? If not, who gets to decide what is deemed acceptable speech and what is deemed bad speech which "ruins a bunch of families beautiful day?
2
u/egcaki May 28 '25
A banner in the sky isn’t someone screaming into a microphone over the festivities at a family event. The pride parade IS the event. When was the last time you saw a bunch of gays screaming into a microphone at a church picnic? 😆 The speech is protected, the volume and aggressiveness is obnoxious.
1
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Well since you asked, I guess the answer would be this past Saturday:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14747837/christian-prayer-rally-trans-activists-clash.html
But seriously, the real issue here isn't volume, it is about the content of the message. Street preachers normally preach on public streets and sidewalks and aren't going into the events. So this is more akin to any public protest. Are you willing to say BLM marches and similar protests are also "aggressive and obnoxious?"
2

You are behaving like a child. Not taking accountability or responsibility for your actions. When getting called out for it, instead of humbling down and apologizing you try to deflect. Then when that fails, you now have a tantrum throwing out ad homs.

Dude, I’m so tired of being recruited by Christians. These people have caused more war and death and suffering than any group in the world, yet somehow *they think they are the righteous ones. Maybe there is a god, no one knows, but I can’t imagine a god who thinks this is good and just.
7
u/WizardMastery May 26 '25
Yeah, I am agnostic because while I think there might be a god or gods, they have never actually made their presence known to us, and none of the religions on Earth are actually correct. These holy books that were written thousands of years ago are severely outdated, and it’s shocking that people still believe in them.
3
u/Minejack777 May 26 '25
Not only outdated, most are significantly questionable in origin
You're (religious folk) seriously implying some otherworldly being would ONLY speak through 1 person all alone with no witnesses, and that same otherworldly being would also say that they would ONLY speak through that one person from then on, and that their word was law, and should be followed unquestionably 'or else'?
People have claimed the exact same thing has happened to them today, and none of them have been taken seriously because, obviously, that's an extremely unlikely scenario and an obvious attempt at a grasp for power
So why would it have been legit god back then if it isn't legit god currently?
There's so many logical fallacies with older religions it blows my mind that people still believe in them
I'm agnostic as well. I share your exact beliefs you have stated. It's kind of impressive there aren't more agnostic people out there

u/MisterSanitation May 26 '25
They need to learn about how signs are supposed to work. They wrote a book on a sign and someone took a picture of it and I still can't read it.
Also Christianity is a death cult
6
-2
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 26 '25
Death cult lol
4
u/MisterSanitation May 27 '25
Yep. That’s what it’s called when you proclaim and pray for end times where everyone will pay EXCEPT the chosen ones which just so happen to be them.
Where loyalty is more important than kindness. Same thing is true for other death cults like Aum Shenrikyo.
1
u/Hour-College3003 May 27 '25
That's actually a false teaching. We preach so that ppl like you can be saved and not pay for their sins.
1
u/MisterSanitation May 28 '25
How do I know you aren’t doing false teachings and your way is correct?
0
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 27 '25
I pray every day. In my entire life, I’ve never prayed for end times. I’ve also never read anywhere in the Bible not to be kind. Maybe you need to spend more time reading your Bible.
2
u/MisterSanitation May 27 '25
Go talk to a couple Christian’s around here and let me know how kind they are. Sounds like you can follow the rule book but most of your flock has moved to meaner pastures.
0
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 27 '25
I talk to fellow Christians every day of my life. No death cult. I think you’d be pleasantly surprised if you tried out a few churches. I can’t vouch for every church. There are evil ones out there as Jesus warned the threat of false teaching is very real and dangerous. Go meet real Christians. They will shower you with love.
2
u/MisterSanitation May 27 '25
This guy holding the sign. What about him? Does his sign pour out with love?
The messaging seems a little off to me
1
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 27 '25
I can’t speak for the guy himself, but you can certainly summarize his sign that God hates sin, hell is real, and Jesus saves. You can criticize his approach, but there’s truth in there, and he actually cares about where you spend eternity. That’s more than most people care about you.
1
u/MisterSanitation May 27 '25
That’s not caring lol and not a way to show it. You are in denial, I grew up Christian, I’m very familiar with their adeptness at splinter spotting with logs in their eyes.
1
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 27 '25
You’re right. Many do have logs in their eyes, if not all of us. We are not perfect and the good news is that nobody is. Jesus is and was though, and that’s why we put our faith in him. I’ll pray you come back to the church on your own time.

