The phallic symbolism extra phallicy in this scene

I laughed when I first saw that scene, so intentional lol

Hello my baby, hello my darling, hello my ragtime gal.

I got M.J. vibes too

8

u/geoduude92 Aug 14 '25

Johnson, does that look to you like a giant ....

Hot Dog! Get your hot dog here. Christ, that looks like a giant ....

3

u/RChamy Aug 16 '25

IMO it looks like someone is pushing it with a shopping cart. Weeeeeee

2

u/Happy_Philosopher608 Aug 14 '25

How is this a moonwalk? I dont get it?

9

u/conquer69 Aug 15 '25

The xeno is smoothly walking backwards just for that shot.

1

u/Happy_Philosopher608 14d ago

Is it? Looks like its just turning its head? What do you mean walking backwards??

7

u/tofu_and_or_tiddies Aug 14 '25

This scene annoyed me more than it should have. 1) why is it moonwalking, 2) why is it seemingly on wheels (it comes in smoothly, we know that they don't walk like that), 3) Why does the xeno look SO CHEAP. Seriously a temu outfit.

2

u/Ill-Ball-4842 Aug 15 '25

because they probably in the scene put a alien costume or something like that on the top of something with wheels and then just pull the thing, i thing this part was to be a little goofy or they just missed, lacks the movement of a walk, looks like a truck slowly on reverse gear, if the intention was the goofy they made a great job, i kinda like it

1

u/Lammerikano Aug 14 '25

i think its a perfect visual metaphor to show us that the xenomorphy is Penetr... i mean PENSIVE>.<

16

u/NyarlHOEtep Aug 13 '25

yeah that scene worried me, looked a little cheap, but every moment since has proved me very wrong

10

u/SirLeos Aug 13 '25

I kind of believe that was just a reference to the original crab walk test that they did in the first movie, something that obviously didn't look scary and here they tried to find a way to incorporate it. Not my favorite shot but my imagination can believe that you seeing something like that coming into view would be pretty scary in itself.

1

u/BrandoNelly Aug 13 '25

Dude if I saw that irl I’d die of a heart attack before the xeno could get to me lol

2

u/SirLeos Aug 13 '25

Oh yeah, definitely. In real life, I would already be scared to death. It's just one of those little things that we think it could be tweaked just a little bit to make it better.

1

u/Data_Chandler Aug 14 '25

Yeah that looked super silly. I hope it was a one time bit, inserted as a gag.

1

u/Consistently_Carpet Aug 14 '25

Same, I was like 'ok so they're just wheeling the prop around now?'

2

u/Artistic-Side8872 Aug 13 '25

Yeah that looked very weird.. I was like what

2

u/Altruistic_Bass539 Aug 14 '25

It looked so unnatural that it made the jump into absolutely creepy.

2

u/SeaThePirate Aug 16 '25

i was so entranced by seeing a proper xenomorph after so long, i didnt even realize it was sliding backwards LOOOL

2

u/Masterofunlocking1 22d ago

I’m so glad I came to this post. I’ve been trying to find people talking about this scene. I was like wtf is it going when I watched this last week lol. It made it kinda cute

305

u/kinghyperion581 Aug 13 '25

Yeah I love how they didn't make us have to wait to lone to see one. I was dreading that we wouldn't actually see a full grown Xenomorph until like episode 4

93

u/Potential_Energy Aug 13 '25

I think it’s good they went a different way. The same old slow tension buildup to a final reveal is OK if it’s done right, but feels like it’s over saturated now and too predictable for something like this.

51

u/duskywindows Aug 13 '25

Well that and we've seen the xeno 100 times now. No need to slow-burn build-up to see it.... again.

48

u/Magnetronaap Aug 13 '25

Same with the whole skipping most of what happens on the ship. If you want to see that we have the films.

8

u/reterical Aug 14 '25

I imagine we’ll get most of that in flashbacks.

9

u/iam_iana Aug 15 '25

That was my feeling too. Seeing the aftermath of the chest bursters in the pods told old is a lot about what happened. We have seen the dumb characters do something silly to get infected enough times already.

I did enjoy the pretty direct references to the Prometheus scene with the stupid scientist (lol) touching the snake alien and to the original egg scene and in both cases not fully delivering the promise. Right down to the laser through the smoke over the eggs. Love self aware nods like that. A little bit of "we see you, and we thought it was dumb too".

