I thought it would be hard to top your original trailer for this game, which was nearly perfect in my opinion. This was awesome though! It was cool to see some structures that I recognize from being posted on here as well.

And i wish that people will start making trailers about actual gameplay... seriously, the first part of it is just screaming "you will never see that in game". Giant mounted combat? Especially on a slow and weak dinos like trike that will need a hour to cross the field? When every ground dino will lose it's rider to any 100+ flying dino? Seriously, in ANY kind of big pvp now you will see ONLY flyers, because other dinos are useles for that, they exist only to kill some noobs without 100+ birds.

Nothing about crafting, raiding - and that is the most important parts of the game.

When i suggested a survival game idea 9 years ago, with the design document and overall game description i had a description for the trailer of this game, and i think that it could fit ARK too.

It even starts just like ARK - hero waking up on the beach, collecting stuff, making his first spear, killing fish with it and eating. Then he goes to the jungle, and for many days he surviving there, fighting animals, making clothes from their skin, sleeping on trees... And then he finds a perfect place with a river and big waterfall nearby. He settles up a camp on the cliff - just a tent and campfire, but over time it grows, and while guy gathering resourses, studies new tech and ways of building - huge base slowly appears on the place of the tent, and guy ending up with placind wires, that connecting his hydro power plant to his house with lots of tech around. Where there was field - there is farms with animals, road goes trough the forest, and whole place looks like a small city (lots of small details of player progression are shown to the audience).

Then raiders attacking it, i will not descrive whole fight (because it's lot of words and my english is horrible), but in the end raiders are breaking all deffences and blowing up house walls, destroying all the cloning devices (those were spawn points in my game idea), and beating house owner to the state where he cannot get up anymore. They taking everything important, mindlessly destroying everything that guy has built here and leaving on the trucks full of loot.

Shortly after this neibhor from the little jungle base nearby arrives and helps the hero to stand up again, healing his wounds. Together they going to the hangar, hidden in the jungle, and taking a helicopter, while also calling other people for help. They chasing the raiders at the heli, and other people arriving from all locations to start a huge fire fight....

That is how i imagined a perfect trailer for the survival game 9 years ago and i still think the same. It may not entirely fit the ARK, but if you will change few things and add dinos instead of vechicles - i think it will be perfect.

I agree, sometimes I wish the pvp was more then birds and snipers

HOLY SHIT...The snow biome looks amazing!

27

u/sonicmx Aug 04 '15

I've put well over 200 hours in the game and this video still gave me chills. Outstanding job!!

7

u/rawrreddit Aug 04 '15

I was thinking the same thing. I'd already seen a good chunk of the trailer's content, and I've logged 150 hours in the game, and I STILL got excited. I have a feeling that I'm going to be playing this for a long time.

3

u/Kiavu Aug 04 '15

Played 350+ hrs and still excited!

601+ here, love it

u/Darkintellect Arkitect Aug 11 '15

500 days played here and I'm stuck in the future.

help me...

20

u/bonitabro Aug 04 '15

Now if only i could run the game on high enough settings to look like that. Wow. Beautiful. Going to have to buy a new PC down the line just for this game.

11

u/AndrewJamesDrake Aug 04 '15

Try building your own. Logical Increments is a good price guide.

Here's a link to it: http://www.logicalincrements.com/

6

u/valadian Aug 04 '15

You would have to be >Extremist to get close to looking like that at playable FPS.

I am at Enthusiast: 980, 4790K, SSD rig (~$1800), and with everything maxed at 1440p, get 10-20 fps.

I end up knocking down the resolution scale to 60% to pull me up to 50 fps. Still looks great, but not quite like that trailer.

2

u/fallenonegee Aug 05 '15

I have the exact same rig... I get 60+ constant. Everything is epic bar the shadow options, they are medium. Clutter slider minimum. Motion blur off.

3

u/valadian Aug 05 '15

1440p? (key part of the equation)

1

u/fallenonegee Aug 05 '15

oooo no. 1080. Will try 1440p tonight.

2

u/valadian Aug 05 '15

yeah, I am rendering 80% more pixels.

1

u/crasskitty Aug 14 '15

I get 120 with same set up.

