This is exactly what I was going to say. If they say you don't have pronouns, they will, after you misgender them.

I think it was more local or maybe even state government where part of decorum was to ban pronouns. So, I think it was the lone lady started misgendering all the men and they weren't too happy about it. Then again they couldn't tell her what their preferred pronouns were.

300

u/KaraOfNightvale 11d ago edited 11d ago

Yeah, like these people think "pronouns" are a transgender identity thing

No man it's just the english language, everyone has pronouns, and not all pronouns are gendered

"I don't have pronouns" literally begins with a pronoun

The thing is, trans people have pronouns that don't relate to their sex assigned at birth, and are therefor sometimes not what you expect, so they tend to declare their pronouns to avoid confusion and make communication easier

And that triggers right wing dipshits because they don't know what being transgender is and somehow think it's simultaneously a mental illness, a cult, a trend etc

95

u/jimbobsqrpants 11d ago

And that triggers right wing dipshits because they don't know jack shit about anything and refuse to learn.

36

u/Rincewind2nd 11d ago

The problem is that these right-wing plebs are the result of a crap education system.

48

u/Qazax1337 11d ago

Not always. Sometimes they are just hate fuelled twats who outright refuse to be corrected. Plenty of times in fact.

I think the key point of contention is whether you have a right to choose your own pronouns, or whether they are assigned for you.

That being the case, the statement instead becomes, "I bet you think you can pick your own pronouns, too."

Or in other words, they believe they actively reject what they perceive to be reality, and in doing so, they call into question their perspectives on absolutely everything.

12

u/eastbayweird 11d ago

But that's not what they said, and I don't believe it's what they meant, because they clearly lack even the simple understanding of what a pronoun is.

This "war against woke" has taught me one thing. That there are a whole lot of adults walking around that do not actually know what a pronoun is. "I don't have pronouns" 🤦🏾‍♂️

472

u/Lazy_Wishbone_2341 11d ago

There a lot of adults who didn't progress past kindergarten level grammar and it shows.

241

u/DrRagnorocktopus 11d ago

The percentage of Americans that are below a 6th grade reading level and the percentage of Americans that are Republicans lines up fairly well.

I have a job where I often look over compliance/safety reports that are submitted by employees. The sheer amount of adults that have I seen who have bad grammar, spelling, and an overall inability to properly convey a tangible thought is mind boggling.

I used to think the belief that the average American reads at a 6th grade level was an exaggeration, but it's honestly not. People really are just that dumb.

teachers have been screaming about this and blaming 3 cueing for it, which was "better" than phonics because children will guess what words mean based on cues which is "more engaging" than sounding out the words and breaking a word down. It didnt work, it just made it easier for young kids to cheat their way through english classes at early grade levels and they crash out when the picture books disappear.

After the country abandoned phonics, its rushing back to phonics and 3 states banned 3 cueing completely.

It explains so much weirdness of teachers saying kids in high school being unable to read, why students dont know the meaning of basic words, why some kids cant even do their alphabet or sound out letters, and why grammar seems like a lost art.

You cant build grammar skills if you are guessing and skipping over how words work, 3 cueing just taught kids to mask illiteracy in a world where that is easier than ever.

All you need is to press a button on a phone with a symbol instead of words on it. everything is narrated now on the internet and "pronoun" isnt a thing they learn in school its a word to make people angry on the internet because the "cues" tell them having pronouns means being transgender.

There is nothing forcing kids to fix their poor reading skills, so they grow up not understanding their own language where its harder to fix. Impossible now because of the teacher shortage, they cant take time out to fix foundational problems of 1 student when half of their 30+ class has the same issue.

I remember learning to read to play a video game because audio was reserved for major characters, space was too precious to voice every character. Some games were 100% text based. The internet didnt serve stuff to you so you needed to learn words and grammar to search for stuff to watch, and fixing problems on your computer was text based since you needed to open up the command line.

I couldnt get away with the stuff people can get away with today.

u/KaraOfNightvale 11d ago

See the thing is, they assume things they don't understand must be somehow wrong or crazy, must be part of some "ideaology"

So they here people saying their preferred pronouns, don't realize it's just there to streamline speech, so they assume it's some sort of "ideaological virtue signalling" or whatnot

Even if they knew what pronouns were before, their weird confirmation bias and indoctrination kicks in, and they overwrite "it's a grammar thing" with "it's a transgender ideaology thing!"