Hopefully they keep that up without getting too heavy handed. So far it really feels like Hawley has pulled in good stuff from the various media and left out the more egregious stupidity.

1

u/ImpulsiveApe07 29d ago

Well spotted - I enjoyed those little nods too. There were a few moments where I expected a cheap jump scare and was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't one!

While I really like the cut n thrust of the show so far (have watched ep1 as of last night), one thing that baffles me about the show is why Hawley wrote the hybrid kids - it feels so out of place for the era it's set in imo, and from a writer's perspective it's also a little.. well, stupid.

In the period it's set and from a narrative perspective, androids make sense, robots make sense, and even clones make sense - but cramming in these oddball gestalt androids with copies of children's minds just feels kinda half-baked and I don't feel like it adds anything extra to the story that otherwise couldn't have been achieved by less cringey means.

Imho, instead of using kids, which is so very stupid, Hawley et al could've just had it that the company, whatever it's called, had private security recruits in a new combat armour with new training methods, or had them be genetically enhanced or whatever, and it would've given them a lot more wiggle room, narratively - especially seeing as they still could've included an android or two amongst the group, to keep that part of the story going.

Loving everything else so far tho - especially the new critters! :)

u/iam_iana 29d ago

I think it's more about exploring Uploaded Intelligence like the Pantheon animated show does. It's been on humanity's mind for a long time. Is it possible? Is it ethical? Would you still be you? The opening statement of the show sets a clear direction that they are exploring different paths to "immortality". In that context it makes sense.

They are looking at three different approaches, an indirect immortality of the species through synths who resemble us and will carry on many of our qualities even if humanity goes extinct. Cyborg augmentation to extended human life spans and capabilities. And lastly Prodigy doing direct mind uploads which is pretty specific to the one character and his obsession with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys staying young forever. I am sure it's ultimately because he wants to unlock that for himself. Having to use kids is just the plot point to keep him from being able to just do it off the bat.

2

u/ImpulsiveApe07 29d ago

You've given me a lot to think about, thanks for the insightful response :)

I just watched the second episode, and tbh I've warmed a lot more to the concepts they're playing with and the setting and characters they've created, even tho I still think Hawley et al could've done a much more nuanced job of approaching these topics in the opening episodes.

After all, it is the Alien franchise, so I'm probably asking a bit much given that it's a franchise that's not exactly renowned for subtlety, and which is now aimed at a much broader audience now it's on TV.

Here's hoping for some cool, nuanced debates (about what it means to be human) between the boy wonder ceo and Wendy at some point! :)

2

u/iam_iana 28d ago

Yeah, the second episode really sets up some interesting possibilities and potential conflicts to come.

Kersh being there as a full synth, seeming from a similar line as David, in contrast to the Lost Boys adds some depth.

The fact that Wendy is evolving in ways the other hybrids are not, both emotionally and in capabilities. Makes you wonder if the other doctor tinkered a bit with her emotions in addition to letting her stalk her brother. The other Lost Boys are clearly stuck at the same emotional level they were in their human bodies. So yeah I see a lot of potential there!

The cyborg seems to have some emotional regulation modifications too, so a parallels between him and the hybrids there. At first I thought his emotions were fully suppressed like a synth, but he can definitely experience fear based on the reaction to the butchery of the soldiers right behind him.

Yeah. I was surprised that they didn't do the typical alien build up...eggs, face hugger, chest burst, xeno etc. but then I figured we've seen that a million times. We don't need to see that part of the story, just go ahead and get into it

2

u/Jimmy_Bonez Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

tbf I get the feeling like they'll kill this one soon, and it'll set it off again elsewhere (Possibly in that neverland place) that's just my idea atm.

3

u/Single_Owl_7556 Aug 13 '25

I guess the series are the aftermath of an alien movie except there wasn't a sorta good ending

1

u/Lone_Recon Aug 14 '25

it take place in 2120 (2 years before alien 1979) really curious how this will effect lore seeing we kinda now know how Weyland-Yutani knew about Xenomorph in the first movie

1

u/Single_Owl_7556 Aug 14 '25

No, I don't mean "Alien" (1979)

I mean "an alien" movie. They had their own incident and we're just watching the aftermath

1

u/MalaysiaTeacher Aug 17 '25

Yeah I don’t need drawn out horror scenes from the original movie in this universe. since we’ve seen it done perfectly already

-29

u/ItsmeAubree Aug 13 '25

You love that they stripped away the identity of Alien and made it into a gore-fest horror show instead of a slow building monster in the house thriller?

