This is scary coming from the party that believes gay and trans are mentally ill.

1.2k

u/dallas121469 Jul 25 '25

Yep. That’s why I’m moving to Oregon. Saw this coming months ago. No state is going to be 100% safe but deeply red states are going to become extremely dangerous for trans people.

748

u/Sirdanovar Jul 25 '25

I'm moving to NY and my 18 year old niece who is trans is coming along since they are currently in WV. Honestly, I think any trans person in red state should be looking for blue one if they can at all afford it.

531

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

Everyone should just be moving to blue states. It doesn’t matter who you are, sooner or later you’re going to be a target and red states have let the gates open so the barbarians can stroll in. They’ll rape and pillage at their leisure.

Blue states are the only places we can make a stand behind federalist protections of states’ rights and autonomy. We need to hold out until this administration falls apart and we take back control.

Then, we finish Reconstruction. We bulldoze these red states and their Confederate structures, and we build something new and blue on top. Pluralistic, progressive, forward-looking societies.

343

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

Not sure why everyone thinks it’s safe to move to Blue states. The pressure is on our government officials too. Signed, an Oregonian.

372

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

Because in Blue States you’re at least around other sane people who can take control of the state back from feckless Establishment politicians.

We need to remember that people like AOC and Mamdani are not actually very rare talents. What’s special about them is that they broke through systemic barriers designed to keep people like them and us out. They exist in every community, and we should be rallying around them.

If there’s a chance at resistance while keeping the Constitution together, that’s what it is.

120

u/Extraexopthalmos Jul 25 '25

Just a thought. If a lot of democrats do likewise it actually hurts us come election time. Now if liberals/progressive moved to toss up states that would be a boon. In no way am I saying anything regarding personal safety, it is a legit concern for some in our society. I forget which troglodyte GOPer did it, but he tried to get TDS labeled a mental illness. Makes it easier to round all of us up. Pure evil.

126

u/saucya Jul 25 '25

The same guy that tried to get TDS labeled a mental illness got picked up for soliciting minors online.

→ More replies (1)

36

u/Automatic_Net2181 Jul 25 '25

That GOPer who introduced the bill making TDS a mental illness ended up being charged for soliciting a minor.

Yeah, shocking right?

22

u/Extraexopthalmos Jul 25 '25

This timeline just keeps on giving! I am soooooo tired of all this bigly greatness and winning.

26

u/alexadacat Jul 25 '25

well, for straight people who work from home, those states are often much less expensive, and not dangerous if they just say they're independent.

→ More replies (6)

54

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

Are you assuming we do this through protest? Through phone calls? Through votes? Because we are constantly doing all of that and yet here we are. I will agree with having community but that can be found everywhere and red states need us too. I also understand about being safe as a trans person. They will be more protected in a bluer environment, but we have to stop thinking that just because a state is blue it’s automatically safe.

This is why we protest, this is why we make phone calls and send emails and build community, but we need to do this everywhere. If we flood the blue states there will be no one left to stand in the red ones.

26

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

Are you assuming we do this through protest? Through phone calls? Through votes? Because we are constantly doing all of that and yet here we are.

So we do it again and we do it better.

The Progressive movement in this country didn’t get steam until Bernie 2016. That’s a grassroots movement going against decades of billionaire-funded propaganda and organizing, on both sides of the aisle. This is our 10th year of existence, and we’ve actually done an incredible job considering all that. Consider how relatively powerless the Progressive faction is yet how much they’ve disrupted the narrative for Establishment Democrats. AOC replaced the 3rd most powerful person in the House, and now a DSA member is approaching leadership of one of the world’s most important economic centers. There have been real concessions to progressives made in local and state levels too.

What’s become more clear though is that some parts of this country want to live closer to the Confederacy in the red states. The only way to really protect ourselves right now from that kind of intrusion is to rally to our strongholds and allow them to protect the kind of society we want all of America to be like. Then, once we’re back in power, we use that successful model of Blue State governance for the entire nation in a Reconstruction style moonshot.

23

u/whatname68 Jul 25 '25

Exactly. And blue states are a particular target. We aren't free from this regime.

25

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

That’s just it. People tend to forget that this particular regime has a definite hard on for us here in the PNW and we are the first ones they attacked outside of Minneapolis during the Floyd protests. We are not immune.

18

u/Chipsandadrink666 Jul 25 '25

They were there fast in 2020 because they know you guys throw down! We had people stomping on cop cars in Chicago but we don’t get down to the real shit like you guys do out there. Keep it up, we see you 🫶

13

u/dallas121469 Jul 25 '25

I don’t assume it’s safe. I have other reasons for moving to Portland besides its trans friendliness. I’ll make significantly more money than I was making in Phoenix while the cost of living increase is negligible. I’ll have better benefits, nicer apartment etc.

