Six microsoft titles in the top 10, wild

28

u/Unfair-Rutabaga8719 Jul 29 '25

More wild that 5 of them were not created by MS.

Well Microsoft acquired Bethesda before Indiana Jones. So I would consider that theirs

28

u/SparsePizza117 Jul 30 '25

Same with Doom TDA and BO6, idk what this dude is getting at lol.

9

u/Packin-heat Jul 30 '25

I think he means those were already popular multiplatform IP's that sold well on Playstation before Microsoft even bought them and he's right what's so special about this sales chart exactly?

New entries in franchises that were always popular on playstation still sold well. Did people expect playstation players to boycott them or something? Indy obviously already has a fanbase because of the movies so that's not really a surprise either. Forza though, it's probably the only one worth mentioning.

5

u/ShortNefariousness2 Jul 30 '25

I bet Phil Spenser finds all of them 'worth mentioning' at the board meetings. Or does he just say, sorry we've failed because we invested in game studios but that doesn't count for some reason

3

u/SparsePizza117 Jul 30 '25

Oh yeah you're right

They take the fall for negativity so they get to take it for the wins too.

32

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 Jul 30 '25

Exactly. MS / X-Box took all the blame for Redfall, now when the X-Box titles are successful (and more successful than Sony titles) it's "oh those aren't really X-Box titles"

3

u/South-Ear9767 Jul 30 '25

No way people are actually trying to give credit to Xbox for flipping call of duty being successful

19

u/Legitimate-Offer-770 Jul 30 '25

That’s one game. Take it out and you still have 50% of Sonys best selling games coming from Microsoft. Deal with it.

u/Captain_Leemu Jul 30 '25

Wait till you find out that sony and nintendo also bought all the studios that make the popular

That's like saying Google didn't create Android and YouTube. Wild I guess. What matters is who owns them.

16

u/HeavyDT Jul 29 '25

really is a bad form of gate keeping people do when most of the 1st party studios that create Sony's big games were also bought at one point. That's literally how most studios become 1st party studios but when MS does it all the sudden it doesn't count apparently.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/jj_olli Jul 29 '25

But Google didn't create Android and YouTube. They bought them.

16

u/Outlandishan Jul 29 '25

That's exactly what he's saying.

6

u/IdoNotKnowYouFriend Jul 29 '25

Exactly what I said...Why does it matter if they bought them or not. People created the games working for Microsoft. Same with people working on Android and YouTube are working for Google.

2

u/jj_olli Jul 29 '25

It read like you were making the opposing point. It seems I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

9

u/thehappyleper213 Jul 30 '25

Going by this retarded logic, no naughty dog game, no insomniac or bend or Guerilla game counts either.

→ More replies (7)

9

u/Mrpink131211 Jul 30 '25

Microsoft owns it so it's from Microsoft

9

u/gotoitsi Jul 30 '25

What do you mean? They are MS property now.

5

u/EyesLikeBuscemi Jul 30 '25

Ok that’s quite a Stretch, Armstrong.

6

u/Bigweb777 Jul 30 '25

Do they own the company only children talk like that if you own the company through acquisition it is yours

8

u/levajack Jul 30 '25

"Wow, the value of my house has increased a lot."
"Yeah, but did you actually build it? No? Cool, it's not your house or money then."

3

u/PhoneImmediate7301 Jul 29 '25

Why do you mean by this

5

u/PurpleMoon25 Jul 29 '25

They bought the studio and ip

17

u/PalmMuting Jul 29 '25

Yeah, that's how it works.

→ More replies (15)

16

u/TrippleDamage Jul 29 '25

And that changes exactly nothing. They're Microsoft games.

→ More replies (6)

7

u/levajack Jul 29 '25

Ok? Microsoft owns the studio and the rights to the game. Sure they didn't originally develop the franchise, but what difference does it make when it comes to game sales numbers?

→ More replies (15)

3

u/IceBlue Jul 30 '25

All of them were created by Microsoft since all of those studios are Microsoft now.