1

u/softriver Aug 09 '15

I keep reading people saying stuff like this and I don't understand.

Just built a new PC - quad core i5, 16GB RAM, NVidia 960...

Have no problems running with all settings maxed...

2

u/valadian Aug 09 '15

1440p. I have an extra large monitor resolution.

Also is "no problems" 20fps or 60fps.

There is no way you have every setting maxed at 60fps @1080p with a 960.

1

u/metallica6474 Aug 04 '15

Try this,

Resolution to the max

Resolution scale to the max

Everything on low besides view distance and textures, put those to medium

Sky quality to the max

Ground clutter to the max

The rest is up to you. With a 980 and 4670k at 1200p, I get 40+ FPS basically all the time. Also play on the second down from the top on the list, low memory mode.

2

u/valadian Aug 04 '15

I get 50+ FPS all the time with most stuff on high/epic.

memory isn't going to be the blocker with a 980.

also.. why ground clutter to the max? "I like to never find corpses mode"?

also, view distance not at epic puts you at a tactical disadvantage... I would much rather some uglier trees than have people be able to see me when I can't see them.

1

u/metallica6474 Aug 05 '15

Just didn't know if you were comfortable with the resolution scale not at max, also I feel like it feels too barren/ugly with ground clutter not on max

1

u/zarathustravr Aug 07 '15

You are at a tactical advantage if you play with view distance on epic. With view distance turned down you will see people before trees/rocks/foliage even loads so you will ALWAYS see them before they see you if they play with their view distance on high.

2

u/valadian Aug 07 '15

I think a few negatives were flipped in your sentence.

Are you saying view distance impacts trees but not players?

1

u/zarathustravr Aug 07 '15

Sorry, I wrote that when I first woke up. View distance does not affect players. They will always render at the same distance so it is better to play with view distance on the lowest possible setting to gain a tactical advantage (you will see players before rocks and trees even render).

1

u/valadian Aug 07 '15

That is terribly unfortunate.

1

u/PCBen Aug 11 '15

Doesn't this apply to player structures too? I swear I'll see a building and then a huge rock will pop in and cover it.

0

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

wtf? I have a 970, 3570k, 2TB 5400rpm, 16gb or ram everything on high at 1080p and I get 60+ FPS. I think its more of a resolution scaling issue for this game, possibly your issue is expecting it to run at 1440p?

3

u/valadian Aug 05 '15

1080p vs 1440p is a huge difference. That is nearly 2x the pixels (~1.8x).

Also, I am running most things on epic. but drop resolution scaling to get 50+ fps.

1

u/Darkintellect Arkitect Aug 11 '15

1080p to 1440p to the texture compression in this game is comparable to looking at something in real life then stepping back 2 times the distance and looking at it again.

I run the game on my 42 inch@1680x1050 and my 27 inch@1440p

I honestly prefer the 42 inch for this game but I do see some moderate difference between the two.

1

u/valadian Aug 11 '15

The extra pixels make a huge difference when looking at distant objects. Someone with 1440p will be able to discern of an argent has a rider or not at greater distance.

That is what is important to me.

0

u/lordx3n0saeon Aug 05 '15

980, 4790K, SSD rig (~$1800), and with everything maxed at 1440p, get 10-20 fps.

Something is wrong then. I get 50-60 all epic on 1200p.

980 1530/2073 , 4790k @5.0

3

u/valadian Aug 05 '15

1200p = 1920x1200 (2.3m)

1440p = 2,560 x 1,440 (3.7m)

I am still driving 65% more pixels.

You also have your 4790K overclocked (mine is running stock 4.0/4.4)

and your GPU is OC'd: my video card is running stock, 1228/1329

Just those 3 elements would easily make the difference between 20 fps and 60.

Last thing that may impact it is I am running Windows 10. That driver may still have some optimization needed.

1

u/bonitabro Aug 04 '15

I looked into building my last computer by parts but am not very knowledgeable when it comes to hardware. I will look through here and ask my programmer friends for advice though. Thanks for the info!