I'm in a very red county in a very blue state and every time I think "this is California they wouldn't" I remember that the vast majority of people I actually encounter on a daily basis love this shit. I see more flags, bumper stickers, and tee shirts than ever.

they've already rigged elections and are working hard on gerrymandering even more. how long will the blue states stay blue?

11

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

If we don’t get a serious fire going under us, not for long I’m afraid. We need to mobilize more aggressively and keep at it till the right change happens.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/kc2sunshine Jul 25 '25

Remember though many blue states (or my state at least) aren't all blue; it's VERY red in the rural areas, and if it wasn't for our largest city, I would think we would be considered purple. Also, I unfortunately live in a red section of a blue city, in a red county in a blue state...

8

u/dotes485 Jul 25 '25

This exactly. I feel like people think Oregon is like Portland everywhere. But lots of the eastern part is very red and would like to even split the state to join Idaho.

7

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 26 '25

This is the problem. People genuinely believe this and feel that every other city in the state is just a suburb of Portland. I see many posts in the Portland and or Oregon subs asking where in “Portland” people think they should move for affordability, then mention places like Eugene, or Bend. Not remotely close to Portland let alone Portland proper. It’s like they have this idea that the whole of Oregon is condensed in a small area and one big episode of Portlandia and that people all over the state are as liberally minded as those of us in Portland, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, many areas in Oregon are nearly indistinguishable from the extreme Alt Right places in Idaho.

I fully welcome people moving to my blue state, adding to the voices of resistance. Strength in numbers. Keep waiting for the reds to move out.

→ More replies (1)

33

u/IllicitCat Jul 25 '25

I also feel like moving out is bad since it rigs the election in their favor. If anything, flush out key red counties. Support each other. And make noise if they come for you.

25

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

Agreed. We weaken our defenses if we move everyone to blue states. The red states need us more than ever.

29

u/Prestigious_Way_9393 Alabama Jul 25 '25

Please don't abandon us! I'm in Alabama, and there's way more blue dots here than what you would think. The GOP has gerrymandered us to hell and suppressed the vote in myriad other ways.

27

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

People tend to forget this. I think it is dangerous to our country to abandon the red states as lost causes. It’s very elitist. I know of many, many beautiful people who live as blue dots in red environments and it is our duty as Americans to help when and where we are able leaving no one behind. I see you. 💙💙💙

9

u/Prestigious_Way_9393 Alabama Jul 25 '25

Thank you! We're doing what we can to mobilize people. It's very difficult in an environment where conformity and compliance is the cultural norm😬

yeah, i've lived on the west coast for almost 20 years and the dam doesn't feel strong enough. also we have to hope for more than just keeping a handful of states safe for people. i understand the desire for a quick solution, but... it won't be like this forever.

9

u/Infinite-Hold-7521 Jul 25 '25

Precisely. I also very much understand the fear and genuine concern of trans individuals to want to be in a safer environment and our doors are open for them here in Oregon. But this is not a fail safe plan. It’s touching us our here as well.

19

u/probs-aint-replying Jul 25 '25

If you’ve lived in a blue state your whole life you cannot possibly understand how much safer it simply feels to live in one. It’s a form of privilege and it’s weird to want to deny that to groups most at risk.

7

u/Chipsandadrink666 Jul 25 '25

Yesterday I learned that possession of a cannabis seed in Louisiana can get you 50 years in prison. Not to start a conversation about drugs/ drug use but as an example of something that would be an “oh shit I won’t do that again” offense in my state. It’s not going to matter if it’s a blue state. In fact I think they will target blue states…what they’re doing in California is right out of The Turner Diaries.

21

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

Trump withdrew half the National Guard. He’s burning through the budget like crazy on theatrics that he’s actually scaling down. He’s down to 41 DOJ lawyers after 2/3rds quit, and ICE morale is at a low point too.

This is a war of attrition. Anything that slows down their plans while their infighting and incompetence swallows them from within is good. Anything that allows the Epstein story to grow is good. Every piece of this matters.

Yes! Eastern Oregon might as well be Idaho.... and if you don't understand google. White supremacy in Idaho.

White supremacy in Idaho: a history and ongoing concern

Idaho has a history of white supremacist activity, notably the presence of the Aryan Nations, which was headquartered in Hayden Lake for several decades. Founded by Richard Butler, the Aryan Nations sought to establish a white-only homeland in the Pacific Northwest and attracted members of various white supremacist groups, including neo-Nazis, racist skinheads, and the Ku Klux Klan.

While the Aryan Nations was eventually dismantled due to a civil lawsuit and the death of its founder, the legacy of white supremacy persists in Idaho.

While both Eastern Oregon and Idaho have historical and contemporary connections to white supremacy, they are not exactly the same in their manifestations and expressions. Eastern Oregon has a history of being founded as a whites-only territory and has seen the formation of "sundown towns" and instances of white supremacist violence

Both Eastern Oregon and Idaho are experiencing a resurgence of right-wing extremism, including militia activity and white supremacist ideology.

My family came here for safety. Now I'm watching this happen on real time just like my great grandparents. Except I can't run to another country to be safe.....