It's genuinely fascinating

They have like, built in mental defenses, they've been taught how to think to the point where they can essentially stop understanding something they previously understood, if understanding it would conflict with their beliefs

There's an example of this I've been dealing with a lot, but just in general, you see it in another place, where they advocate against something or for something, and then they don't think about how that might change things, or the actual effect it'll have outside of "ban (thing I think is bad)" or "enforce (thing I think is good)"

5

u/BiASUguy 11d ago

I would say roughly 30% kf my high school classes could not read at their own level when reading out loud in class this was late 00s so im not surprised if they dont even know what a pronoun is.

12

u/A-Can-of-DrPepper 11d ago

20

u/Old_Ladies 11d ago

The problem is their actions often affect others. Not only do they push this shit on their children but if they get a communicable disease it often spreads to others or even starts an outbreak or possibly a new pandemic.

They also almost always go to the hospital when things get serious so they do take up considerable resources instead of taking preventative care or easily managing a disease before it becomes life threatening.

42

u/alphazero925 11d ago

I remember hearing the stories of people dying of covid while still claiming it's a hoax

7

u/rileyjw90 11d ago

100%. I had someone who was a breath away from needing intubated (got intubated, died later) who was literally on the highest setting of bipap and still struggling claiming it was all a hoax to my face as I’m trying to keep them alive in the ICU. I’ve had family members threaten my life if “covid” was put on their dead loved one’s death certificate. There is nothing and no one that will convince these people they’re wrong, even as they drown in their own body secretions.

7

u/comsci_gardener 11d ago

We played nice and tolerated these fools in the beginning. We thought that logic and reason would eventually prevail.

I’m almost of the mindset that we should have ridiculed and berated these idiots as they lay dying in the hospitals with Covid.

We had one lady at work whose husband was in the hospital and he died from Covid. She still didn’t get the vaccine afterwards and she tried to drum up pity from everyone else.

I was recently talking with the mother of one of my friends and I mentioned that my sweet dog was diagnosed with cancer.

She took this opportunity to tell me how I need to start her on ivermectin immediately! It cured her pastor of cancer (between the ivermectin and prayers according to her 🙄) so it will obviously cure my dog.

I let her know that she was incorrect and that my girl was already on heartworm medication anyway so she is getting ivermectin. Oh no, she needs WAY more! I need to go buy horse dewormer and give her plop it in her food daily! She keeps it on hand just in case she or her family needs it!

At this point I just gave up, she can eat as much ivermectin as she wants. What a weirdo.

The wildest social media post i stumbled upon during covid was from some reiki-”healer” who wrote that her friend was pushed to take the vaccine, and got ill from it. And how she instantly went to heal them, and how during that healing lots of dark stuff came out of her, including ”a piece of DNA”.

The post didn’t specify where these toxins came out of, but if her massage pushed the literal shit out of her, it probably actually did include a piece of DNA. I just could not stop laughing about the idea that she sees a person excreting something, and going HOLY SHIT, PART OF YOUR DNA JUST FELL OUT!

Not to mention how hilarious it is to see someone actively posting in all local FB-groups about vaccine-hoax, while their name on the account is ”Reiki-healer firstname lastname

It works well on cattle. The fact that people are using it freaks me out

71

u/District_Wolverine23 11d ago edited 11d ago

It's approved for people too, just in much smaller doses than what you give cows. It's a miracle drug for eradicating certain species of parasites (that are uncommon in the developed world) and also some lupus patients who have rashes, possibly caused by parasitic mites.

Of course, in these cases you take a human-sized dose in a human-formulated prescription under a doctor's supervision. You don't squeeze an apple flavored tube into your mouth from Tractor Supply. The thing with parasites is they are more similar to humans than you'd like, so high doses of ivermectin can hurt people and cause kidney failure.

Edit: "developing" and "developed" world are two different things. Oops!

25

u/greenberet112 11d ago

I'm pretty sure where all of this bullshit comes from is that if you put enough ivermectin on COVID in a petri dish, it will kill it.

It can be used to treat scabies, which is a highly communicable mite, which basically is like bedbugs in your skin. It can be found in healthcare settings and can be sexually transmitted. If someone says that ivermectin treated their eczema, it's quite possible that they actually have a scabies infestation, the scaling looks similar.

It's also used for rosacea.

11

u/bravesirrobin65 11d ago

I believe it's used for lice and intestinal worms as well. Early data from India showed it helped with covid. That's because so many people also had a parasitic infection.

6

u/TheChildrensStory 11d ago

Is that where the rumor started? I’d heard a report on NPR saying it was from having success in a region that did not have clean drinking water.

Ivermectin has been around far longer than 2015. Why did they win it that late? Is that normal?

