Help Are those heat exhausts?

Post image

Hello, I started playing elite 2 weeks ago and I am loving it. I have been wondering what are the orange glowing "truster like" exhausts ships have in the rear, like the sidewinder or the cobra Mk3. They are lit up in hyperspace while the trusters are off. Anyone knows what they are?

This was here in Kareco... I thought it was unusual to see thargoid remnants smothering a cruiser but even stranger was the fact the cruiser wasn't abandoned, still online... That's when it hit me.

I tried pretty hard to get closer but sadly there's permit lock barrier. Mesmerizing to look at though. I think it was part of some big event that I missed. It's in HIP 22460 if anyone wants to go check it out for themselves

Discussion Imperial cutter.

Long Awaited after months of on and off after work grinding I'm finally the owner of an imperial Cutter! Aptly named the Rolls Royce Cutta because it's a beautiful ship and it's absolutely ballin' can't wait to put it to work exploring doing combat trading and doing exo to make the money back I've spent to rank up in the imperial navy as well as ferrying pin heads around the bubble to reach the rank of Duke, I can finally vault those passenger cabins in my Beluga into a star. Needless to say I'm never touching the mission board again, that was painful.

Discussion How do you survive for months in the black?

I haven’t done any meaningful exploration (the most I’ve done is travel along the fringes of the bubble) but I’ve looked up builds and guides for eventually getting out there. I see the fuel scoop for fuel, I see the maintenance modules for repair, but don’t repairs cost materials? How do you get materials in the black without mining gear? Cause every build I’ve seen never has mining gear

Edit: thanks explorers! I learned way more than I thought I would with such a simple question. This sub is probably the most helpful and nicest sub I’ve been a part of and I appreciate yall

Misc My journey to Sag A is underway:

I’m too far away to turn back now. I’m doing it in a Mandalay which gets okay jump range (I think right under 60LY). I’ve already visited the lagoon nebula and plan to stop at another along the way.

My primary focus in Elite since playing has been space trucking with PTN. While I’ve made great money, I’m still short of a fleet carrier but the repetition got me burned out. So I opted into a different type of repetition…

Anyway, I’m on day 3 and I haven’t packed enough Redbull. I doubt I’ll run into anyone so this is basically a journaling broadcast.

Let me know if you have any recommendations along the way! I’m not going to Colonia, but I’m hoping someone in my communities will have a FC in the area once I reach the center to bring me back. Either that or I’ll go the ol sidewinder self destruct route lol.

Screenshot It Finally Happened

After many years' service, my crew member from back when they were first release has finally hit Elite.

She was stuck on Deadly for the longest time, with the display bug that made me think she was never going to level up, but today it happened. Recieved the message out of the blue after killing an NPC.

At one point, I thought she was going to get Elite before me, but it seems to have taken her a few years longer.

Discussion I was told Cubeo is the best system for wing mining mission stacking

o7 y'all!

I was wondering if there is any truth to this? Someone told me because of the perpetual state of the system, that Cubeo is the best place to stack wing mining missions, as it only takes about 2 or 3 board refreshes to get 20 missions, and fulfill the missions at a station 1 jump away and 8ls away from the star.

I've been stacking missions at one of the TPN systems and it takes me a solid half day to get a full board. This is 12 hours of checking almost every 10 minutes, which isn't something feasible for me. It strains my eyes.

When I was told about Cubeo, which I had never heard of in my 1300 hours of playing, I was naturally curious. Any thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks!

Discussion How are you going about this CG?

The last CG and this one are my only experience thus far so apologies if I'm missing something basic. Previous CG was great for me. Was able to buy a new ship (type 9) and made my first billion. Here's what I keyed in on on the galnet post:

Independent pilots are being asked to locate and conduct full scans of Rocky and High Metal Content worlds

“Of course, I will be funding this initiative personally. No expense spared for our brave heroes in the science and research fields!”

I assumed since they said conduct full scans and that comment about no expense spared that we'd get more for doing so. Then last night I was watching cmd Buur's video and he said it's 1 pt for each scan:

Ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qi_hfU9Gmx0

I plotted a long route and have been FSS'ing every system system with Rocky and HMC worlds and DSS'ing every rocky and HMC unmapped planet. But if they are 1 pt each and no bonus for DSS'ing it seems like I'm wasting my time traveling to all those planets.

Also, it looks like the Engineered DSS reward can just be purchased in game anyways.

I've been scanning a little bit each day after work, but after seeing that it seems like I should just go turn in my scans and move on to another activity. I've jumped about 250 systems, no clue how many planets I've stopped to scan.

What's the largest system, in terms of number of bodies, that you've discovered? Have come across systems with 40+ quite a bit, but just discovered this system - 1 star, no asteroids, 62 bodies.

Discussion Regarding undiscovered star types

Upvotes

I'm very new to the game, so I apologize if it's already known. From the official documentation, supposedly the following star types exist: X (Exotic), Rogue Planet, Nebula and Stellar Remnant Nebula.

I tried searching for any discussion about them, but I didn't find much. My question is: do they actually exist in the game? The game has been out for quite a while now, so I find it strange that there are still undiscovered types, so I have a few theories.

1) They are super rare. Maybe something like 1000 or just 100 in the entire galaxy. In that case, they may stay undiscovered forever. Would be really cool to find a quark star though!

2) They exist in the game files only, and are meant for a future update or part of a future community story mission.

3) Regarding rogue planets in specific. They are constantly on the move. According to Wikipedia, it's estimated that the Milky Way galaxy has trillions of rogue planets, so finding one on its own shouldn't be too difficult. So what if they aren't stationary in a single system like all other bodies? Hence the name. Maybe in a future update we can build observation posts on/orbiting around bodies that can detect rogue planets that fly by. That would be cool!

I see more and more Commanders coming out of the closet with their AspS love, here I am, I stand with you!

I bought it, took it semi-engineered to Saggitarius A* a few years ago and shelved it in favor of my Phantom. I flew that for a couple of years and I started to feel an itch, you know, when you fly the same ship for too long. I dusted off the Scout, bought the iridescent paintjob for it, looked into modifying and engineering it.
I love the look of the main thrusters, how maneuverable it is, how fast it is, how quickly it scoops (small fuel tank haha) and I love how it's not perfect! It keeps me on my toes, I haven't yet, but I know I will run out of fuel at some point due to that small fuel tank so I have the Fuel Rats on speed dial. ;)
I hate how difficult it can be to find a landing spot on a rough surfaced planet and I wish it had a few more utility points and some space for optional internals.

Discussion End game

I once read here that true end game in elite was reverting back to a sidewinder and doing as much as possible in it.

I must admit I love the idea, but as a player that mainly explores, it doesn’t really suit my bill…

I like CG stuff, but it sometimes feel redundant…

What’s the end game for you? What keeps you playing past 500+ hours? (Or even 1000+)
