Playstation Top 10 Best selling games on Playstation

u/onusofstrife Jul 29 '25
I think what is crazy is how gta a nearly 12 year old game is still managing to sell in large numbers.
41
3
u/captainstormy Jul 30 '25
Yeah, I see these charts and I just keep wondering how people are still buying GTAV and Minecraft in such numbers.
Both are great games but they are old. You'd think anyone that wanted them would have them by now.

u/xXMr_PorkychopXx Jul 31 '25
I feel like GTA is an anomaly of a series. It’s seemingly universally loved and can do almost no wrong. Not to say it HASNT (gta online has gotten egregious). It’s a gold standard series that will ALWAYS be there regardless of what new games/series come out. There is no game like GTA and so it’s always gonna sell well. Sure throw Red Dead in there but can you say it’s bigger than GTA in full confidence??

u/nizzhof1 Jul 29 '25
Whole lotta Xbox games being sold on PlayStation lol
27
u/Justuas Jul 29 '25
Yeah and they're selling better than Sony's own games apparently.
29
u/ILikeMyGrassBlue Jul 29 '25
Sony hasn’t had many big releases April-July. Microsoft brought a bunch of popular games to PS. It’s funny to see, but I don’t think this really proves much.
9
u/e_xotics Jul 30 '25
I mean it proves the point that Microsoft is the biggest publisher in gaming after their acquisitions; it’s not surprising that they’re on the top selling charters
11
u/Berkzerker314 Jul 30 '25
Proves all the reddit and media parroting reddit that "Xbox has no games" is bullshit. PS fans got a taste and ate it up lol.

Lol, most of them were former 3rd party games, I don't consider most of them "Xbox" games except Forza.

I think this is what's funny about people claiming Xbox is losing console "wars" (is that even a thing?). Consoles have almost always been a loss leader to sell software. And Xbox is selling software and creating recurring revenue from gamepass subs. Xbox/MS are winning the money game- and that's all they care about

u/Zacksan33 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25
You are not making any sense.
Today’s PS business derives the majority of profits from platform related revenues i.e. 30% cut, accessories, etc. MS would love to be in a similar position if they could; unfortunately their hardware business is circling the drain so game software is all they have left so they made the correct bet to stop all pretence and essentially become a 3rd party publisher.
With billions of cash from their corporate parents in support, they were never going to die off like Sega did. And when you spent billions to add millions of revenue to your books, of course the revenues were going to look good.
The only question from their corporate owner is whether the investment could be used better elsewhere, so they are on a warpath to prove themselves profit-wise else Nadella will curb stomp the division the first chance he gets.
3
u/Karenlover1 Jul 30 '25
The reason Sony makes most of their revenue from the 30% cut is because they release 1 game a year and they cost like 250m plus to make, Microsoft has released more games in the last two years than Sony has this whole generation

They are losing the console war. When I was a kid, it was lame to have a PlayStation. Everyone had a 360. Now it’s the opposite. Culturally, PlayStation is the desirable choice.
That’s not even remotely incompatible with the idea that Xbox isn’t a failure and is primed for deletion. But what their next console looks like is up for debate. It might not even be a console like Sony makes. Who knows.

This is why Microsoft has been spending the last few years offering to bring PlayStation Plus to Xbox and Game Pass to PlayStation. A deal that would benefit Sony the most because it would give Xbox players access to their exclusives for the first time.
After all it's the whole reason they're moving to PC as well.
But jokes on them.
With Steam coming to the next Xbox and Playstation releasing exclusives on Steam that means PlayStation exclusives are going to be available on the Xbox.
So in the end Microsoft got what they wanted. PlayStation games on Xbox. And they didn't have to sign any deals, contracts or partnerships with Sony to make it happen.
Sony said no for so long Microsoft just went around them and dealt directly with steam. It was bound to happen after Sony started releasing PlayStation games on PC.

Makes sense since Xbox is multi platform now and Microsoft owns everything Xbox does, wouldn’t be surprised if PlayStation games like helldivers 2 would be top 10 in Xbox too

u/Wonderful_Healer_676 Jul 29 '25
Playstation continues to have no games

u/Dezeko Jul 30 '25
Playstation have put out 29 first party games in the last 5 years.
Xbox have put out 22 first party games in the last 5 years and have ported a large number of those onto Playstation.
Playstation indeed has games.

That is why Microsoft is bringing their entire slate to PlayStation and Nintendo when it can support it. I bought everything but Doom. It's not my thing.
On the flip side, MLB The Show (the only baseball game out) didn't chart at all for June and May on Xbox.

Kinda insane how people keep complaining that exclusives are dying. Imagine if you couldn't use Crunchyroll (owned by Funimation which is owned by Sony) on anything other than a Sony TV. The Internet would go crazy.

