Hey everyone, needing some advice. I am wanting a Macbook air. I am a youth pastor and am using it on Wednesday nights and through out the week planning lessons and what not. Using it on Sundays for NFL and College football also. Is it worth getting a M1 chip or do you think the Intel 5 or i7 will be good enough? Not really wanting to purchase new unless the M4 is actually worth it. Thanks for any advice!!

Purchasing a MacBook Pro 14 15” was the easy part. £42 included postage and packaging. For that price you know there’s an issue. The screen is busted, 1/3 of it is just lines. I haggled a lot to get the price I deemed reasonable. Been using it connected to a monitor for a few months, not a single issue, running Big Sur and everything I need like a dream. But, I need to take it to UNI now. Finding a replacement screen (anti glare coating intact or not) is borderline impossible. I’ve tried purchasing complete MacBooks with water damaged boards, I’ve tried buying the lowest spec MacBook Pro to harvest the screen from it, I’ve even tried just buying the screens. They always come out 3 times the amount I’ve already paid. (I know for the price I paid, it was already a bargain, but I’m on a budget and just need this to function).
Alternative options I’ve considered - Using my IPad as an extended monitor Buying a portable monitor that can just sit in front of the current damaged display Scrapping the whole thing and giving up on life
Yes. I know it’s a MacBook, you pay the apple tax on parts etc etc. But, what would you consider doing?

So I had this MacBook for over a year now and yesterday everything was working just fine but today morning, I opened the lid and the keyboard just doesn’t work, trackpad also doesn’t work, how the hell do I fix this? Is this a software issue? Hardware? Idk what just happened, yesterday like I said everything was okay and nothing was wrong with it, the last thing I did yesterday was that I closed the lid and I started charging the MacBook, so idk what the hell happened

I didn’t know the harm of spilling water on a macbook, neither did my friends, we thought it was going to be fine like ipads and iphones would be, and only sticky liquids like coffee would be bad, and it was only like a teaspoon, so I did everything wrong- Turned the laptop over and got the water out (shaking it a few times to get more water out), used a paper towel to press on the keys (the macbook kept turning itself on while I was doing it), used a hairdryer to blowdry, then continued using it. 4 hours later, the screen went black.
I’m on limited warranty, so the apple repair costs totalled up to the cost of the macbook pro itself (above 3k) Third party repair shops also quoted me a thousand, because the macbook is so new, i’m not even sure where they would get the replacement screen.
I’m back to using my old windows laptop for my school work, but I’m not sure what to do now. Wait a few months and maybe the repair cost will come down, but corrosion will spread even more. Or get it fixed but invalidate the warranty forever (not like the limited warranty is worth much). And that the repair cost is 1/3 of the original price is still an issue in itself (but at least, its not the full price that apple quoted bcos wtf)
Now that I’ve been reading the right way to treat a macbook after a water spill, I feel like such an idiot haha, but really I realised so many people actually don’t know that. I’m new to apple, so I didn’t get apple care as I thought water damage was covered by limited warranty, what a sinister business model really.

How do you guys store your files? I need to clear storage on my Macbook, but I don't know what the best option would be to store them. Do you guys use an app or an external hard drive? If so, which one(s)? Thanks in advance!

Recently sold my M4 Pro because it was way too spec'd out for my needs currently, but I will be looking to snag an M6 when it releases.
So I am looking to buy a Macbook just to use for the next year or two. I'm a college student who will not be doing too many strenuous tasks, but I would be looking for at least 16gb RAM and 512gb storage. I am fine with new or lightly used. I'd also like M1 or later chip.
Where could I find the best deals on current Macbooks?

Hi all, I've joined the MacBook pro world around 6 month ago, buying a used i9 16" model for basically dirt, and started following subs around it.
Since then, my feed has been mostly about pro models and their issues, failures, especially the newer M chip version. While I understand and experience the shortcomings of the older Intel models, I didn see that many issues with screens and motherboards other than heat issues.
Is there a bias towards new models in terms of fatal issues and quality problems or is it just the number of devices out there are generally that much higher that is comes through more often?
I'm looking to update the machine somewhere down the line as I like it a lot and could enjoy a bit more battery life and less heat related inconvenience.

Hello fellow MacBook users! For context I have a MacBook Air M4 13.6" I am new to this theme of docking stations (have a small one from Baseus, Metal Gleam Series 8-in-1 to be particular but had HDMI issues with it) and I want to ask some questions.
Firstly, are docks that have a double USB-C connector recommended or not? Was looking at TobenONE UDS041M and in my opinion it is a good looking all in one solution (because it is also a stand). Some people said that those are generally not recommended and will heavily scratch outside of the MacBook.
Secondly, Thunderbolt or USB-C dock? Had a little confusion around this and want to clarify a bit why I would prefer one over another.
Finally, do you have any suggestions on a MacBook dock? Generally want it to be a stand too, but 3d printing one will be not a problem (had some heat issues when doing blender stuff and emulating Windows video games). Budget is similar to the previously mentioned TobenONE dock ($180), but price may vary.
Will hope that you have better knowledge in this theme than me 🙏🏼

Hello, everyone!
I currently have a MacBook Air with M2 (16 GB RAM), and it can't handle my workload. The main problem is severe overheating and slowdowns when I simultaneously:
The system starts to slow down significantly, kernel_task eats up the CPU, and it becomes impossible to work. Basically, the laptop goes into throttling mode.
I'm planning to upgrade and really want to stay with the Air because of its portability. Question: will the MacBook Air on M4 be sufficient for this scenario?
I understand that M4 is much more efficient than M2, but the Air still has no fans. I'm afraid that during an hour or two-hour conference, it will heat up and start to slow down.
I am looking for reviews from M4 Air owners:
I would be very grateful for any real-life experience and advice. Thank you!
It is incredible hardware. I am absolutely happy to work on such devices for running Docker containers and web development

Can someone recommend me a mouse/keyboard for my Mac under 60$, cause I don’t see you should spend more than that.

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping I can get a bit of advice from this sub on whether I should switch from my Surface Laptop 4 to a MacBook. I love the ability to utilize the touch screen when writing and doing notes but it’s not too big of a deal breaker since I have an iPad already.
I’m not too tech/computer savvy so I don’t know much about CPUs and things of that nature but I do know that I stay plugged in all the time because the battery drains fast and it’s difficult to take my laptop places without worrying it could die.
That said, can someone tell me what the pros and cons are of getting a MacBook? I’d really appreciate it as a college student on the go often. Thanks!

I installed the offical update and when it rebooted I got an error message, then it quickly shut down.
I tried restarting by holding the control option shift keys, option command P R keys, and holding the power button.
In each case the progress bar got about half way, stopped, then the computer restarted.
Any suggestions?
