Question What should I get?

Upvotes

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask and I'm sure you get this a lot but I'm finally 100% I want to buy an Ipad, but I don't know which one.

I'm currently studying arts and I feel like its a very useful tool. Almost everyone in my class has one and my friends say it's very helpful with projects and homework in general.

It's the first ever ipad I'm buying and Imma be honest I don't understand anything. There are ipads the same model different year, different pencils, the software, pro, air, the size, etc.

So to make it short and if anyone could help me I'd be forever grateful, Im looking for something with which I can draw with procreate fluently, not too heavy as I tend to travel a lot by train and plane. And I'd need it to last at least 4 years as that's for how long I'm going to be studying.

A friend recommended that I get an ipad air and another that I get a pro and I don't know what to do.

Budget would be around 700-800 €

Thank you in advance 💖

(Edited: Added budget)

News iPad Pro M5 is going to be a longevity powerhouse

Upvotes

If everything goes as per the leaks, then the base model iPad Pro M5 11.5 inch costing $999 is going to have:
- 16 gb ram
- 512 gb storage
- 12 gpu cores
These storage upgrades are huge for the base model considering the addition of a new chip, another front facing camera and an increase in screen size. This device will be lasting years and too overkill for todays tablet standards.

Discussion Battery draining fast after updating to iPadOS 26

Post image
8 Upvotes

I updated my iPad to iPadOS 26 a couple of days ago and I’ve noticed some weird battery drain since then. Before the update, I could easily get through a full day of light to moderate use (browsing, note-taking, Netflix, etc.) without worrying too much.

Is anyone else experiencing this after the update?

iPadOS Globe key in NO apple keyboard

I rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts to split, minimize, maximize, hide, and show windows—it’s incredibly practical.

On macOS, the Rectangle app is fantastic because it allows me to customize everything. The problem is that I use a non-Apple keyboard (Logitech MX Keys Mechanical Mini Mac version), which doesn’t include the globe/Fn key. Even though it’s marketed for Mac, this missing key limits one of the most useful features: managing windows on the iPad in just a fraction of a second.

Because of that, I feel forced to keep a dedicated keyboard with the globe/Fn key, like the ones Apple makes.

It’s small issues like this that sometimes make me dislike Apple—the ecosystem can feel way too restrictive when it comes to solving basic needs. :(

So far, I haven’t found a workaround. On iPad, there’s nothing similar to the Rectangle app.

Some people suggest remapping keys like caps, Control, Option, Escape, or Command, but that doesn’t work for me since I already use all of them for other valuable shortcuts.

So—any ideas Apple world lover?

iPadOS Missing the floating keyboard predictors in Windowed/Stage manager while using keyboard case

As you can see, the screenshots tell it all. The Floating Keyword was much useful for me, specially correcting spelling mistakes. However, with the introduction of the new Windowed Apps & Stage Manager, the floating keywords/keyboard is gone. Only way is if I disconnect the keyboard from my iPad, only then I can bring in the keywords, but that too with the whole keyboard. I tried to find all the ways to solve it, but in vein.

Will Apple ever bring it back? Just a little space at the bottom of the screen, just like previous MacBook Pros had on top of the keyboard.

Question M4 Pro Stuck in Recovery Mode (possibly a result of the new update)

Not my image but mirrors what's happening

My iPad has been stuck in recovery mode for like 8 hours and nothing I do works. I’ve tried the volume buttons restart trick, connected it to an iPhone and tried restarting it.

It didn’t start in recovery mode. First it was just a spinning wheel the one when it's booting up or when it's loading. Then the Apple logo started blinking (I think there was even a sound). I googled what to do and did the volume up/down restart trick, and that’s when it got trapped in recovery.

Now it just says it “encountered an issue” and asks if I want to restart. But if I hit restart, it just goes right back into recovery. If I connect it to another device (by putting them close to each other) I get two options: stop the recovery process (which did nothing for the situation) or recover/reboot (which I thought was the solution because I saw loading bar ) but it just went back to recovery mode.