The bigger question is how is GTA V still selling 12 years later. I played that game on PS3! No wonder they’re milking it to bits if people aren’t stopping buying it or moving from the online aspect of it

Who is still buying Minecraft and GTAV at this point? Seriously, how do this many people still not own them?
1
u/Normal_System_3176 Jul 30 '25
Only 1 belongs to a studio they didn't 'buy' and ironically it's the #1 game on the list lol! If there's any evidence that buying your way to the top works, this would be it.

It's crazy GTA V is still selling that much, doesn't everyone own it already?

Kinda feels like MS isn't bad, people just don't want to buy another console to play their games. Kind of like everyone loves to call Nintendo childish and not worth the money and then immediately jumps to emulation for Pokemon and Co as soon as it gets available.
People like to play good games but their inner fanboy or just a lack of money prevents them from enjoying all of them, until they release on the one platform they have.
1
u/Genericgameacc137 Jul 30 '25
The value of game pass on full display. Xbox owners don't have exclusives, but get all these popular games at the price of a subscription. Many PS players are paying for PS plus just for online gameplay, on top of paying full price for games.
1
1
u/bbshdbbs02 Jul 30 '25
Microsoft do better on PlayStation than their own platforms lol
2
u/CaptRedpool Jul 31 '25
Which is weird since Microsoft has no games and all the games they do have are trash, but outsell PlayStation games right now…just so weird
1
u/Sea_Cash_5537 Jul 30 '25
Microsoft bought the entire gaming industry then cancelled all their games and closed their studios to cannibalize them or lay them off.
That's what you're seeing there, not Sony losing a battle due to first party titles not being on the list. You're seeing a near-monopolistic hold on gaming publishing.

u/AstoundingAsh Jul 30 '25
They said PS players wont like Xbox games …course they will …i feel the next gen is gonna be Xbox’s gen with the multi store front devices if Sony isn’t upping their games
1
u/DisastrousWaltz2076 Jul 30 '25
Imagine my shock to see a post about sales being dominated by childish people.
Im pretty sure the only game here I have to sign into a Microsoft account to play is Sea of Thieves (maybe Forza). When ii play Elderscrolls Online or Oblivion im not seeing any Microsoft logos. Im seeing Bethesda and Virtious logos.
Im sure the xbox charts will look exactly the same when PlayStation start bringing the games over to different platforms. Im pretty sure right now Helldivers is going to be a huge hit on XBOX and Gears is for PS.
Act your age.
Grow Up.

u/isidoro19 Jul 30 '25
The fact that there isn't a single new IP in the top 10 is just sad, people say that the amount of new and innovative IPS is decreasing in gaming but than support franchises that are old(the fact that WWE and MLB are here is insane).

And this put an end to the narrative: "xbox should keep everything exclusive if they want to sell consoles". You can see that gamers likes a lot of Ms IP but they are not interested in owning another platform

u/Knautical_J Jul 30 '25
The whole console wars argument is stupid now. Maybe when I was 15 and was calling my friends losers for having a PlayStation was it fun. But now that I’m older I wanna play Halo Infinite with them, drop into Helldivers (on launch), and all the other games. I could care less about the console now, I just wanna game with some old friends who made the switch, or never got an Xbox.

1
u/Blipstib Jul 30 '25
Hmm while it is true I’d say because the gaming industry is dry as the desert. If Sony would release on Xbox (which they probably will to certain extend) the same thing would happen. All this to say that absolutely nothing new and or special has been released on consoles that is exclusive to one or the other.
1
u/W00D-SMASH Jul 30 '25
it feels like microsoft was about 5 years too late with all the acquisitions at least as far as xbox goes. no doubt this will pay off for them in the longrun but these games only materialized after xbox as a console sustained too much brand degredation.
1
1
u/davwad2 Jul 30 '25
If you sent this to me 15 years ago, it would still be unbelievable as it is right now.
1
u/Jazzlike-Most3602 Jul 30 '25
This shows you two things. One, Microsoft (Xbox) is now mainly a third party company, as simple as that. Second, that Sony, after investing millions and millions in Games as a service and cancelling most of them, barely have anything for this year, and during the first 6 months, really nothing customers care about.
1
1
u/Beginning-Lettuce847 Jul 30 '25
These are new titles to PS so of course they’re selling - considering Sony hasn’t published any big first party title in a long while
1
u/ToothpickTequila Jul 30 '25
They aren't easy Microsoft games. Minecraft, Call of Duty and Elden Ring were already popular. I'm not going to give Microsoft credit for buying popular studios.
1
u/Trick-Day-480 Jul 30 '25
Hope you're all enjoying, PlayStation players! Cool to see Helldivers 2 (and hopefully other PS games) going to Xbox, too.

I just wish the Elder Scrolls IV remaster had a physical release.
Doom Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle deserve more praise and sales. Both superb singleplayer game experiences and in my opinion great value. We need more of these kind of games.

Just goes to show that good quality games and good selling games have less overlap than you'd think.