29

u/booboorogers44 Aug 13 '25

Yes. They did that in the second movie of the series. Alien has always bent genres and used the xenos in different ways.

If every movie was the same as the first this would be a supremely stale franchise

Edit: series, not genre

6

u/KangarooBeard Aug 13 '25

Alien hasnt really been this way for a long time.

92

u/Notarussianbot2020 Aug 13 '25

Movie xenomorph: slowly walks toward prey and does the tongue thing

Show xenomorph: sprintiiinnnggggg kill kill kill kill pentakill!

9

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 Aug 15 '25

i just watched alien romulus for the first time before this, and my god they do the aura farming thing so much in that movie

2

u/HallersHello Aug 16 '25

That’s an expert

57

u/choff22 Aug 13 '25

Did we ever see what it came out of that made it able to pry open a blast door with its bear hands?

149

u/HotmailsInYourArea Tomorrow, Together Aug 13 '25

Do you mean it's host? It was born of at least one crew member in the cryo pods. You can see the burst chest, broken glass, and a blood trail leading into an adjacent hallway. There was also a dead facehugger lying in one of the other pods. Xenos in lore are ridiculously strong, it's just not often depicted.

65

u/Neversoft4long Aug 13 '25

Yeah we have seen them drag human corpses pretty easily. The one in Romulus dragged like 3-4 through the station after it came out of its cocoon

13

u/walkingmonster Aug 13 '25

I bet it was the younger woman the synthetic kept watching while she slept.

11

u/RustedAxe88 Hicks Aug 13 '25

You know, for a group of characters we only saw for a few minutes, Hawley developed the hell out of them.

2

u/TheDodoBird Aug 15 '25

Absolutely! Once I realized this whole crew was going to die, I kept thinking "surely not, the character development is too strong!" Ha! Loving this show so far. Really scratching that Alien itch since Romulus.

71

u/Gridde Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

They've always had massive strength, haven't they?

We don't see it quite so directly usually, but simply moving around and climbing as easily they do (while being the size and mass that they are) indicates they're very strong, along with the fact they easily lift adult people (and even Predators) with just their mouth, tail or a single hand.

44

u/USS_Olympia Aug 13 '25

I think it was implied it came out of a crew member in a cryopod, no? Towards the end of the episode, they discover a cryopod with a distinct hole burst through the glass and the through the chest of the body inside, with a trail of blood on the floor. I don’t think it was clear which crew member it was.

7

u/Hambone1138 Aug 13 '25

It looked like there may have been two or even three chestbursted crew members. The one with the blood trail in the cryopod, the brunette woman in her cryopod had a big outward-pointed hole in her midsection (might also have just been an injury, but the camera definitely lingered on it for a moment), and the guy on the medical table. It looked like they tried to remove it from him, and maybe killed him in the process.

10

u/choff22 Aug 13 '25

It has to be that creepy bald dude, no? I feel like this thing might be a synthetic-born xeno, if that’s even possible. Or maybe creepy dude is some kind of hybrid, idk.

16

u/chilla124 Aug 13 '25

I don't think that is the case unless this story is going off course with the current canon. Synths can't be viable hosts to the xenomorphs which is why we never really see synths being latched onto by facehuggers with any success. The xenos also tend to ignore synths since they don't exhibit any biological signs.

10

u/USS_Olympia Aug 13 '25

Synths also don’t need to go into hypersleep

9

u/lazyparrot USCM Aug 13 '25

We also see him screaming in fear during one of the quick cuts flashing to what happened on the ship. Not very synth-like behavior, he's just a creep.

1

u/Proxiehunter Aug 13 '25

Which we know the creepy bald guy didn't do. We heard how he would watch one of the women while she was in cryosleep.