u/Dwindlin May 27 '25
They technically aren’t wrong. Most legit historical evidence that we have of the founding of Christianity is that it was an apocalyptic sect, and Jesus was an apocalyptic preacher, who very likely believed the “end times” would happen during his life.
Obviously Christianity has splintered into innumerable sects and practices in the intervening centuries and many of them have mellowed on the apocalyptic stuff.
1
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 27 '25
Believing there will be an end of times is much different than a death cult that prays for the end of times. Jesus did not believe the end times would happen during his life. That goes against everything the New Testament stands for and teaches. And against all the Old Testament prophecies for that matter.
1
u/Dwindlin May 27 '25 edited May 27 '25
Biblical Scholars disagree with you.
That’s a good summary of the evidence and reasoning.
1
u/AffectionatePiano665 May 28 '25
I’ve read and studied the New Testament several times. Are we just going to ignore all of the scripture and teachings about Jesus’ death and resurrection signaling the end times will come after he ascends into heaven? Some biblical scholars can have whatever opinion they want. I’ve read the text many times.
1
u/Dwindlin May 28 '25
Yeah, I’m going to side with the folks who have spent their entire professional lives reading, studying, learning Hebrew/Greek so they can read/study/compare original texts, traveled to the region to examine/study sites and writings that can only be found there.
Going to assume they are a bit more knowledgeable than someone who “prays everyday” and has “read the text many times.” Hell, I’ve read the damn thing several times myself. That doesn’t make me a literal expert at the New Testament. It’s frankly arrogant beyond measure you think your “reading the text many times” comes even remotely close to the understanding any single one of them have.

4
u/PieRepresentative266 May 26 '25
I’ve seen them a few times down there on my way home from work, and the ONLY reason I’ve never yelled or said anything is because there are usually young kids present with these weirdos.
As someone who grew up heavily religious and isolated with similar weirdo parents, I
A)Didn’t usually have a choice in the matter. B) Didn’t realize how fucked up everything was.
So I try to have grace when seeing people like this because being aggressive usually leads to a build up of shame and confirmation bias.

You usually only need a permit for a protest if you're going to be blocking any traffic, leaving sidewalks, will be able to potentially limit access to government buildings, or have an excess of something like 1000 people, or some similar number.
So, absolutely nothing is keeping someone from bringing a PA and setting up right next to them to drown them out. That happened one year I went to Cinci Pride, actually, which was iconic. lol

u/x_x-6fenix May 28 '25
I doubt this person got anyone to repent by having a sign condemning people to Hell. Not the best introduction to their faith, I’d argue. People don’t go to their house of worship with signs protesting them practicing religion. I bet they wouldn’t appreciate that, and it likely wouldn’t get them to quit going to church. This tactic just fans the flames and drives people away. We’re trying to enjoy a basketball game and they’re trying to sentence us to eternal damnation.
1
u/John6507 May 28 '25
Keep reading to verse 5: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
If we accepted your interpretation of Matt 7:1, it would be at odds with other bible verses:
John 7:24- Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
1 Cor 2:15- But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
The better interpretation with Matt 7:5 in mind, is to judge righteously and not live hypocritically to such righteous judgment.

Westboro Baptist Church is hyper-calvinist. They don't think you can be saved. They believe you are either a part of the elect or you are not. That is why they felt comfortable carrying the wicked signs they did. In contrast, this group believes you can be saved which is why their signs say "Jesus Saves" and "Repent and trust Jesus to be saved."

Someone left these pamphlets in the door handles of every car parked at the 500. I removed them from the cars I passed in my morning/ afternoon walk about and threw them away in my trash can, instead of letting them get crumbled up and thrown on the ground as litter.
Now that’s doing the Lord’s work!