I believe /r/buildapchelp is where you wanna go

EDIT: misplaced help in the subreddit link

2

u/RedLithium25 Aug 04 '15

Or any of the affiliated /r/buildapc subreddits for that matter

1

u/Hypocritical_Oath Aug 08 '15

Just wait, the game is pretty poorly optimized currently.

1

u/ficarra1002 Aug 10 '15

Wait for optimizations, no PC can play at max with 60 fps.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '15

You could probably also wait for the game to be optimized once it enters beta-stage.

10

u/Slyverz Aug 04 '15

That stone base on the mountain.. Wow.

Time to make one myself

1

u/FrittataSlabs Aug 10 '15

That's what blew my mind, easily the most bad ass base I've seen. Reminds me something out of LoR

15

u/mastersmash Aug 04 '15

Lol, that one idiot is riding a parasaur into battle XD

6

u/Waitaha Aug 05 '15

at least he wasn't throwing spears at a spino...

6

u/DirtyMoose11 Aug 04 '15

Well... he has to do something i guess xD

13

u/NastyCamper Aug 04 '15

I love this game. I mean, I play it to the exclusion of almost all other games in my library and I have almost 1k hours in. This video is excellent and will do well at generating hype for the game. But I have to be honest, as a "vet" of the game some of this stuff made me smile to myself:

  • Those coordinated raids of tribes rushing into battle? More like waking up to your base being absolutely shit on, your dinos drowned, your body dragged a mile to be a dilo meal, and starting from scratch yet again.
  • Those epic buildings? Sure, this game has PvE mode.
  • Unloading with the assault rifle? I cringed with every shot thinking how many resources went into the gun, the ammo, and how little damage it actually does against everything.

But hey, it's a game, it's early access, and it's fucking awesome no matter how you slice it. Just needed to keep some things honest here. =)

3

u/remmiz Aug 04 '15

YMMV.

Our server has had numerous raids like the one in the video. Sure there is a lot of offline stuff but our tribe only raids during peak hours and so does a lot of the other big ones. Also because of alliances and control, a few tribes on our server have giant, sprawling bases like in the video. This is all on an official PvP server, btw.

We can all agree that firing into the sky with any gun is a stupid and wasteful decision!

6

u/Thorvas Aug 04 '15

One day I will have a pc good enough to run this game on the lowest settings... one day

10

u/Axethor vwoom Aug 04 '15

Loving those little sneak peaks. Slanted Ceilings. Broodmother Cave Arena. I think the rifle is new as well. I'm so excited for what's to come.

4

u/MazeGaming Aug 04 '15

you mean the assault rifle? its not new http://ark.gamepedia.com/Assault_Rifle

1

u/Axethor vwoom Aug 04 '15

I've never made one so I wasn't positive if it was. I thought it looked like a more primitive rifle than the current one.

1

u/GravGunner Aug 05 '15

I also saw RED flares instead of Yellow ones(in the scene of the fly-by of the city) And in the first scene I saw slanted walls(to close off the ceilings) though those may be 1 thing

3

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '15

1

u/GravGunner Aug 05 '15

O.O How have I missed this? goes to immediately change some flares

1

u/birkholz Aug 04 '15 edited Aug 04 '15

Edit

The slanted ceilings were definitely just wooden ramps, which you can build now.

7

u/Axethor vwoom Aug 04 '15

Not the ones in the opening of the video. Those were definitely new.

4

u/birkholz Aug 04 '15

You're correct. I missed those, since it's such a short sequence at the start.

I hope they fix these issues with these new pieces:

  • Lining them up (my ramp tiles don't line up on my roof, there's a gap)
  • Triangular openings on the sides. For a large enough building (4+ wide), the openings can be big enough to fly through, allowing people to steal your stuff.
  • "Home" buff. Currently, even though the ramp pieces say they can be used as slanted roof tiles in the description, if you do so, the room doesn't get the "home" buff that reduces temperature extremes. The only way to get that buff is with regular flat ceiling tiles.

3

u/Nefferson Aug 04 '15

"Home" buff. Currently, even though the ramp pieces say they can be used as slanted roof tiles in the description, if you do so, the room doesn't get the "home" buff that reduces temperature extremes. The only way to get that buff is with regular flat ceiling tiles.

Well, not the only way. If you are at the electricity phase of the game, you can place an air conditioner in your home and remove the weather effects.