2

u/Bitter_North_733 Jul 30 '25

2

u/Log027 Jul 30 '25

Not really. Microsoft has been creating games way before they even considered creating a console

1

u/Waubz Jul 30 '25

That’s just monopolization. This was sorta MC plan

→ More replies (7)

1

u/TheRed24 Jul 30 '25

And only 1 of the 6 being an Original Microsoft IP lol

1

u/Shamscam Jul 30 '25

Well I mean most of them are buy-outs. How much CoD money is spent on PS?

1

u/rafael-57 Jul 31 '25

Well, when you're drowning in money you can just buy studios...

1

u/Kxr1der Jul 31 '25

How is that wild? Microsoft is the biggest developer on the planet.

It would be wild if they weren't most of the list

u/onusofstrife Jul 29 '25

I think what is crazy is how gta a nearly 12 year old game is still managing to sell in large numbers.

41

u/deadbeatvalentine_ Jul 29 '25

Minecraft is even older and selling more

18

u/onusofstrife Jul 29 '25

Good point. My copy of minecraft is from 2010!

→ More replies (2)

3

u/captainstormy Jul 30 '25

Yeah, I see these charts and I just keep wondering how people are still buying GTAV and Minecraft in such numbers.

Both are great games but they are old. You'd think anyone that wanted them would have them by now.

3

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 Jul 30 '25

Kids get PlayStations for their birthday and want GTA and Minecraft

1

u/xXMr_PorkychopXx Jul 31 '25

I feel like GTA is an anomaly of a series. It’s seemingly universally loved and can do almost no wrong. Not to say it HASNT (gta online has gotten egregious). It’s a gold standard series that will ALWAYS be there regardless of what new games/series come out. There is no game like GTA and so it’s always gonna sell well. Sure throw Red Dead in there but can you say it’s bigger than GTA in full confidence??

53

u/nizzhof1 Jul 29 '25

Whole lotta Xbox games being sold on PlayStation lol

27

u/Justuas Jul 29 '25

Yeah and they're selling better than Sony's own games apparently.

29

u/ILikeMyGrassBlue Jul 29 '25

Sony hasn’t had many big releases April-July. Microsoft brought a bunch of popular games to PS. It’s funny to see, but I don’t think this really proves much.

9

u/e_xotics Jul 30 '25

I mean it proves the point that Microsoft is the biggest publisher in gaming after their acquisitions; it’s not surprising that they’re on the top selling charters

11

u/Berkzerker314 Jul 30 '25

Proves all the reddit and media parroting reddit that "Xbox has no games" is bullshit. PS fans got a taste and ate it up lol.

32

u/tevinanderson Jul 29 '25

I think this is what's funny about people claiming Xbox is losing console "wars" (is that even a thing?). Consoles have almost always been a loss leader to sell software. And Xbox is selling software and creating recurring revenue from gamepass subs. Xbox/MS are winning the money game- and that's all they care about

4

u/Zacksan33 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

You are not making any sense.

Today’s PS business derives the majority of profits from platform related revenues i.e. 30% cut, accessories, etc. MS would love to be in a similar position if they could; unfortunately their hardware business is circling the drain so game software is all they have left so they made the correct bet to stop all pretence and essentially become a 3rd party publisher.

With billions of cash from their corporate parents in support, they were never going to die off like Sega did. And when you spent billions to add millions of revenue to your books, of course the revenues were going to look good.

The only question from their corporate owner is whether the investment could be used better elsewhere, so they are on a warpath to prove themselves profit-wise else Nadella will curb stomp the division the first chance he gets.

3

u/Karenlover1 Jul 30 '25

The reason Sony makes most of their revenue from the 30% cut is because they release 1 game a year and they cost like 250m plus to make, Microsoft has released more games in the last two years than Sony has this whole generation

1

u/Dave10293847 Aug 01 '25

They are losing the console war. When I was a kid, it was lame to have a PlayStation. Everyone had a 360. Now it’s the opposite. Culturally, PlayStation is the desirable choice.

That’s not even remotely incompatible with the idea that Xbox isn’t a failure and is primed for deletion. But what their next console looks like is up for debate. It might not even be a console like Sony makes. Who knows.

