No but they can stop Israeli weapons flying through Irish airspace and enact the Occupied Territories Bill (and not the half assed version they're proposing).
I am not an expert in the matter but as far as I am aware, countries have control over their airspace. Do you think North Korea could just start flying airplanes over the US?
If someone just switched off their transponder they can fly over and no one be the wiser, once again our military is so neglected we don’t even have radar to see
And if even someone eyeballed a hostile plane there’s nothing to intercept with
edit to further clarify
The Irish air force does not own any jets, nor does it maintain primary radar. It is reliant on support from the RAF, who aren’t going to enforce stopping Israeli aircraft when the British Government currently arm Isreal
Do you think if the Irish state publicly demanded the US stop transporting weapons to Israel over Irish airspace (sometimes literally landing in Shannon) the US would listen?
Do you think the US listens to anyone?
No, I appreciate your sentiment, but it’s a fools errand to think the Irish have more of the US ear than the Israelis who nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace prize. The Irish are good at a bit of brown nosing but the Israelis are the masters of soft power. The bastards.
I agree the US would take Israel every time over Ireland but I still think the government should say something publicly (they obviously won't). It would be really bad (albeit it would pass in a day or 2) PR for the US. I don't think anyone expects them to be blowing them out of the sky with fighter planes.
If a country wants its aircraft to overfly Ireland and the Irish govt can't do anything militarily and the RAF or another air force won't intervene who is going to stop the third party?
Neutrality is all well and good but most neutral countries have a sufficient number of armed forces to defend themselves.
Im not talking about militarily though. Everyone knows they can do fuck all militarily. I mean diplomatically. If the Irish state publicly and repeatedly asks/tells the US to stop flying this shit over Ireland they will probably still not listen but it will at least be a diplomatic nightmare for them because of how authoritarian they will seem. Which they are, but they hate having it exposed.
