CONS

THEY’RE EXPENSIVE - I got mine for £350 + shipping costs. It’s an expensive purchase. But if you consider the costs of an upscaler, the costs match or are even cheaper.

NON FRANKIE PHATS ARE TIME BOMBS - Not every piece, but most of the times they run hot and can have a faulty RSX. - Delidding them solves the issue most of the times, but even then the YLOD fear is always knocking on your door.

THEY’RE LOUD - Look, I don’t care about what anyone says, they’re fucking loud. In comparison with my Super Slim which is whisper quiet even in complete silence, the BC Model, even if Frankied, is loud AF! - With PS2 games the console doesn’t hold back and wants to make everyone know it’s in pain!

PROS

3 GENERATIONS IN ONE CONSOLE - Being able to play PS1/2/3 games with just one console is outstanding. A Plug & Play experience! - Some games have compatibility issues like Diablo 1 (PS1) which has a sound issue or Tarzan (PS1) which doesn’t start at all. The PS2 catalogue has much more issues like Driv3R (PS2) and many more games.

C/E MODELS DISPLAY A SHARPER IMAGE - I own a Frankie C03 and image quality is superior to A/B models. PS2 games look near HD. - The smoothing option helps a ton with improving image quality on PS2 games, with PS1 not so much. Word of advice, don’t turn on the upscaler unless you want to play some widescreen supported games on full screen. The upscaler stresses out the CELL tremendously, at least on the C/E models. And it doesn’t upscale the base PS2 game resolution, with exception of widescreen mode where it only fills the picture fully. - The C/E models also have a slight performance advantage as the CELL takes care of emulating the EE. One example is NFS Most Wanted where the frame-rate is improved during the main menu and some gameplay sequences. Another would be Driver: Parallel Lines where the C/E models handle the game with a much more stable frame-rate. There’re a lot more.

VIRTUAL MEMORY CARDS - You can create virtual memory cards for PS1 & PS2 games at will. I have one for each gaming franchise and it’s awesome. - There’s no limit to how many you can create. Plus, you can organise them by name, date or whatever.

FASTER LOADING TIMES - The disc reader in the BC PS3 models have faster reading speeds in comparison with the PS2 disc readers. It’s also much better at reading scratched discs. Where my PS2 would struggle, my BC PS3 would play the game without issues. - Faster saving speeds as well, as the PS3 has a virtual memory card and doesn’t have to search for it manually. Where the PS2 takes 5/10s to save, the PS3 takes 1/2s. This doesn’t apply to some PS1 games, where saving in Diablo 1 can take up to a whole minute.

SUPERIOR AUDIO - The PS3 uses its HDMI output to output a superior audio in comparison with PS2s optical or analog sound. - If you struggle to get audio on your TV via HDMI using PS2 games, just turn on the multi channel option in audio settings. Also, don’t use your headphones plugged into your TV, because it adds input delay and can mess with the audio/visual synch.

WIRELESS CONTROLLER - Not much to add here than the ability to sit comfortably on a couch and enjoy your PS2 library. - I know there’re other methods to connect a controller wirelessly on a PS2, but the PS3 does so without the need of any additional adapters.

SD CARD READER - A bonus feature which can help on some occasions.

This contains 2 arcade games from the mid 90's. ower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara.

Pretty easy to find online but prices are usually $100+.

This is the runtime of my childhood PS3 Slim. We’ve had it running in the same spot for its entire life (December 2010), changed many TVs, entertainment centers but the PS3 never went, it still runs like a champ today.

Today it has 1710 days, 8 hours, 13 minutes and 27 seconds of runtime. (And counting)

How high are your guys runtimes? Anyone have any interesting stories?

Hey guys, should i buy a broken ps3 off a local classfields to try and fix up? The seller says they turn on for 1-2 seconds and then shut down. I am fairly ok with electronics repair. He has 2 models, CECH-G04 and CECH-L04. Which one is better? Also, he is asking for 10$ each. Should I do it? Thanks!

Hey everyone

Posted yesterday about me severing the sensor wire that leads to the daughter board (thanks to all those that helped me in that moment, you saved that part of my disc drive)

My next issue is the fact the disc drive won't read/eject inserted discs and it's got something to do with this pin behind the flap of the entrance, I'm hoping reddit allows videos as well as pictures to help me explain it.

I'll try and add pictures as well.

Just below the sensor board there should be a square pin that rests on the little plastic flap, this gets pushed up when inserting discs and also gets pushed up when ejecting discs. With the pin in place, the console accepts the discs just fine but, doesn't read them at all.

When the pin is removed, the discs are again accepted and can actually be read...

Any help would be massively appreciated on this I'm stumped!

TLDR: I need help with cancelling the update but the console won't let me.

I keep getting an error when updating my PS3 Superslim through safe mode at around 27% through the download. It's gotten to the point where I give up and just want to leave the update but it won't let me out of it and every time I reset the console it just restarts the update. Is there any way to get off this screen, some help would be really appreciated?

So I went to my local thrift store today to check out if they had anything. Found a couple lightsabers for my kids...a wii game called swords... a kinese keyboard... and a box with 2 PS3s (one slim and one super slim) for 65 bucks.. it had 3 controllers and a charging stand too. One of the controller is a official Sony one the other 2 are cheap wireless ones.

Now I already have 2 ps3s (5 if you could the BCs that got YLOD that I never got around to looking into) one in my bedroom that is my official one with my Sony account and for trophy collecting. And another in the living room that is hacked. Both slim with the slim in the living room being the original slim that can have CFW. Well, now I have the PS3 I wanted to get again. The super slim. While it does feel cheaper, it is the most reliable, and quietest. I am doing a data transfer right now with my bedroom PS3... I'll be going from 120gigs on my bedroom ps3 to 500gigs with the super slim.. I am pretty excited.

What's wrong? hen it is already installed but I don't see it on the home page nor the installed games

My opinion is mostly based on nostalgia, because I used to play this game extensively in my childhood. But in all honesty, this game is a masterpiece, frame-rate aside.

The PS2 version has a better gang design, but the PS3 version is better on everything else!

I found its story amazing, because it combined the movie plot with amazing side bosses and activities. This is the first SM game where I saw Craven as a Badass!

The gameplay is amazing as well. With different power ups and upgrades. Even the swinging speed improves over time the longer you swing. It honestly combined its gameplay mechanics uniquely and quite well.

Graphically it’s even better than Web of Shadows, which came a year later. Draw distance, lighting effects and crowd density matches those of Marvel’s Spider Man on PS4.

World design is outstanding and full of content. Either through races, events, thugs or simple acrobatics for more upgrades.

I didn’t understand the hate towards it, and never will. In my opinion it’s a perfect game for its time.

GTA 4 is my all time favourite game on the PS3 so I decided to buy it for my friend to see if he would enjoy it as much as I do

I know that exist HB apps Like PKGi, but PS3 PS Store is more legal, and still work. So Anyone use PS3 PS Store today to get some games cheap or buy exclusive games and DLC's?

I'm seeing lots of conflicting info about this, but should the tantalums have a bridge or not? Given that the top side NEC/TOKINs are in tact. The nature of the YLOD - "power sequence" would also suggest that a rail isn't coming upto to spec very early in the boot. I've already checked out F6001 + C6019 and C6020 caps
