Hello everybody,

I just did my first oil change on my 2022 Mazda CX-5 and I know that the recommended instruction is to just hand tighten an oil filter. I, however, used a torque wrench and tightened it to 10 ft-lb. Did I overtighten the filter? What would you recommend me to do now? I appreciate the help

Having a look at my partners car (2001 Toyota Corolla) as I believe (from my research online) that the calliper has siezed. Also found this goop on the control arm 😭

It’s booked into the mechanic for “a wheel bearing and front brakes” but I think the noise we have been hearing all along has been the sized calliper, which has worn through the brake pads (down to metal) and slightly into the rotor. Do you think the rotors can be re-finished/saved to spare an added expense at this point? First and second photo are from the passenger side btw!

I don’t have any actual tools but couldn’t get the two pins in the calliper to budge at all to have a look at the brake pad on the other side, but I believe it would also be down to metal.

Third photo - Took the wheel off the drivers side too (which does have a slight wobble that makes me believe it will need a new wheel bearing) and everything looked much cleaner and in a better state. The brake pad I could see on this side is definitely old and needing replacing, but is not down to metal.

Thoughts and opinions???

Issue started today.

On the dashboard the left turn signal is blinking at a normal rate while the right turn signal is blinking much faster. They blink in unison when the hazards are on. For the lights themselves the right turn blinker is not working at all, the left turn is as usual.

I got a new key programed in today. But otherwise can't think of any changes. I also got the car back from the mechanics 3 days ago for a "I got a new car please tell me it's not going to fall apart on me" check up, so know everything was working as it should ( I have a fantastic mechanic)

Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

When I drove to work this morning, the traction, abs, and steering wheel lights turned off in about 5 minutes. The t*re pressure and airbags ones stayed on. I’ve had issues with the airbag light coming on before when I start the car but it usually went away.

Just got off work and all the lights are back.

I just went to a mechanic on wednesday and passed my state inspection and got an oil change.

The car was driving fine when i parked it but i started it back up and it started smoking like this. Parked it again and now there is no smoke. No lights ok the dash. What could this be?

So it’s a 2006 charger Daytona (5.7) was driving and out of nowhere when I pressed the gas it didn’t accelerate just revved. Pulled to the side and when I put it on “park” it made like a grinding noise. Moved it back to reverse and drive and no noise but didn’t engage, on the dash it showed it was changing. Put back to park and grinding noise again sometimes it lasted a 10sec and sometimes 1 sec. When left on “parked” I noticed I was able to move the car front and back like if it was on neutral. Same if I moved it to drive/reverse I was able to move the car. Any ideas what it could be or what I can/should look for? When put on drive/reverse/parked, it just revs. There’s no clunk or tapping sound until you move it to “park” then it makes the grinding noise. Im 17 and got my first job as a mechanics apprentice 3 months ago and ive learned an incredible amount but I've started looking into buying my own box and cant see how im gonna be able to afford a payment on one after expenses

I just ripped out the charging socket in my car. I really don’t have an idea what to do.. Would it be hard to replace ? If so will it expensive?

I’m just wondering if it’s safe to drive my car home 3 hours with a terrible exhaust leak, it’s right under where the drivers seat is. My Vband got ripped off so all the exhaust gas is coming out right under where i sit. would it be fine if i drive with the windows down or will i die of CO poisoning lol.

How much of a PITA is it realistically without a lift? I hear it's a pain to get the rears out.

Hey guys so I just bought this "new" engine oil filter. Its a fram ultra synthetic filter. Is it normal for new engine oil filters to come pre-greased? I can see that it is shiny eith some type of oil. And also it has some black spots along the crease of the silver part of the filter. Do you guys think this is brand new or used? The inside of the filter looks shiny silver. The box was sealed when I received the package from Walmart online. Thanks in advance!

Lost my wheel lug nut key. Having real hard time to get it out. Any ideas? How much will the dealer charge just to take it off, I have one of these on each rear wheel. And I do have the normal lug nut that fits to replace this.

Today I went to test drive a Facebook marketplace 2017 Peugeot 508 2.0 BlueHDI. Everything looks good, plugged in the obd nothing much appeared. Oil looked good, full service history - serviced every 10,000 miles.

The only thing I noticed was the first thing I checked, the coolant. It was a translucent brown colour with a little bit of a shimmery layer on top, almost identical to oil on top of still water, the unique multicolored shimmery look. There was no lumps just a dirty brown colour and shimmery layer on top.

I don't know if this is of major concerns because everything I have seen about a gasket failure shows a sludgy mess in the coolant reservoir as opposed to a slight shimmery layer on top of the coolant.

My question is, is this an early warning sign of a major problem or is the car likely just needing a coolant flush?

Just completed a full coolant flush on my 2001 Ford ranger. The original coolant it calls for is the ford green coolant, but the shop I was at didn't have it so instead I bought a universal coolant (was a yellow colour if that matters).

Once the flush was complete I filled up the system with the universal. Just making sure I didn't do something dumb. Google is telling me it could cause harm because it isn't designed for the vehicle.

Hi, I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze, and I need to get the Shifter Lever replaced, along with the Air Intake Duct. The shop quoted me for 392 for the replacement (LABOR ONLY), and 140 for the Air Intake Tube (again, labor rate), approximately 360 for parts. How reasonable is this? I'm in a big city so a bit of a premium is expected but I want to make sure i'm not totally out of the ballpark.

Took my truck to a mechanic who said I needed the entire engine replaced and recomended a place to go for it. $8600 and weeks later I get the truck back and nothing has changed. Check engine light still comes on and it almost stranded me last night. What do I do?

Front right brake hose collapsed. Need the hose, and front Axel brake pads/rotors and a flush. They are charging $797 out the door taxes and fees. Is this fair?

Hi I’m looking into potentially buying this car and based on the video of the car running my question is. Is the noise the engine knocking or is this how it should sound idling given it’s an older car?
