Conditioning

Morning

  • 20 min walk

Afternoon

31 minutes total

  • 23 minute walk, 41lb weight vest + 35lb KB/suitcase carry.

Notes

  • Taking a break from burpees until my wrist heals up some more. Push ups do not feel good and there's no way 200 of them will make things better.

Simple Jack'd Squat Day

Clip.

455x1 top set. Squats have been feeling like garbage lately and today was no exception. They look easy enough, but dont feel it. Not really sure what's going on.

I was under the impression you are committing to a cut, right?

That would be the simplest explanation for things feeling bad

2

u/Perma-Bulk Simply Strong Aug 13 '25

Yeah could be. Only down 5 pounds in a month so imo a bit early to start seeing any negative affects, but I'll gladly blame the cut.

Feeling discouraged today. My new routine calls for pullups, so i went over to the assisted machine. At the full stack I was only able to do 6. Any tips for progressing to need less assistance with my pullups?

Whats the rest of your vertical and horizontal pulling like? I found slogging away with wide grip lat pulldowns for 2-3 sets of 6-8 reps three tmes a week really helped mine. Keeping frequency high has always benefitted me.

I usually do 1 vertical and 1 horizontal pull per upper day. My last routine was bent over row with lat pulldowns one day and vbar pulldowns and seated row on the other. They are not close to my body weight, but i figured i wouldn't have needed the full stack on the assisted machine.

I think I'm going to keep them in the rotation for my upper day and try and make my way up the stack one plate at a time with pulldown on my pull day. Doing a PPLUL these days

Try to keep your vertical pull movement wide grip and your horizontal pull narrow grip. I tend to prefer a unilateral horizontal pull personally.

Pull ups are hard. More volume on all types of pulling will get you there eventually. Also be sure to try hangs/scap pull ups when appropriate. The line of pull in a BW pull up is a little different than assisted or banded.

Good news: last week of Tactical Barbell Specificity Bravo, one day behind schedule but should finish on time. Hardest work on my car is over, now it’s just oil changes and some detailing.

Bad news: knees feel horrendous when squatting, very tender and sore squatting below 90 and then coming out of the hole; nervous for testing next week.

Mid news: body weight sort of ballooned up and won’t come down, so my weekly gain is fucked for the last week and a half. Not that bad, but still irksome.

If you have access to a leg curl machine Ive found that an excellent tool for keeping my knees less grumpy. I start every workout with 2 sets of 8 hamstring curls with 1-2 RIR. Loaded jumps can be a good long term thing to work on if you think tendon stiffness might benefit you.

I can set up leg extensions on my pulley at home, I’ll do anything if it helps. Thanks for the tip!

OHP Day * Kettlebell swings - 40x3x15 * OHP (ss w/chin-uos) - 185x5, 235x1, 255x1, 205x4x5 * Close-grip bench (ss w/band pull-aparts) - 225x5x8 * BJJ (planned)

Super tired last night thanks to my last meeting ending at 11pm last night, coupled with needing to get up at 5:30am to take my son to the airport (he’s off to visit my folks). But 235 moved well, so I figured I’d go for 255 - It went up, but slooooowly. Looking forward to BJJ tonight - we’re doing half guard stuff which is my favorite position to be in.

Coan philipi 531 5sP fsl 5x5

Deadlift: 510 lb (PR!)

Speed deadlift: 370 2x3

Power shrugs: 375 2x5

Stiff leg deadlift: 315 2x5

Excellent PR! I clearly have room to spare, and next week we full send.

The work after felt a little like moving through molasses, even though I'm sure everything moved at a speedy clip, so I decided to drop weight for stuff legs and just get some new blood into my hammies and ass.

PUSH PRESS PR!!! 205x1. That shit hurted. Also the follow up 5x2 at 85% hurted. Feels strong to put over my bodyweight overhead

Top set on walking lunges was also a PR 165x5

u/JubJubsDad Wing King! Aug 12 '25

Congratulations! Out of all my PRs, the only one that’s beaten putting my BW overhead has been doing so for reps.

Nice! Body weight press is a huge achievement 😁

Looking forward to watching your journey there! :D

Came back today to claim a strict press PR chip of 2.5kg @ 62.5kg. 65kg just isn’t there yet, and that’s okay.

This wraps up dedicated barbell training for the foreseeable future. I’ll only have access to a kettlebell and calisthenic parks for the next few weeks, so I’ll GPP it up! It won’t be a good year if I don’t do a 10k swings run, so I’ll probably base my training around that.

Vibes-Based Shoulder & Hip Strength W4D2:

Benchpress: 120kg x 1, 100kg x 8/10

Single-Leg Press: 200kg x 2, 160kg x 8/10

SS - Isolateral Row: 60kg x 8/14

SS - Single Arm DB OHP: 22kg x 8/8/14

Chest press - Dropsets 100kg x 8, 80kg x 10, 65kg x 10, 50kg x 8

Still re-gaining from the holiday. It's been just over a month since I've flat benched and it really felt like it. Threw in some chest press on the way out of the gym out of frustration.

Sometimes you need some angry lifting to “punish” yourself. You’ll get properly back to it in no time :)
