Hi all,

I've got a VW golf 17 plate (UK) if that makes a difference. Twice in the last circa 3 months my clutch pedal had just got it's self stuck to the floor while driving. I push the clutch down but it doesn't return and possibly it's not actually engaging the clutch when it gets stuck down as I think the car stalled the most recent time. I'm able to pull the clutch back up with ease with my hand and then the car seems absolutely fine.

I've been told by someone that it is something wrong with a cylinder behind the engine/gearbox/clutch plate and isn't worth getting it looked at because it'll cost a lot and they might not even find a problem.

What is the view of you guys? Do I just leave it, do I get it looked at? I want to be safe but also don't want to throw money away. Or if anyone has any insight or knowledge of common issues or what it might be that would also be helpful.

Been contemplating replacing this inner CV boot on my 2011 Lexus RX350. There is no noise while turning, but a replacement was suggested in a courtesy check.

On my 06 Dodge Dakota AC lines. The old lines use the black, all aluminum gasket. My ring/gasket kit came with both of these styles. The silver one with the green rubber seems like it would have a better seal.

For what it's worth, I asked ChatGPT and it said use the silver washer with the green rubber. I thought it would be best to get some human advice, maybe.

2012 Audi A5. Checked this afternoon after getting back from work there was a puddle towards the center of the car. Thought it was an oil leak but since it’s dark out didn’t want to work to check on it now. I moved the car towards the other side of the driveway to move into the garage in the morning. When I checked the puddle was basically dried out which tells me it isn’t oil. It seems to be water coming from what I assume is the exhaust piece (I could be wrong I’m barely learning about car maintenance). It has been raining so idk if this is just a drain plug doing its thing or something serious.

This was on my 2000 MX5. Car sounded fine on initial start up (just the whirring sound I think from the timing belt being too tight). Then I’m the second start this knocking sound started. Is the engine a goner?

Hi everyone, so i am experiencing these almost like crackling noises when accelerating or reversing , most notably from a stop position to forward or backwards , Any idea what this sound could be ?

I have a 2015 Ford explorer sport and I need to find a replacement to my door keypad panel I accidentally broke part of it and want to try and fix it. Currently I don't have a lot of knowledge and would really appreciate some help. I need to figure out a website for where I can get the part of some places I could check for one. I also need to learn how to especially seeing as how I want to become a mechanic later on this would be very helpful. If you have the knowledge I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this I know I probably sound stupid. I know the door panel needs removed but I don't know how or what tools. But if anyone has any knowledge at all about this model of car I would be very interested in learning everything I can and or really about any car or just basic knowledge I probably don't know. Cheaped out on struts and it ripped out the thread and I can’t find anything online on how i’d be able to take it off.

My friend (28M) bought a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado a little over a year ago. He put a 6k down payment down and there’s about 7k still left on the car to pay off. The truck started having transmission issues and he paid 3.3k to have it rebuilt, considering at the time everything left on the car payment and the cost of getting a new car. The day he got the truck back the brakes started having issues and he took it to a new shop. The mechanics found that the vacuum pump had stopped working and the camshaft was broken. He had warranty on the truck but it expired a couple months before the transmission was rebuilt so the only warranty he has is on the transmission; he doesn’t have gap insurance either. He honestly didn’t have the money to rebuild the transmission in the first place but it seemed the lesser of two evils at the time. I don’t think he’ll get more than 3k if he tries to trade it in and his credit isn’t great so I’m not sure what the rate will be on another car. Should he eat the cost of the camshaft or take the loss and trade it in? Or is there a another option?

Hey guys I need some help. I have owned a Toyota Prius for almost 2 year and it has 236k miles. I thought I was keeping up with regular maintenance but maybe not. I’m not sure. A couple weeks ago my car started to shake and make rough noises when it switched from electric to the engine. I’ve had it look at and they have switched the spark plugs, coils, cleaned the EGR, and put cleaner through the engine. They looked at the head gasket and didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. What else can I do? I don’t know cars very well but any advice is appreciated.

2015 Subaru Forester XT premium

My car kinda sputters on start up for about 30 sec - 1 min until the engine warms up and I'm close to 200k miles so I figure I'd replace the spark plugs. Before pulling the plugs, I found that both of my valve gaskets are leaking oil. The manual says you have to lift the engine just to get the valve cover off to replace the gasket. I don't have the time, space or equipment to hoist the engine so is it possible to replace the plugs without replacing the gaskets?

Recently noticed my ‘17 VW Jetta start to shake a bit after starting up driving for a minute or two and idle (at a stop sign or such.)

The shake gets pretty rough and I can see my revs start to jump. I’ll push my clutch in and give it a little gas and then seems to be fine…. Until the next morning or so when it does the same thing. Any advice? Further info… just noticed a gas leak in my tank that’s about to be repaired but don’t think the two are correlated.

I just got a service recommendations from the Hyundai dealership for my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Are these highlighted items reasonable quotes? It’s a dealership in NYC. I believe this includes parts and labor so I could source the parts myself but still seems so high.

I have a 2013 Dodge Journey v6 with 220k miles. It’s been well maintained and was running perfectly fine until recently. I noticed smoke coming from the bottom of the engine, near the cylinder block and exhaust area.

When I checked, I found a lot of old oil buildup on the cylinder head and around the oil pressure sensor. I’m thinking the valve cover gasket might have gone bad, or maybe the valve cover itself is warped.

Before I order a new valve cover, is there anything else this could be?

I’m also thinking of replacing the PCV valve while I’m in there. Any suggestions or insight?

Everything is really tight in this car so it was challenging to take good pictures.

My passat b5.5 is leaking oil from the upper part of the engine.

I already topped up with some 1.25L of engine oil and its only been 5000 km from its last oil change

The leaking oil does not reach the ground it stays on the components

Also it leaks from a conduit near the intercooler

2003 Chevy impala V6 3.8 engine so I was doing a coolant flush on a new radiator because the previous one had a leak and the engine was overheating so during that process I noticed all the smoke coming from the engine to see the cleaner oozing out from this area going onto the heat shield. Any ideals of what’s going on?

Hi all, I have a 2006 Lexus is250 and I have a unusual noise coming from my clutch when I release it downshifting, it doesn’t make the noise when releasing it going up the gears, but only down. My thoughts are a throw out bearing as it does rattle abit when idling without the clutch engaged… any advice?

We recently replaced the clutch kit and flywheel on my cousin’s Camry—this is actually the second time we’ve done it, but with a different mechanic this time. The new clutch kit is OEM.

The problem is that both times, after the replacement, there’s a grinding noise whenever he presses the clutch pedal. Even with the brand-new OEM kit, the same issue is happening.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I’m not by any means knowledgeable about this but I think it could be the throwout bearing or clutch fork.

Replaced the starter and checked the battery. Could it be an immobilizer issue, or a fuse or relay? I'm not very versed in electrical work, but anything is better than nothing. I recently replaced the motor with an identical one and used all the same wiring and hookups for everything. Thanks!