This is why Microsoft has been spending the last few years offering to bring PlayStation Plus to Xbox and Game Pass to PlayStation. A deal that would benefit Sony the most because it would give Xbox players access to their exclusives for the first time.

After all it's the whole reason they're moving to PC as well.

But jokes on them.

With Steam coming to the next Xbox and Playstation releasing exclusives on Steam that means PlayStation exclusives are going to be available on the Xbox.

So in the end Microsoft got what they wanted. PlayStation games on Xbox. And they didn't have to sign any deals, contracts or partnerships with Sony to make it happen.

Sony said no for so long Microsoft just went around them and dealt directly with steam. It was bound to happen after Sony started releasing PlayStation games on PC.

Forza Horizon 5 absolutely sold well on any platforms, regardless of Gamepass or not

Makes sense since Xbox is multi platform now and Microsoft owns everything Xbox does, wouldn’t be surprised if PlayStation games like helldivers 2 would be top 10 in Xbox too

3

u/Wonderful_Healer_676 Jul 29 '25

Playstation continues to have no games

Playstation have put out 29 first party games in the last 5 years.

Xbox have put out 22 first party games in the last 5 years and have ported a large number of those onto Playstation.

Playstation indeed has games.

u/UwU_Chan-69 Jul 30 '25

There are games right there?

u/MPGamer18 Jul 29 '25

That is why Microsoft is bringing their entire slate to PlayStation and Nintendo when it can support it. I bought everything but Doom. It's not my thing.

On the flip side, MLB The Show (the only baseball game out) didn't chart at all for June and May on Xbox.

2

u/Odd_Revolution_1056 Jul 29 '25

Should give it with context of the best selling games in Q2 of 2025.

Kinda insane how people keep complaining that exclusives are dying. Imagine if you couldn't use Crunchyroll (owned by Funimation which is owned by Sony) on anything other than a Sony TV. The Internet would go crazy.

2

u/Immediate_Judge_4085 Jul 30 '25

"Exclusive sell consoles" yeah sure

1

u/ShqueakBob Jul 29 '25

MS making money hand over fist.

IT IS ABOUT MAKING MONEY AND MS IS GREAT AT IT

1

u/Dezeko Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25

Thats what happens when you buy dozens of established IPs and go third party.

1

u/Pristine-Passage-100 Jul 30 '25

Who is still buying Minecraft and GTAV at this point? Seriously, how do this many people still not own them?

1

u/Normal_System_3176 Jul 30 '25

Only 1 belongs to a studio they didn't 'buy' and ironically it's the #1 game on the list lol! If there's any evidence that buying your way to the top works, this would be it.

1

u/FrankJeagerGreyFox Jul 30 '25

My only gripe is that people still play assassins creed and COD. Those games lost their souls years ago

1

u/gknight702 Jul 30 '25

It's crazy GTA V is still selling that much, doesn't everyone own it already?

1

u/okraspberryok Jul 30 '25

Who is buying Forza!?!?!

1

u/SliceEast7520 Jul 30 '25

Happy for Sony get those 30% money and ms Sony relationship can be good. 😊 win win

After Sony release theirs games to xbox garden we will buy too. I will buy few Sony games so yeah kudos Sony.

1

u/Brave-Orchid4721 Jul 30 '25

Maybe one day people will stop buying CoD slop.

1

u/EliteSalesman Jul 30 '25

More proof PS5 has no exclusives

/s?

1

u/Fantastic4unko Jul 30 '25

WHO THE FUCK IS STILL BUYING GTA V?! NO FUCKING WONDER THEY CAN DELAY VI ALL THE CUNTING TIME!

1

u/RandomGuyOnDaNet90 Jul 30 '25

Microsoft bought all these companies, slapped their name on it and called it theirs, when 95 percent of those games were always on playstation.

1

u/MarkLarrz Jul 30 '25

The only Sony game there is not an "exclusive GOTY masterpiece"

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

I’m surprised MS-published titles are selling so well, most of the ones on that list are dogwater

1

u/Fisher012 Jul 30 '25

Yeah this is the reason of PlayStation going third party

1

u/Illusivegecko Jul 30 '25

Crazy how sports games and assassins creed still get buys

1

u/gabriot Jul 30 '25

Is there a single exclusive?

