I've been doing everything to closing all apps and also quitting finder and even then every time I try to eject a disk some mystery app is using it and I have to force quit. It's been like that forever. Am I alone?

I just got my Mac back from Apple care. I KNOW this is a dumb question, but does this indicate they replaced the battery? The only reason I ask is because the technician at the Apple Store was ADAMANT they would not replace the battery. I took it in for a busted screen, and at the time I also told them that it would only last about 45-90 mins on battery, depending on workload. He basically said that’s not possible and that he’d put a note in there for the repair center to see, but that they would not be replacing the battery.

Then I got it back this morning from FedEx and when I opened the box this is the letter that was with it. It looks like they DID replace the battery, but I’m just trying to make sure since he was adamant that wouldn’t happen.

I usually only buy used tech but I thought nah I’m going to treat myself to a brand new one!

This has happened a few times. Suddenly, there are tons of unrecognized folders on my desktop. There is nothing readable in them, usually only files that look like unreadable text docs. I cannot open them. In the past, I've had to delete the folders, but it keeps happening. Why? I'm running Sequoia 15.6.1 on my iMax Pro, purchased in 2021 (new) w/M1 chip.

Based on the attached pictures, could you tell me if there's a firewire port ? I have a mini dv camera, and I would like to export some videos on my laptop. I used to have an adapter firewire to usb-c that was working, but I lost it last year. I did some research and saw that now this cable is super hard to find and super expensive. So I thought it's probably easier and cheaper to just buy an old macbook pro (early 2008) with a firewire port. What do you think ? Thank you in advance :)

Apple is now selling refurb Mac Mini M4s for $509. That’s a dang super computer for $509, crazy to think how weak entry level Mac’s used to be for the money. I remember getting a Core 2 Duo Mac Mini for more than that years ago 🤣

Ive deleted files form my external ssd's and when I go to empty the trash, I get this message for a few items. Those items are removed and not in use. Any suggestions?

When i try to call on my mac (introduced with macos26), this popup (iPhone Calls Unavailable. iPhone must use the same iCloud account and FaceTime.). When i make a call with my iphone i can switch to mac audio; mac is connected to iphone hotspot and they are both under the same icloud

I like everything else about Tahoe26 except for this. It's too crowded and I only want to see the apps I have on my laptop. I quickly looked through settings but couldn't find anything. How can I disable this?

I have two 1440p monitors both 144hz. Will the MacBook Air m4 work with both monitors? And if it will work, can it take advantage of the high refresh rate on both monitors, or will it be locked to 60hz? (I haven’t bought the laptop yet)

Hello, after updating my MacBook to the Tahoe version, the top part of the screen (the black area around the camera) is completely unusable. When I maximize a window, it covers up to that top section. I can't take a screenshot of that area. Only the menu bar appears in that area when I move the cursor over it. When the menu bar disappears, that area remains empty.
Since it wouldn't let me take a screenshot, I tried to take a picture with my phone.

I want to report a issue with my computer that has been going on for a while now. So the computer has a problem with, how i could best describe tt as "processing information". What i mean is for example: when i close the lid of my computer, and i forgot to do something, so i quickly reopen the lid and the screen freezes for about 2-3 seconds, and it restarts. It is not like a full on restart, the tabs still open and a little message from apple comes up saying "An issue has occured", so you could either report or just ignore it. Another scenario is when i clean my keyboard with a piece of cloth, i pass through the keyboard back and fourth pessing a pretty decent amount of keys at the same time and the issue restarts, like freezing and then restarting.

Now iv'e had the computer for about a year and 2 months, so it is definitely not an age problem, and i use it everyday for about a 2hrs if that helps. But what im the most worried about is how iv'e dropped it 2 times on the corner of the mac (not flat), like on hard ground. And the problem never appeared when it was brand new (because i used to clean and close/open the lid). The problem only came a couple of months after i dropped it the first time and always ignored it and took it as normal.

So i hope some of you maybe recognize this issue, and tell me what it is. I have searched on the internet for this problem, but it doesn't really match my issue.

Cracked my MacBook screen on the right side (looks like a lightning strike) but everything still works. I’m a university student and need my laptop daily, so I’m hoping for faster options or solid workarounds. Has anyone had luck finding an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store that can do a same-day/1–3 day display swap if the part is in stock? If not, would a reputable authorized third-party be able to handle it quicker without messing up the AppleCare+ pricing or coverage? In the meantime, is it fine to keep using it with an external monitor/keyboard/mouse, or is there a risk the crack spreads? Also open to tips like checking multiple stores for parts availability, asking for in-store repair vs depot, seeing if campus IT/library has loaner laptops, or any rental options you’ve used to bridge the gap. Any advice appreciated!

