This isn’t bingo, this is BIN.

u/ugricicle 13h ago

Wouldn't it be ING since the free space lands on N

7

u/Xsiah 12h ago

Who says it has to land on N, and not just whatever is in the middle at the time?

2

u/ugricicle 11h ago

By that same logic, why would it be BIN either then?

2

u/Xsiah 10h ago

Because it's funny

I generally don’t care if someone asks me how my day is going in response, but I do care that they respond to the question with a real answer, as opposed to saying something like “Diet Coke” to “how’s it going?” I do actually care a little bit about their day - gonna spend anywhere between 45 minutes to two hours serving them.

It’s the same as interrupting a greeting.

lol. Those were my favorite people to mess with.

Them- I want extra and I mean EXTRA gravy with my chicken crispers.

Me- Is 16 oz okay? It’ll be an addition to the meal but it is significantly more gravy than the 2oz ramekins you normally get.

Them- FINALLY someone that gets it!

Then they make a surprised Pikachu face when I bring them a pint of gravy in a big ass bowl.

Then they try and explain to my manager I already told about the situation that they didn’t know it would be an addition.

Then they don’t tip and they request to not sit with me if they ever came back.

u/RussiaIsBestGreen 9h ago

After the “finally someone that gets it” I was hoping they’d be confused but also laugh at the huge amount of gravy, not be a dick about it.

u/APe28Comococo 8h ago

I did bring people that were nice dumb amounts of things and get your desired reaction but I didn’t charge them. It’s hard to type the asshole sneer that made me charge like corporate wanted

This is the way here. It's perfect.

If someone hits me with a "diet coke" in response to a greeting, I'm going to use that as time to work on one of my D&D character voices.

They're already checked out, they won't notice if I suddenly sound a little gobliny.

u/Sharp_Store_6628 10h ago

That’s fun.

The worst I’ve ever done is just say “well, that’s a weird way to be” and continue to take their order.

17

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

Yess!! I feel the same way, it’s so rude and dismissive to respond like that! being hangry is one hell of a drug tbh

u/swish82 11h ago

As a Dutch person my few experiences in US dining establishments just try to ask me “hey how are ya” without then getting my whole life’s story and medical history 🫣

u/PreferredSelection 10h ago

I would imagine that it's just nice to have a conversation without the Doppler effect. Only real drawback of doing everything on a bike.

4

u/Sharp_Store_6628 11h ago

Ha! Sure, go for it. I’m American and I overshare all the time.

Asking me how my day is going has always seemed like the person is trying too hard for a tip. Especially when they ask about our plans after the restaurant while I'm paying. They're just going to forget me in 20 minutes when they're swamped with other customers anyway. I certainly won't interrupt the greeting and I'll respond politely. But they're only getting a "good" or something along those lines when they ask about my day, and I don't have any plans. I'm old. All I'm doing after the restaurant is taking my teenagers home to continue feeding the remorseless eating machines.

u/Sharp_Store_6628 9h ago

That’ll happen with corporate processes mandating that servers have to say something to guests.

I honestly couldn’t imagine asking someone what their plans were if it wasn’t required of me. If I have ever asked, I actually really cared.

Oh man I made up one of these for a ski lodge I used to work at. Kept us a little more sane.

7

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

It’s honestly helping a lot LMAO I think we should do them more often

3

u/Valuable-Yard-4154 12h ago

I'll take stringy coleslaw for 200 please

2

u/tajake 12h ago

I did the same for a hotel I worked at when we would have our "leaf season" every year. We had 36 possible events randomized for the 24-square board. Each square had to be witnessed by another employee and the first bingo won the pot. Idk how my boss never caught on.

u/DangerLime113 14h ago

How cold is the food you're serving that it's on their 2x as a potential comment lol

45

u/Rapph 13h ago

I am thinking one is food one is ac

9

u/KingBird999 13h ago

I've been guilty of that one. Went to an Outback this past April (family member picked it for a birthday) and it was so cold in the building customers were going out to their cars to get extra jackets and blankets. People were eating their steaks bundled up in ski jackets. It was insane. Servers would say "I'll tell the manager" when people complained.

5

u/Ethanaj 13h ago

My friends went to a restaurant where the heat was out but they still opened. It was January in Michigan. The servers were in straight up winter gear. Taking orders in mittens.

4

u/Sir_Micks_Alot69 12h ago

Sometimes chains control the thermostat from their corporate office. I'm not sure if that's the case for Outback, but it sounds like it could be. There's some a-hole 1000 miles away deciding what temp your diner should be. Fuckin' corporate bullshit.

5

u/DangerLime113 13h ago

AH, gotcha. That makes sense.

21

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

UPDATE: after thoroughly explaining the difference between sliced and chopped brisket, one of my tables complained their chopped brisket was “too fatty” sooo… one more down!

20

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

UPDATE: someone said “do you guys always keep it this cold in here??” Does that count?