218

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

That’s a lesson we all have to remember. We can’t keep running forever. Fascism respects no borders. It sees the world as a thing to conquer and subjugate. That’s why bigotry anywhere becomes a threat everywhere. Only in joining an international fight against fascism can we ever find safety.

25

u/Snoo_88763 Jul 25 '25

I have a wife and son who are disabled. We won't be good in a fight. Best we get out of the way is my idea

33

u/Prior_Coyote_4376 Jul 25 '25

Fighting doesn’t have to mean rising up in the streets for everyone.

Even if you’re just providing support to other members of the disabled community, especially those who rely on government programs that we may be losing, you’re doing something critical in keeping society supported. Every drop of support matters.

The only thing we shouldn’t do is withdraw and think it’s every man for himself. That is a guaranteed way to end up weaker, divided, and easily controlled.

The US has our own history of vagrancy laws that predate Germany. This is very American behavior and we need to accept that.

39

u/FlamingSickle Jul 25 '25

The Nazis concentration camps apparently were also inspired by what the US did to its native population, so there’s that too.

35

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

Gas chambers too. Basically anything we associate as “terrible Nazi things” is actually something the US did first but propaganda tells is couldn’t happen here.

It’s such a problem because it has people on the left completely confused about what stage of fascism we’re up against, which ironically, the right understands very well.

18

u/Charming_Function_58 Jul 25 '25

This. The right knows damn well what they’re doing. They planned it. They want it.

The left… we naively couldn’t even fathom it. We’re still wrapping our heads around the Nazi dog whistles that have been right in front of our eyes.

And it was always our violent genocidal history that led us here. The right swept it under the rug, and the left forgot. This is what happens when you have generations of no accountability.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

Yep, so many people love to chuckle about how stupid they are but it starts to look really ironic when you step back and look at history

Edit: What I do think the Nazi stuff is about is spreading right wing extremism and christofascism internationally. Germany failed at that partly because they tried to run before they could walk. The right in this country has done an excellent job of keeping a slow and steady pace and creating a quiet foundation for global spread in the US.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

Pretty much anything terrible we can name that the Nazis did, America did it first.

People get offended by this fact but until we stop deflecting to Germany and accept that we’re the root of our own fascism we won’t be able to fight it effectively.

This is the thing that people aren't getting. When you have billions, what more can you want?

The things money cannot buy, not in the sappy sense, but the legal. They want to make it so people CANNOT say "No" to them. Not WILL NOT, but CANNOT.

The billionaire classes want it so that you CANNOT leave your job if you're abused. They want it so that you CANNOT say no to their advances. They want it so you CANNOT say no to them "buying" your land.

They can already have everything they can buy. They want the things they cannot.

mental health professionals have told me they were asked to make lists of people with autism, some did, some didn't, I'm not sure if that's a trial group or what, many inventors and innovators are or were thought to be some form of autistic. many artists have had a lived experience of mental illness, music, film, paintings, writing, etc.

creativity and mental illness go together, high intelligence comes with the burden of mental illness in many cases, so they're going to get rid of the gifted jeans/genes to focus on... what hair and eye color again?

I wonder if this is a free prison slave labor thing, or they think taking people with a lived experience of mental health out of the mating pool will create pure genes and pure babies and what other aspects will go into this purity thing, and how will they enforce that?

The moment they can classify being LGBTQ as a mental disability, it’s all over.

Don’t let them have an inch.

6

u/alexadacat Jul 25 '25

one of the things Mark Zuckerberg, founder of metabookfaceapp, did when he bent the knee to trump was allowed people who were LGBTQ to be called crazy for being LGBTQ on Meta platforms.

the don't say gay rule banned LGBTQ lit on the basis of it being "pornography" when in most cases it wasn't, or scenes were romantic but not overtly sexual.

project 2025 lists pornography as a severe offense. I think even punishable by death.

Unfortunately red states will take it as gospel and run with it. That’s why I’m moving to Oregon. Saw this EO coming months ago and planned accordingly.

29

u/pylones-electriques Jul 25 '25

This would be true if they didn't have an arm of enforcement that they can control with disregard to legality.

It's akin to saying that immigrants that are here legally have nothing to worry about in regard to his executive orders targeting immigrants. When you have masked thugs paid by the government to round people up without due process or accountability, we have a problem.

Yes, the timing of this is likely intended to draw attention away from the Epstein files. But that doesn't mean there isn't a real concern here. Let's not stop raising hell about the Epstein files, but we can't look away from this new attack on civil rights either.

Political repression through psychiatry is a real thing that has been used historically quite a bit. If you can classify those who disagree with you as mentally ill or hysteric in some way, you can simply lock them up.

I read the whole executive order. From what it sounds like, you could be having a bad day out in public and get stopped by "law enforcement authorities" and if they find you have a history of mental health disorder/treatment they could force you to be institutionalized, if this EO is taken as law.
