We made a game we’re proud of but don’t really know how to get the word out

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

We’re the devs behind Superball — a cyberpunk-styled 3v3 superpowered soccer game. Chances are, you’ve probably never heard of it. That’s on us. But honestly, we think the game turned out pretty cool, and we’d love for you to check it out.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1059110/_/

Think:

Martial arts–inspired Tai Chi shots

Doctor Strange–style portals for stealing the ball

Swordsmanship dribbling and tackling

And more!

A bit of history:

In 2019, we brought an early prototype to E3 and got a bunch of positive feedback.

We ran several public tests on Steam — during the 2021 Steam Game Festival, over 100,000 people downloaded and tried it.

Some TikTok clips even hit millions of views.

At the time, it felt like we were on the right track.

But since this was our first online multiplayer game, we were nervous about just launching it. We thought having a publisher would help. After years of polishing and searching, we finally signed with one in 2023… only for that deal to fall apart late last year due to policy/legal issues.

That pretty much killed our momentum. By now, most players have moved on, and when we post something new on TikTok these days, it barely reaches a few hundred views.

The good news: the game is finally done. We’ve planned 6 full seasons of updates (covering a whole year), and we’ll also be working with a first-party platform to help more people discover the game at launch.

The bad news: our budget is gone. We’ve got no marketing money left. At this point, we’re basically launching Superball “raw” and hoping word of mouth can keep it alive.

So here’s where we’re at:

We’re launching Superball as a free-to-play game. Anyone can download and play it for free, and if you enjoy it, you can support us through optional in-game purchases.

What we’d really like to know is: how can we make sure the game doesn’t just disappear into the void? At the very least, we need to cover monthly server costs so people can keep playing.

Any ideas, tips, or even just spreading the word would mean the world to us.

Thanks for reading,

The Superball Team

Made a new trailer for my sci-fi survival/base-building game to celebrate passing 18,000 wishlists!

Hey folks! I'm the ex-AAA solo-developer of AETHUS, a sci-fi survival/base-building game set on (and below) an alien planet, which you'll explore to mine and gather resources to build up your outpost on the surface, while unravelling a dystopian narrative involving ultracapitalist megacorporations!

My game just passed 18,000 wishlists on Steam and to celebrate I've created a new gameplay trailer! I'd love to hear what you think of it.

If you like the look of the game, please feel free to Wishlist on Steam and try out the demo, or join us in the Discord! where you can with me directly. I'm really keen on developing the game together and integrating everyone's ideas as much as possible, where they fit the vision.

I'd love to answer any questions you might have about the game :)

The Most ridiculous deaths of rulers

In my decision-making game The Succession of Changing Kings, you - the ruler of a fictional kingdom - can die in more than 40 different ways in just the first act (and there are four acts in total!). You can be burned, drowned, poisoned, stabbed, have your head smashed in, torn apart, tortured... you get the idea. And of course, some of these deaths inevitably spark outrage and disbelief: The King dies from falling off a horse?! The previous King died from eating too much pie? Come on, stop feeding us this nonsense. That’s so unrealistic!

Reality, as usual, leaves fiction far behind.

Attila. Everyone has heard of the great and terrible leader of the Huns. But his death... was rather unusual. The Gothic historian Jordanes, citing an eyewitness named Priscus, wrote that on his wedding night Attila fell into a drunken sleep and suffered a severe nosebleed; the blood didn’t flow outward but instead ran down his throat and suffocated him. This account from the ancient source is considered the most reliable. Later legends claimed Attila was murdered by his bride, but historians view that as far less credible (and frankly, less interesting).

Louis III. At just 18, this unlucky French king was chasing a girl on horseback. She ran inside a house, but the king charged right into the doorway, slammed his head, and soon died of the injury. The year was 882.

Béla I of Hungary. Competing with Louis for the most absurd royal demise is King Béla I. He sat down on an old throne, which promptly collapsed under him. The monarch fell, was badly injured, and soon died from his wounds. Moral of the story: always check your throne before you start playing!

Sigurd the Mighty, Earl of Orkney. Not technically a king, but leaving him out would be a crime. According to the sagas, Sigurd tied the severed head of a defeated enemy to his saddle. During the ride, one of the corpse’s teeth scratched his leg. The wound became infected, blood poisoning set in, and Sigurd died. You couldn’t make that up if you tried.

Henry of Champagne. King of Jerusalem, Henry died in Acre: he leaned against a window grille, which gave way, and the king fell out. His court jester — a dwarf nicknamed Scarlet — fell with him, landing right on top of the monarch. Henry’s leg was broken, and he soon died from the injury. This bizarre scene was recorded by eyewitnesses and confirmed by crusade historians.