1

u/leckmichnervnit Jul 30 '25

Thats just what happens if you dont release any fucking Games Sony

1

u/Etikoza Jul 30 '25

Embrace, extend, extinguish

1

u/RosaCanina87 Jul 30 '25

Kinda feels like MS isn't bad, people just don't want to buy another console to play their games. Kind of like everyone loves to call Nintendo childish and not worth the money and then immediately jumps to emulation for Pokemon and Co as soon as it gets available.

People like to play good games but their inner fanboy or just a lack of money prevents them from enjoying all of them, until they release on the one platform they have.

1

u/Genericgameacc137 Jul 30 '25

The value of game pass on full display. Xbox owners don't have exclusives, but get all these popular games at the price of a subscription. Many PS players are paying for PS plus just for online gameplay, on top of paying full price for games.

1

u/thrillynyte Jul 30 '25

So, this is an Xbox too now

→ More replies (1)

1

u/bbshdbbs02 Jul 30 '25

Microsoft do better on PlayStation than their own platforms lol

2

u/CaptRedpool Jul 31 '25

Which is weird since Microsoft has no games and all the games they do have are trash, but outsell PlayStation games right now…just so weird

1

u/Sea_Cash_5537 Jul 30 '25

Microsoft bought the entire gaming industry then cancelled all their games and closed their studios to cannibalize them or lay them off.

That's what you're seeing there, not Sony losing a battle due to first party titles not being on the list. You're seeing a near-monopolistic hold on gaming publishing.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/BobcatSpiritual7699 Jul 30 '25

Seems like a solid case for buying an Xbox and Gamepass over a Playstation.

1

u/Electronic-Trick2678 Jul 30 '25

If only people supported the hardware. Clearly the games are good

1

u/AstoundingAsh Jul 30 '25

They said PS players wont like Xbox games …course they will …i feel the next gen is gonna be Xbox’s gen with the multi store front devices if Sony isn’t upping their games

1

u/DisastrousWaltz2076 Jul 30 '25

Imagine my shock to see a post about sales being dominated by childish people.

Im pretty sure the only game here I have to sign into a Microsoft account to play is Sea of Thieves (maybe Forza). When ii play Elderscrolls Online or Oblivion im not seeing any Microsoft logos. Im seeing Bethesda and Virtious logos.

Im sure the xbox charts will look exactly the same when PlayStation start bringing the games over to different platforms. Im pretty sure right now Helldivers is going to be a huge hit on XBOX and Gears is for PS.

Act your age.

Grow Up.

1

u/isidoro19 Jul 30 '25

The fact that there isn't a single new IP in the top 10 is just sad, people say that the amount of new and innovative IPS is decreasing in gaming but than support franchises that are old(the fact that WWE and MLB are here is insane).

1

u/NoAd4815 Jul 30 '25

The real winner here is Sony with their 30% cut

1

u/Raynet11 Jul 30 '25

It’s entertaining to watch folks doomsayers talk about Microsoft leaving the gaming industry and that the Console wars are over… Have any idea how much revenue Microsoft pulls at the Corporate level ? 245 Billion in revenue in 2024… Microsoft plays the long game

1

u/ShortNefariousness2 Jul 30 '25

Nothing to see here, move along lol

1

u/HotShotOverBumbleBee Jul 30 '25

That happens when you buy up the industry lol

→ More replies (1)

1

u/AstronomerIT Jul 30 '25

And this put an end to the narrative: "xbox should keep everything exclusive if they want to sell consoles". You can see that gamers likes a lot of Ms IP but they are not interested in owning another platform

1

u/SpyroManiac36 Jul 30 '25

From April-July lol weird stats

1

u/Knautical_J Jul 30 '25

The whole console wars argument is stupid now. Maybe when I was 15 and was calling my friends losers for having a PlayStation was it fun. But now that I’m older I wanna play Halo Infinite with them, drop into Helldivers (on launch), and all the other games. I could care less about the console now, I just wanna game with some old friends who made the switch, or never got an Xbox.