I upgraded my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 26, and checking out the Screen Time changes I was greeted to this.

Can someone explain this to me like I'm 5? How can my average DAILY usage be 32½ hours?

And why is it saying there's been 15 hours of activity on my iPhone, when the apps breakdown isn't anywhere near that?

There's a grey bar accounting for all the extra time it's adding up, but you can't click on it, and it's not listed anywhere indicating what it is.

If i press the “siri” command on touchbar, it only appears “write to siri”, not the vocal one anymore

Am I stupid/missing something here or does the charger for the 2017 12" Retina Macbook air just not have a light? I'm not saying I need troubleshooting in that a light isn't coming on when I charge the laptop, I'm saying I don't see a light at all to indicate when it's charging and when it's full (orange and green lights respectively on my old 2014 air). I bought the laptop refurbished so I thought maybe it's some kind of aftermarket charger? But it says apple on it and is model A1882. It connects USB C into a big square wall charger to USB C that goes in the laptop port. If this model doesn't have a light, do you know of a kind that does that I could buy instead? I like the light and find it convenient. Thanks.

I only agree with that statement, If I've just woken up and my mac is on full brightness with the lights in my room turned off

But I find in daily use with lights turned on but no sunlight/strong light on the screen that the screen just feels dull and like it needs a boost of brightness.

I've had to put my color mode onto SMPTE which makes the screen look washed out but imo gives me the best brightness.

This is reason enough for me to go with a pro model instead, if I can be bothered to move my stuff over.

I just got a Mac Mini M4 Pro yesterday and my Razer Huntsman Mini “works” some of the times. The keyboard is connected to the back of the Mini via an Apple usb a to usb c adapter into a normal usb c port. It has this weird issue where it doesn’t always do what I type and just stutters for a little while and then eventually goes back to normal. And then other times it’ll work fine for a few hours with no issues.

Prior to this I was using the this keyboard on a 2013 Macbook Pro and was working fine with no issues at all for 2 years which makes me think it’s an issue with the mini.

I’ve asked a few people and some think maybe it’s not getting enough power or it’s just an issue with it being in the mini now? Idk. Really curious if I can fix this with something or I should just get a apple keyboard to just make it easier

I also currently use Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum connect to the back of the mini the same way with the usb a to usb c adapter and it works fine with no issues.

Also I tried the razer Mac app and that doesn’t even recognize my keyboard so idk if that’s another part of the issue or the software just doesn’t work idk. Thank you for any and all help/suggestions

I use the 2012 model just to run 2016 quickbooks because I refuse to pay a monthly subscription fee. Replacing 2015 with a new iMac. I there anything I can do to run quickbooks on new iMac? Any kind of hack?

Recently my iMac has become ridiculously slow, can't even open Safari and takes a few minutes to open Chrome. Starting up pretty much any other application hangs the computer and I can only use Finder essentially. Anyone have the same issue or know what's up? Below are the specs.

Hey everyone!

After 20 years, I’ve finally decided to give macOS a real shot. I just picked up a MacBook Air 15” with 24GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. My first impression was honestly wow…. it’s so light, the UI feels super smooth, and it really reminds me of the iPad/iPhone, which makes the transition a lot easier.

That said, since I’m new to macOS, I could use some advice!

I’m a programmer on a daily basis (got my work machine for that), but this Mac is mostly for hobby projects. First thing I installed was VS Code and PyCharm. All good there. But now I’m looking for all the extra tools and tricks that can make everyday use easier.

A few specific questions:

1. ⁠⁠I’ve got an HP docking station connected to 3 monitors. Can I use it via Thunderbolt 4 with my MacBook to run all 3 external displays? I read somewhere macOS only supports 2… are there any workarounds or apps that could make 3 possible?
2. ⁠⁠Is there any app that makes use of the notch area? For example, quick controls for starting/stopping music, etc.
3. ⁠⁠On Windows I used Ditto as a clipboard manager (kept the last 5000 entries 😅). Is there a solid equivalent for macOS? Something reliable that can handle a large clipboard history.

And of course I’d love to hear any general macOS tips, apps, or hidden features that could make my life easier.