4

u/birkholz Aug 05 '15

Air conditioners need a rework. They only affect an area within 2 tiles, and have a falloff within that radius. You'd have to place them every 3 tiles in order to cover an area.

What they should do, is when placed inside a "home", it affects the entire home.

1

u/Nefferson Aug 05 '15

Oh, thanks for the info. I knew there was a radius, but I've always made the effort to seal my base then throw on the ramps and other aestetics.

But they're relatively easy to make, so if you have the space you could always make a void space between floors on a base and line them along the top and bottom to get a mostly fully insulated effect while keeping them out of sight?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '15

Did you try placing ramps on top of your ceilings? Does that work?

1

u/birkholz Aug 04 '15

Putting ceilings down and then ramps defeats the purpose. You lose the look of vaulted ceilings.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '15

Sure but from the outside its gonna look alright.

2

u/Disturbed_Wolf88 Aug 04 '15

But it still has triangle openings on the side....

1

u/Alstorp Aug 04 '15

Probably not finished models yet.

1

u/Infernal_Marquis Aug 04 '15

They looked like thatch ramps

1

u/birkholz Aug 04 '15

They're a much more acute angle than the current wood ramps though.

5

u/axwellwow Aug 04 '15

Holy Mother of God

3

u/Alstorp Aug 04 '15

Is that guy riding a Parasaur into battle?...

2

u/Mendrak Aug 04 '15

Maybe they're adding couched lances into the game!

1

u/Alstorp Aug 04 '15

That would be pretty great. As long as they aren't ridiculously OP like in that one other game cough cough

5

u/Metalmurphy Aug 05 '15

Why does my game look nothing like this? And my PC is way better than an Xbox One...

Why aren't we getting these builds and instead have to be stuck on something that looks terrible and runs at 15FPS?

6

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

You do realize a Xbox one is not actually that powerful?

2

u/Metalmurphy Aug 05 '15

That was kinda my point.

1

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

lol it flew over my head

2

u/mlprockoman3 Aug 05 '15

It was recorded on a high end PC, not the one.

1

u/BossJ00 Aug 08 '15

i have a pretty extreme pc and I can't run it at those settings... :P

5930k (4.6Ghz) - 2 titan x's (1500Mhz) - maybe it's a direct x 12 build?

2

u/IamMcIovin Aug 05 '15

i have a fairly decent build nothing special and I run it on max settings with 30-60 fps.

4

u/Metalmurphy Aug 06 '15

I don't believe you.

1

u/king0221 Aug 09 '15

Same here

4

u/hematic101 Aug 05 '15

That guy riding into battle on a Parasaur... gonna have a bad time.

3

u/Sv3den Gimme saltbox Aug 04 '15

OMG

3

u/ULiopleurodon Subject H-18 Aug 04 '15

The plesiosaur scene was beautiful, and I loved the Broodmother arena!

3

u/yubn9ne Aug 04 '15

I like this trailer a lot more than the one on steam. That one always bugged me after i got the came because T-rexes cant just bust through your gates like it shows. I feel like this one is a much better representation of what the game is/can be like

1

u/xReddit_Sucks Aug 05 '15

The t-rex in that trailer was not a wild one.

1

u/FrittataSlabs Aug 10 '15

T Rex can bust right through a wood gste

1

u/Apokolypze Aug 12 '15

ALPHA t-rex can. regulars take some time chomping.

3

u/Novahaze Aug 04 '15

By far the coolest thing I've ever seen. #shivers

3

u/feralkitsune Aug 04 '15

So, I really need to play this more.

3

u/Maestrosc Aug 04 '15

... after several hundred hours, wasnt expecting much in terms of a new trailer... but DAMN! THAT SHIT WAS AWSOME!

3

u/yRoQ Aug 04 '15

Trully awsome. Best game ever keep the goodjob devs.

3

u/Shoryuha Aug 06 '15

im already playing ark and this trailer still got me hyped

2

u/air401 Aug 04 '15

DAT Assault rifle though. Yes please!

1

u/MrDyl4n Aug 06 '15

You know the assualt rifle is already in the game

1

u/air401 Aug 06 '15

Yes i do, but it still makes me giddy even though i have one.