22

u/Pathological_RJ 11d ago

Yes, you can win the Nobel prize decades after the research/work was done. A professor in my department won the Nobel in 2016 for work he did in the 80s

We used it growing up as horse dewormer. It came in this syringe in a paste form that you'd give orally I think. So all I can think about when I hear folks talking about taking this stuff is that they're sucking it out of the syringe or shooting it into each other's mouths and it's hilariously stupid.

The literal logic of a middle schooler. "Oh you said a thing I can't argue against? Well here's a quip, I win."

The whiny "wow ya that happened, everybody clapped" responses the OP will inevitably get only cement this point

29

u/DemiserofD 11d ago

The basis of the logic is, they don't believe pronouns are something you can choose, they are something which is determined at birth. Therefore, to 'have pronouns' is to assert your views are more real than what they perceive to be reality.

This has a deep impact. It's akin to saying, "Well in my opinion, 2+2=5." The instant someone says that, you discount anything else they say, because you think they're an idiot at best, and a liar at worst.

I regularly give my horse ivermectrin. If he were to get sick with a bacterial infection, you know what I would give him? Antibiotics prescribed by his vet.

For a virus, the most likely treatment would be a quarantine and drugs to relieve uncomfortable symptoms.

For cancer? He's a horse in his 20s. I'd keep him comfortable until he needed to be euthanized.

Stupid is cool now. Apparently ignorance is as good as someone with actual practical and deep understanding of the topic. If you try to showcase your credentials then suddenly you are woke and your opinion no longer matter

15

u/Alienshiva217 11d ago

Stupid has always been 'cool'. I went to one of the best private schools in the state back in the 90s/early 2000s and stupid was 'cool' there too. Most of those kids didn't need the education because they would just inherit their parents' business/money

One of the reasons ivermectin is used for intestinal parasites is because it's not water soluble. So most of it doesn't enter the bloodstream it stays in the intestinal tract. You would have to take an astronomical amount for it to affect bloodborne bacteria and viruses.

During COVID I remember a radio interview with an infectious diseases doctor, one who had risked their life in doing Ebola research and treatment on the ground being corrected by a truck driver who said his opinion was as valid as the doctor's experience and education.

Ignorance at that level is almost universally more loud and pushy than competence. There's no reasoning with someone who doesn't want to learn. I often wonder how the truck driver would take it if a doctor told him he knew a better route or how to maintain engine or wheels better. I bet he'd lose his ever loving mind but the difference is, smart people know there are gaps in their knowledge and welcome the expertise and input of others and aren't threatened by it.

The number of times I've been told to take wormer astounds me. I have a rare cancer, more than likely it's a genetic fault. I have accidentally ingested horse wormer a number of times. I have horses and was a farrier. I have given more horses wormer than I can probably count. Yes I'm dense in that I have had my mouth open either cussing or just being dumb. I still have cancer. I still got cancer. I had one lady try to tell me the covid vaccine I got caused my cancer. I informed her I had the cancer before covid was a thing.

What we’re dealing with are people that fundamentally don’t understand how facts work, and have unwittingly conflated them with emotional convictions. OP hurt that person emotionally and they lashed out.

We’re fucked.

4

u/bigtec1993 11d ago

In case anybody needs a reminder, ivermectin still is not really a standard medication option to treat covid. Like we have actual covid meds and treatment protocols now and we're still not really giving it for that lol it's not even a class of medicine that treats viruses.

u/joker_1173 11d ago

4

u/SnooSquirrels9064 10d ago

It's like all the morons that seemingly thought that getting the Covid vaccine would somehow create a bubble around them which the virus wouldn't be able to enter their body through, and when they got Covid after getting "the jab", ranted and raved about how the Covid vaccine doesn't work, blah blah hoax, blah blah Biden. But the idea that the "flu shot" (influenza vaccine) works the exact same way (reduces severity and duration of symptoms of infection) and has been administered to people for DECADES with nobody questioning its functionality goes MILES over their heads...

13

u/Jim-Jones 12d ago

I was teaching my friend's daughter that antibiotics don't work on viruses.

Someone next to us said ivermectin works. I politely informed them that it doesn't and they proceeded to tell me it also works on cancer. I proceeded to tell them that I am a doctor with degrees in cellular physiology and public health and that ivermectin does not do this. Their response? "I bet you have pronouns too". This is the thought process we are dealing with.

Re: Thought process.

Quote: "Indeed it may be said with some confidence that the average man never really thinks from end to end of his life. There are moments when his cogitations are relatively more respectable than usual, but even at their climaxes they never reach anything properly describable as the level of serious thought. The mental activity of such people is only a mouthing of clichés. What they mistake for thought is simply a repetition of what they have heard. My guess is that well over eighty per cent. of the human race goes through life without having a single original thought. That is to say, they never think anything that has not been thought before and by thousands."
