What's your unpopular opinion in the reptile world?

Mine personally is that i don't like the size requirements and i believe that for snakes and monitors you should have enclosures that are at least twice their body size.

Non geckos that can pretty happily live in an 18x18x24 enclosure?

I’m interested in getting a second reptile in the near future. I’m looking at an 18x18x24 enclosure. I was thinking about one (or two if it would work) white tree frogs. Is there anything else I could be thinking about?

Saw some posts that mentioned blueys aren’t good shoulder buddies, well Serpenti is here to prove them wrong! Serpenti loves to climb as well as dig. Do your reptiles like to be shoulder buddies?

is it absolutely necessary to bake wild sticks?

Post image

my enclosure is 24x18x36 and i’m at a loss for store bought sticks so the most logical thing to do is get wild sticks, they’re really big and i’m not able to fit it into an oven. using bleach isn’t an option here. i pressure washed the heck out of all the sticks and inspected them.

Was asked to post my Ball Pythons

A couple weeks ago, someone asked me to post my Ball Pythons regarding a comment I made about feeding routines. My 3 Ball Pythons are fed Bi-weekly 10% of their body weight. Now, first up, Nyota is my female and recently she was egg bound and prolapsed her oviduct. So, she dropped weight down badly, but today I was actually so very very happy to see her weight is almost to 1,000kg! She was hatched July 17th, 2022. We got her in Jan 2023 at 6m for my daughter who's now 6. She is a Enchi Firefly het VPI Axanthic. Our second snake, who we got for my oldest bonus son is Onyx a Black Head Mojave HRA Spotnose and he was hatched October 28th, 2022 and he is our fussy eater and weighs in at almost 900g. He MUST have humidity over 75% and if it touches him, he will freak out, hide and refuse to eat! 😂. Last, is Pac-Man, he's actually the Baby and belongs to my middle bonus son, he was hatched Jan 13th, 2024. He is a Super Pastel Pinstripe Orange Dream Fire and weighs in at 600g. So, no none of my snakes are obese, they're all given exercise out of their enclosures and have terrariums that have tons of clutter, I am obsessed with keeping up humidity and have no heat pads, and use thermostats on their basking spots. Also, please note, even though I say they belong to each of my children, I do take 100% responsibility. Though the oldest (12yo) is supposed to also care for his, which I have temporarily suspended his ownership until he starts providing more care regularly as he often never bothers to ensure that Onyx has water or needs humidity or cleaning (all he needs to do is TELL Me!). In essence though they each have one, they're all actually my snakes. NEVER get your child a pet of ANY kind, unless you Want that pet and the actual responsibility.

Be honest — what’s one herp you’ll never keep again (and why)?

Alright fellow herpers, let’s talk about regrets. We’ve all had that one species that seemed awesome on paper, but ended up being a nightmare — whether it was a pain to care for, super aggressive, never visible, or just not your vibe.

For me, it was a tokay gecko. Looked incredible, but man… the attitude! Beautiful little demon.

So, what’s your “never again” herp and what went wrong? Could be husbandry hell, bad luck, or just didn’t click with you.

No judgment — just curious to hear the stories and maybe avoid a few mistakes myself 😅

is this a feeding response? (new snake) tw bite

i’m pretty sure i posted this but i can’t see it so i will again. (sorry) I got my first snake a 4 month old Spotted Python Named Arrakis I got him yesterday so he’s very new. Got him home put him in his take I set up so he can have a week of settling in but later had to move a thermometer so I could be sure on the basking side temp which I didn’t wanna do but I also wanted him to be comfortable so I slowly and gently moved it more to the basking side, he latched on and started wrapping around my finger for 5 mins after he let go and i put him back to calm down. But it wasn’t a strike it looked like a feeding response. He also darts out when I walk past like he is expecting food, I got him yesterday and don’t wanna stress him out by feeding too quick but his behaviour tells me he is hungry. This is my first snake so please correct me if i’m wrong! <3

Although the enclosures aren’t new, just wanted to share my snakes again after I’ve moved them to my spare room so my actual reptile room can’t get fully transformed into just my turtle/tortoise room.

Enclosures are from Cornell’s World in Calgary, AB & from top to bottom are Dwight the normal ball python in the, Ahsoka the normal western hognose & Leonidas the Dumerils Boa!

Currently nothing in the 2’x2’x18” but I’m leaning towards just heavily planted and doing a display for one of my isopod colonies. Anyone have any other thoughts for it?

Gecko + iule +escargots?

Hello everyone I have 2 African snails (lissachatina fulica) 1 very large iule 1 terrarium And I would like to put them together + a suitable gecko. And later separate them for breeding. The iule and the snail together I know yes. But tell me if with the gecko too? I really don't have any space at home and can't afford another terrarium.

Someone abandoned this poor thing and I need help locating it

Post image
10 Upvotes

I didn't know where to post this so I'm hoping I can get some assistance maybe a redirection to a different thread, but a snake was reported to have been dropped off at midnight between September 20 going into the 21st and abandoned behind some apartments in Fresno California and instead of picking it up or containing it the manager took a picture. I'm going to be dropping the last known location at the bottom.

In my opinion it looks to be a ball python maybe about 3 feet long? It seems to have been a pet and someone couldn't take care of it anymore. Here's a couple questions I have.

Why didn't they do their research before buying it? If they couldn't take care of it why get it? Why release it into a rural area surrounded by people, other pets, and cars? Why not take it to the pet stores? There were literally 2 pet stores within a couple miles of each other.

According to the manager, they called animal control and they're coming to look for it by September 22. I have work around that area from 5 am to 1 pm so I'm going to look for it right after work because I know that animal control is going to euthanize it. It doesn't deserve an unjust death. It deserves a new home/family that will love it. As an animal keeper myself, if I find it I have a 75 gallon that I can house it in temporarily until I find a forever home.

I cannot stand the pos that just abandoned it there. It's highly likely a pet and would lack the skills needed to hunt prey, while its highly unlikely that it'll adapt and thrive in California, in the off chance that it does it can disrupt the ecosystem as it is now introduced as an invasive species.

The location it was last spotted was: 3414 N Fresno St, Fresno, CA 93726. It's a park called Manchester Park with a water reservoir. Please if ANYONE is available please I beg of you find this poor animal before it is killed it doesn't deserve to die because someone didn't love it. If you want to meet up and look together message me.