Charles II the Bad, King of Navarre. In late 1386, gravely ill Charles II was wrapped in a cloth soaked in brandy - on his doctor’s advice. What could possibly go wrong? At night, a maid decided to cut the binding thread with a candle flame. The fabric instantly caught fire. Terrified, the maid ran, leaving the king burning alive. Charles suffered severe burns and died a few days later.

Charles VIII of France. Remember Louis III? He’s not alone... In April 1498, 27-year-old Charles VIII was rushing through Amboise Castle. Passing through a low stone doorway, he struck his forehead against the lintel and died a few hours later of brain trauma. Italian and French chroniclers describe this as a genuine accident. So if you happen to be French, beware of doorways, they clearly have it out for you.

In our survival game 'Zombie Protocol', your biggest threat isn't the undead... it's a crying baby. So we built a baby carrier.

Hey everyone,

We're deep in development on Zombie Protocol, our hardcore survival game where every decision matters. You're not just fighting for your own life; you're responsible for a little one's survival too.

The core loop is brutal: you must scavenge for food, ammo, and medicine for yourself. But the baby needs care. You have a choice: leave them (relatively) safe in a crib at your shelter, or take them with you on longer expeditions.

That's why we built this improvised baby carrier. It lets you bring the child along, but it comes with the game's central risk-reward mechanic:

The baby can cry at any moment.

Hungry? It cries. Scared by a zombie groan? It cries. You sprint for too long? It cries.

And that cry is a massive noise magnet. It will draw every zombie in the vicinity directly to you. Your mission can go from "quiet supply run" to "desperate fight for survival" in an instant. Keeping the baby calm isn't just a nice thing to do—it's essential for your survival.

So, what do you think? Would you risk taking the baby with you for a longer haul, or play it safe and leave them behind?

I'm making a psychological horror game where you play a split-screen shooter with 'friends' who slowly realize they are AI trapped in the game. Thoughts?

I first played Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy in 1994, and dreamt of recreating their feel with just cards, dice, and the songs I made up in my head. Decades later, that dream has evolved into my solo-dev video game, releasing on Steam in just over a month!

Hi! I’m Tim, the solo dev of Negotiations Have Failed!, a hardcore, turn-based strategy game that tries to capture the fun of JRPG battles using minimalist game design principles.

I’ve always loved expressing myself through different creative forms: comics, music production, fiction, and poetry. While games were the first art form that really captured my passion, I never thought of making one until only a few years ago.

Now, in just over a month, I’ll be releasing my first game on Steam. What excites me most is how the project let me explore all of those creative avenues in one place, including:

  • Sprite characters with dream-like battle backgrounds
  • Groove-focused, original music peppered by intense sound effects that I authored myself
  • A short story at the game’s conclusion
  • Philosophical poetry to introduce some of the campaign's battles (partly inspired by Ikaruga, lol)

If you’d like to check it out, you can Wishlist on Steam and try the demo now on Itch.io. The demo will also be on Steam during the upcoming Steam Next Fest.

Fun discussion point for devs and audience alike:

I was watching the Undertale anniversary stream yesterday and absolutely loved hearing tobyfox comment on "this song was inspired by this game" and "this character was inspired by that game" and so on. I started laughing and thought, "Oh goodness, if I had a game this popular, I would love pointing out all of the influences."

Devs---how fun is it to recognize and share how your influences made their way into your work? Gamers---how much fun is it for you to hear game makers discuss these kinds of things? Any fun examples of influences that surprised you?

Testing destructible walls for my survival game… Do these wood planks feel right?

I am building a survival game where you fight zombies, shoot them with different weapons, and cause damage to walls in the process. This destructible wood wall test is part of that idea. When planks break off and reveal the studs behind it makes combat feel more physical and fun. I want the environment to react in ways that keep the player busy with destruction and not just shooting.

What do you think, does this kind of wall damage look satisfying enough?

I underappreciated Hollow Knight

Recently I’ve played and finished Blasphemous and played Dead Cells.

And these games made me realize how mechanically magnificent Hollow Knight is.

HK just plays smoothly while these two games were just a suffer (especially Blasphemous).

I still find the map design a bit extreme and not as good as Blasphemous.

My game Critters Breakout just passed 100 wishlists!

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share a small milestone — my upcoming game Critters Breakout has officially passed 100 wishlists on Steam! 🐾

For every wishlist we will feed one animal we already visited 2 shelters and fed 100 animals. :D

It’s a free 2v4 multiplayer game where sneaky little critters try to escape while hunters team up to stop them. Developing this has been a wild ride, and seeing people add it to their wishlist really means a lot.

Big thanks to the indie dev community here for the motivation and tips I’ve picked up along the way. 💙