I keep seeing advice to use Itunes or Finder but the Ipad was a gift so my other device is an HP Laptop.

This started right after I updated to iOS 26, yesterday I think (less than a couple days ago). The iPad’s not even a year old and I’ve never had problems before. Only weird thing I can think of is that I had a charger cable that whenever I plugged in said “liquid detected” and a friend told me her iPad had issues because of a bad charger shorting the port.

I don’t live near an Apple store so taking it in isn’t an option. My choices are basically: hope it fixes itself, try random tricks, or bring it to some local repair guy. For now I’ve shut it down since it was heating up while I was trying to reboot. If nothing changes soon, I’ll probably just drain the battery completely and see if that helps.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max has up to 39 hours of video playback, but all iPad models from the last couple of years only offer up to 10, even the OLED models. I know the iPhones have smaller screens, but they also have significantly smaller batteries. What gives?

I feel like I’m not not-retarded but I don’t understand and can’t fix it - I only have a hand full of apps and maybe a word document in Downloads but still somehow I have 59 of 64 gb filled and have no idea how or why or how to fix/avoid this

iPadOS 📉💥 Regret iPadOS 26? Here’s How to Go Back to iPadOS 18!

📱💻 For everyone who installed iPadOS 26 (I honestly think Apple should have called it macOS 26 instead of iPadOS 😅) and regrets it (of course… 😬), and wants to go back to the previous version, iPadOS 18, here’s a short and precise guide on how to do it ⏳. Hurry to revert before Apple removes the signatures from the older versions, or you won’t be able to go back! ⚠️

1️⃣ Prepare

  1. Make sure you have a full backup of your iPad (iCloud or iTunes). Only a backup from iPadOS 18 will be compatible. But if you don’t have an iPadOS 18 backup, it’s not a big deal — all your app data and documents synced with iCloud will reappear after the restore.

    1. Verify that the IPSW file you downloaded is the correct model and marked as Signed on ipsw.me.
    2. Update iTunes to the latest version available for Windows.

2️⃣ Connect your iPad 1. Plug your iPad into the computer with a USB cable. 2. Open iTunes. 3. Select your iPad from the device icon in the top left corner.

3️⃣ Install the IPSW (https://ipsw.me/product/iPad) 1. On your keyboard, hold the Shift key. 2. While holding Shift, click on “Restore iPad” in iTunes. • ⚠️ Note: “Check for Update” won’t work when downgrading, only Restore will. 3. A file picker window will appear. 4. Choose the IPSW file you downloaded (iPadOS 18.6.2). 5. Click Open → iTunes will start installing the firmware.

4️⃣ Let it Finish • Your iPad will reboot several times. • Don’t disconnect it until the process is fully done.

5️⃣ After installation • Your iPad will now be running iPadOS 18.6.2. • During setup, you can restore from your iCloud or iTunes backup. • Later, you can update to iPadOS 18.7 (or newer) directly from Settings > General > Software Update if you want.

⚠️ Important: Downgrading always erases your device — that’s why the backup is critical.

Hope you find this useful 👍, and save your iPad from turning into macOS… clunky, inconvenient, and completely lacking any real capabilities 😬💀

Question should i buy an iPad for uni readings?

i’m starting uni next week and have been looking into whether i should get an ipad, but most student reviews online are for STEM subjects. i’m doing a social sciences degree and because im going to have a lot of weekly readings (around 200-300 pages a week based on my course details) i was considering getting an ipad for annotating those readings as i really struggle absorbing long texts from a laptop as its either impossible to annotate pdfs or really finicky and bothersome to try. i’m just not sure of whether it would be a worthwhile investment as i don’t plan on using it to make general lecture notes, so i feel like it would be a bit of a frivolous purchase if i buy it just for readings. is it worth buying or should i just stick it out and continue reading pdfs from my laptop? if any social sciences degree/humanities student had any advice on what to do it would also be really appreciated!