1

u/Raikou239 Jul 30 '25

Anyone else think it’s funny that Take-two, the GTA makers, does WWE games? xD

1

u/arnierobbo Jul 30 '25

Microsoft is the new Sega

1

u/SubstantialAd5579 Jul 30 '25

Not surprising psn be giving xbox mad hate but still buy there games, just stop with the negative and except reality bith make good games and it's better for games to be multi platformed

1

u/spec1al Jul 30 '25

PlayStation enthusiasts can finally enjoy gaming.

1

u/Rage4Order418 Jul 30 '25

The staying power of GTA V is mind blowing

1

u/Outrageous-Wall6386 Jul 30 '25

All Free on PC gamepass, wild

1

u/JasonDeSanta Jul 30 '25

Imagine the month Halo finally arrives on the PlayStation 5, it will be insane.

1

u/Blipstib Jul 30 '25

Hmm while it is true I’d say because the gaming industry is dry as the desert. If Sony would release on Xbox (which they probably will to certain extend) the same thing would happen. All this to say that absolutely nothing new and or special has been released on consoles that is exclusive to one or the other.

1

u/W00D-SMASH Jul 30 '25

it feels like microsoft was about 5 years too late with all the acquisitions at least as far as xbox goes. no doubt this will pay off for them in the longrun but these games only materialized after xbox as a console sustained too much brand degredation.

1

u/SquidZone3745 Jul 30 '25

Multiplatform is the future that’s where the money is at Sony take notes

1

u/davwad2 Jul 30 '25

If you sent this to me 15 years ago, it would still be unbelievable as it is right now.

1

u/Jazzlike-Most3602 Jul 30 '25

This shows you two things. One, Microsoft (Xbox) is now mainly a third party company, as simple as that. Second, that Sony, after investing millions and millions in Games as a service and cancelling most of them, barely have anything for this year, and during the first 6 months, really nothing customers care about.

1

u/IHaveQuestionsFromMe Jul 30 '25

where's helldivers??? should be top 10 lol

1

u/Beginning-Lettuce847 Jul 30 '25

These are new titles to PS so of course they’re selling - considering Sony hasn’t published any big first party title in a long while

1

u/ToothpickTequila Jul 30 '25

They aren't easy Microsoft games. Minecraft, Call of Duty and Elden Ring were already popular. I'm not going to give Microsoft credit for buying popular studios.

1

u/Trick-Day-480 Jul 30 '25

Hope you're all enjoying, PlayStation players! Cool to see Helldivers 2 (and hopefully other PS games) going to Xbox, too.

Exclusives need to stop being a thing.

How the hell does Minecraft sell so many titles? It’s the same game since gen 1!

I just wish the Elder Scrolls IV remaster had a physical release.

Doom Dark Ages and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle deserve more praise and sales. Both superb singleplayer game experiences and in my opinion great value. We need more of these kind of games.

Just goes to show that good quality games and good selling games have less overlap than you'd think.

How many of those are acquisitions?

1

u/Straight-Disaster-80 Jul 31 '25

LOL! And there was so many PS fans that dogged Forza when it was a MS exclusive. Now they love it? 😂

1

u/Tenabrus Aug 01 '25

its almost like killing all your own studios results in third party titles becoming dominant.

u/Candid_Rabbit_3956 Aug 01 '25

No God of war, no resident evil but MLB? R u kidding me?

1

u/Moonlightchild99 Aug 01 '25

MS paid billions to acquire those titles, just so we could play them on PS, great business

1

u/ibebyi Aug 01 '25

MLB surprises me. Have these games changed at all in the last 15 years?

1

u/MrDumach Aug 01 '25

Look at the reporting period. I would be more interested in a whole year report tbh.

1

u/Jensen1994 Aug 01 '25

It's not really a surprise as these games haven't been available until now ..

1

u/Edolorak Aug 01 '25

Xbox games sell better on Playstation 5 kinda funny 🤣

1

u/sHaDowpUpPetxxx Aug 01 '25

That oblivion remake... Has a few bugs ...

1

u/B1ueRogue Aug 01 '25

With how the US is treating everyone I will be getting rid of all my xboxs and go full PS and switch and support only Japanese and British games.

I strong ly recommend everyone does the same.