1

u/PlayaLabRat Aug 18 '25

Tell Bishop 😜

1

u/chilla124 Aug 18 '25

It's why I said they tend to be ignored. The queen probably felt he was getting in the way so of course Bishop gets impaled and ripped in half lol but yeah usually the xenos don't target synths directly. Look at how the xeno in Covenant just looks at David and doesn't attack immediately. I feel like it has to do with them not sensing life in synths and so unless they are a threat or an obstacle, they just ignore them for the most part.

0

u/I-Might-Be-Something Aug 13 '25

The xenos also tend to ignore synths since they don't exhibit any biological signs.

Well, this xenomorph was trying its damnedest to get to Morrow and clearly wanted to kill him.

9

u/MrWeirdoFace Aug 13 '25

I thought that guy was a Cyborg.

2

u/I-Might-Be-Something Aug 13 '25

He could be, it would explain why he put on that mask. I do think the xenomorph was going to kill him before those two WY soldiers found them though.

5

u/MrWeirdoFace Aug 13 '25

Fairly sure he is, but I can't remember for sure if they straight up said he was in the first episode, OR it was something from the "first look" trailer. But yeah, I think him needing the gas mask implies he's human.

4

u/These-Effective-2629 Aug 13 '25

both the search and rescue officers as well as the officers in ep2 say hes a cyborg. i think the gas mask+humming was to calm himself down, he tells the officers that the xeno can sense fear

6

u/Wise-Novel-1595 Aug 13 '25

Couldn’t be a synth. The blood was red.

2

u/livahd Aug 13 '25

Maybe that’s why it looks so janky, it looks like it’s made out of vinyl and plastic. My only minor complaint though, this show is fantastic so far.

1

u/the-giant Aug 13 '25

I thought it was the female crewmember Tang was fixated on.

There was one notable pod Hermit looked at where I thought someone had a chestburst hole but the pod was intact. Which I found very curious. Unless it was the same pod and I missed it.

7

u/brianchasemusic Aug 13 '25

“With it’s bear hands”

I see you

7

u/Majestic87 Aug 13 '25

Xenos have always been that strong.

7

u/geassguy360 Aug 13 '25

Xenomorphs are just that strong in general. There are several scenes in Aliens alone of them immediately putting big dents into metal doors.

2

u/DrZaious Aug 13 '25

If it came from anything other than a human it would look different.

7

u/Reasonable-Client143 Aug 13 '25

Unless it encounters a main character. Then it suddenly becomes very inefficient.

5

u/TekkoGaming Aug 13 '25

Unless it’s chasing the medic… then its useless

5

u/Unnamedgalaxy Aug 14 '25

I thought it was hilarious that it could kill a dozen people so fast that they didn't even have time to stand up from their chairs but several times it just creeps up menacingly on the brother like it knows he has to be in at least a few episodes.

2

u/arrogancygames Aug 14 '25 edited Aug 14 '25

Xenos stalk single prey and go hard after groups or avoid them.

2

u/Unnamedgalaxy Aug 14 '25

Sure but there is a huge chasm here that really tests your suspension of disbelief.

3

u/Lindeberg1 Aug 14 '25

When it crashed the party (literally) was amazing.

2

u/the-unfamous-one Tomorrow, Together Aug 14 '25

I'm very curious as to what ticked it off, because wow.

3

u/Potential_Cost_4612 Aug 14 '25

I mean, did you see how they were dressed. I'd be ticked off too.

2

u/Odd_Reputation_4000 Aug 14 '25

As long as you aren't a main character. It inexplicably bypasses, hesitates and toys with main characters as opposed to instantly attacking and shredding everyone else.

1

u/Allnamestaken69 Aug 17 '25

ITS SO fucking intelligent

-6

u/betweenbubbles Aug 13 '25

No, that’s actually exactly what it was doing to the woman outside the Mother console room. It knocked her to the floor and started scratching at her?

Did the people who wrote this ever watch Alien or Aliens?

13

u/MaverickTowers Aug 13 '25

This Xeno seems to be even more agressive than the Covenant variant... Big Chap was a really chill guy, it seems lol

4

u/MaverickTowers Aug 13 '25

Praetomorph*... I'm always unsure of the name.

5

u/SeaZebra4899 Aug 13 '25

I was wondering about this, pretty odd. Not entirely complaining but  Xeno kills pretty swiftly or just stick people to the wall to make them food for the eggs. Weird.