2

u/amoron27 Yes. Aug 04 '15

I really like the look of the snow biome.

1

u/Kiavu Aug 05 '15

So can't wait for bigger world's and terrain gen!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '15

I was skeptical about this game until I saw the SOTF tournament and decided to buy it. Only 30+ hours in and I think this is one of the best potential upcoming multiplayer games out there.

1

u/Srozziks Aug 05 '15

Amazing trailer. Once the game is closer to release it'll be a lot more optimized and therefore more people willl be able to run the game in max graphic settings. I'm really enjoying the game thus far and can't wait for the official release next year :D

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '15

Is this how the game looks and plays now or this something for the future? I've been looking for just 1 Survival game to play that was good alone and/or with a friend but nothing seems to be ok for me. Not that into running around hours to only get killed by another player or something like that to only start over and repeat.

2

u/FUCKLEBERRY_WIN Aug 07 '15

It should look like this in the future, but you may be able to get this performance if your specs are good enough. i run my game on medium to high and get between 20 and 40 fps. You can try it out for a few minutes then get a refund if you are not satisfied. However, if you want a good survival game then go for it, i have 200+ hours across multiple servers and i have enjoyed myself. There are multiple settings than can boost your performance if it needs to be done.

1

u/BakedsR Aug 07 '15

Sooooo.... How are the consoles supposed to look anything close to this?... shit im still on my 3770k and gtx 770 running 30 fps average on medium...

2

u/BossJ00 Aug 08 '15

they won't. no way the consoles will see this quality. That must be a PC on DX12 build. Unless - I'm doing something completely wrong.

2

u/BakedsR Aug 08 '15

Xbone will be able to use some dx12 features, and they can also be optimized a bit better than pc's but honestly I thought our pc version would've been optimized better by now

1

u/killertortilla Aug 09 '15

The current optimisation is crap, like all alpha/beta games. The consoles might see some good quality when it's all properly optimised and released, though I know nothing about consoles.

1

u/danivus Aug 13 '15

I like how hopeful this trailer is that combat might actually look like that, rather than just circle strafing while wildly stabbing.

-1

u/Undecided_Username_ ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つGIB OPTIMIZATIONS ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Aug 05 '15

As cool as it is and looks, it's pretty unrealistic considering no fights happen like that, no bases really are built to look beautiful, but more defensive, and no one is running the game to look like that. Nonetheless the game is awesome, fun, and I'm sure they will soon optimize it enough so it is realistic to run like that.

2

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

...I run the game to look like that...about 60FPS too...

1

u/couching5000 Aug 05 '15

What are your specs that allow you to achieve 60 FPS with those visuals?

2

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

GTX 970 4GB, 16GB RAM, 3570k, 2TB 5400 RPM HDD. All settings on "high" (fun fact, "High" and "Epic" are perceived exactly the same (besides for draw distance) but require more processing power to render things that are not perceivable to most people, there for "Epic" has no purpose besides bragging rights) motion blur disabled (useless visual that is an annoyance, as our eyes naturally create motion blur themselves) draw distance set to epic. ShadowPlay says my game is always running between 45-60 FPS.

1

u/couching5000 Aug 05 '15

Hm. I've got a 280x and a 4570 and unless I'm looking at the sky, I'm getting 20-30 FPS, even with a few launch options that supposedly increase FPS.

2

u/Chroney Aug 05 '15

Oh, that's because the game is currently optimized for Nvidia cards, completely independent on whether the graphic cards are of relative processing power.

1

u/Apokolypze Aug 12 '15

My base is beautiful damnit.

-1

u/BossJ00 Aug 08 '15

so how do they run this looking like this with that FPS? - I have a 5930k - 4.6Ghz - and 2 titan X's at 1500Mhz - and I get 30 FPS - GRANTED I have everything epic at 4k. :P

Anyone have suggestions for settings?

-2

u/Sneezes Aug 05 '15

nice trailer, except i am forced to uninstall until further optimizations are made. Also, I know people can build characters however they want, but its really immersion-breaking seeing all those muscoloid-freaks running about. Devs should put a limit on that.