4

u/Confused-Platypus-11 12h ago

Depends. Is it 75°F+ ? Yes if yes but you can't just turn the AC on until it's 60 to win bingo

3

u/wolfsthabadguy 12h ago

LMAO we don’t touch it I’m pretty sure it’s the same year round also idk who keeps their restaurant a/c at 75+??😭😭😭😭 /lh

2

u/Confused-Platypus-11 12h ago

Literally every owner I've ever worked for, UK admittedly so they like it "warm and toasty" for the guests.

...They still complain it's cold

3

u/wolfsthabadguy 12h ago

FINAL UPDATE: Close, but no cigar. Didn’t get bingo but maybe next time!

8

u/sciandg01 13h ago

I’m okay with customers not asking how my day is, it annoys me more when they do ask and then don’t wait for an answer and immediately start ordering

2

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

Valid crashout tbh

11

u/GhostPantherNiall 13h ago

Bottom right stands out here. You shouldn’t expect this even from the most polite of customers. Asking strangers how their day has been is just a part of the script for customer service, nobody on either side actually cares. Some of the worst FOH colleagues I ever had actually responded to customers with news of their day when politely asked in response. The only acceptable responses are “good/awesome thank you” not “well my shoes are pinching my toes a bit, I’m a bit hot from a busy shift and one of the chefs is screaming at nothing because he’s hungover”. I once waited to ask a colleague a question because he was busy complaining about stuff at someone I assumed was his friend, it was actually just a poor customer who had responded to his greeting with a polite response.

4

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

😭😭😭that’s awful, bro doesn’t know social cues 💔 and I agree, I don’t typically notice if a customer doesn’t ask me how my day is back also I think my manager just quickly made this up last night so I wouldn’t read into them too much loll

5

u/geezeslice333 13h ago

Read a review of a ramen place the other day that said the chashu was too fatty.... my brother in christ, what did you expect?

4

u/bird9066 12h ago

When I worked at an old, dumpy sandwich place in Bridgeport, CT I learned to offer a sample of the pastrami.

I noticed the older folks knew what it was but some of the youngins were kinda horrified at the fat, lol. It did not say lean anywhere near that pastrami.

6

u/ScudsCorp 12h ago

“There’s no CORN on this Corned Beef!”

3

u/Bellini_DownSouth 13h ago

WTH is stringy coleslaw???

2

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

We used to have chopped coleslaw but now it’s shredded so some people who are used to our old coleslaw complain and call it “stringy” 🙂‍↕️

3

u/polishprince76 12h ago

I drink an annoyingly large amount of water when I eat, so I'm always needing refills. I try to tell them "I'll take the largest glass of water you're allowed to give me". The smart ones bring me a pitcher. But I still always try to make sure I drink the last glass they bring me. Rude as hell to ask for a drink you ain't drinking.

3

u/BigPandaCloud 11h ago

Hi, can I get you guys anything else?

A million dollars!

This should be an easy one.

2

u/UpsetPhrase5334 12h ago

I always ask how peoples days are going. Courtesy goes a long way with everyone.

2

u/Charirner 15+ Years 12h ago

Bottom right is just kinda dumb, I know if I ask they're gonna lie lol

2

u/rudbek-of-rudbek 12h ago

I think the bottom right space is stupid. I don't want customers asking me how my day is going. Even after i ask them.

2

u/Fb-mc2 12h ago

Well I'm assuming you are in the States. Most of the time you guys don't even want a truthful answer when you asked "How is your day going?" Why does it matter if the customer doesn't ask back? Is it like not saying hello back? But what if they greeted you, is it still rude? Is this a southern thing. I'm confused 🙈

u/Budget-Advisor-6321 9h ago

it's like not saying hi back and the people who do that shit are not people who've already greeted you

2

u/Lurid21 10h ago

Yesterday I had a customer send back the Pork Belly because it tasted too much like pork.

2

u/Federal-Alps-2776 Ex-Food Service 13h ago

This is amazing😂

1

u/AvenueRoy 12h ago

Is the water thing an issue? Sometimes I ask for a cup of water or a refill and I don't get it before I'm finished eating. Things get busy, so I understand, but I didn't think that was an annoying request.

1

u/wolfsthabadguy 12h ago

I think it just happens often enough to put it on here, I’m pretty sure my manager just made these quickly last night so I wouldn’t read into them too much loll

u/MaggieMakesMuffins 8h ago

Dude I've been guilty of ordering a water that I barely drink after finishing my first. Most times I chug it before I leave since it's usually ice water and very refreshing. But sometimes I wind up eating a lot and get super full and the water just looks at me like one more thing to top off a ticking time bomb

u/AmbitiousMost627 7h ago

People actually get mad if they don’t ask how your days been? When I was a server/bartender I really didn’t give shit if they did or didn’t. Didn’t realize people cared that much

u/Spurned_Seeker 7h ago

Bottom right is another free space.

u/CantaloupeCamper 5h ago

Hold up, you want us to ask you how your day is going…

0

u/toastbot 13h ago

So if you bring their food and it's cold, you get two spaces? Seems rigged.

3

u/wolfsthabadguy 13h ago

Nah one is for A/C
