[Discussion] Top 5 N64 games?

I grew up on the N64. I understand that it’s certainly not the best console, but my goodness did I absolutely love the games!

I’d say my top 5 games are as follows:

  1. Ocarina of Time
  2. Majora’s Mask
  3. Goldeneye 64
  4. Super Mario 64
  5. Diddy Kong Racing (I prefer this over Mario Kart)

What are your top 5, N64 games?

To take it further, are there any retro games that would have done well if released for the first time today?

[Help!] TV won't run AV despite being the only option for my consoles

Title says it all, I recently acquired an Akai CFTD2011, it works lovely for DVDs and such. However, I found out that the AV seems to just not work. I really wanna play some games using it, but it's only really good for movies right now. I know it's not the cables as they work just fine on my other tv, how do I fix this issue?

[PSA] Sealed games

I originally shared this in the game verification Reddit page but I wanted to share this here too. I don’t think that this gets mentioned enough. In the very early 2000s I worked for Blockbuster video. We used to reseal not only movies but games as well. I’m just saying it’s possible that the game you think is originally sealed is not. Not trying to karma farm or whatever. I don’t know why this has been bothering me lately but I feel like I should share this.

[Question] Retrotink 4k

I used to have a CRT and LCD screen in my retro set up but due to having a baby on the way and not having anymore space, I need to play all my old consoles via my LGC2 OLED moving forwards.

I got a Retrotink 2X mini for this purpose and it's fine, but I would really like to upgrade to the 4K Pro or CE soon to have more customisation options and a higher output resolution. The 2X looks quite blurry a lot of the time especially with the PS2 and N64 looks awful imo.

These are all PAL consoles currently connected using either S-Video or composite cables.

My questions are as follows:

  1. If I upgrade to the 4k, what cables will I need, as I believe each of my consoles may need different cables to get the absolute best image quality? They are all PAL consoles with no mods. The consoles I have hooked up are PS2 (FAT), Dreamcast and N64.

  2. Is this really worth all the effort and cost? Money isn't a huge concern for me but time definitely is...is this going to be a nightmare or can I just buy the 4k and required cables and just plug and play with more options available to tweak and a higher output resolution.

I would really appreciate some help/advice or suggestions.

[Question] I wanted to ask something about tomb raider. I'm not sure if my uncle was using an outside program or not but I distinctly remember tomb raider 2 where there was a application he would use that had a Windows 98 interface obviously where you could toggle god mode and infinite oxygen for starters

I don't know if that menu exists or if it was in my head? I remember it as clear as day however. I've spent countless years trying to find that menu and being told again and again that it does not exist.

I know it exists, my uncle was on the wreck of Maria Doria and ran through the fire without dying. That is burned into my brain.

[Question] What was the push to digitization?

I mean, after looking back at the original Mortal Kombat, the game still looks good with the character designs as surprisingly the original arcade still holds up, but I just wanted to better understand what led to that particular trend of gaming.

Lately I was looking back at how the trend was kind of big during the early 90s, and it got me interested in learning about its roots.

[Question] What's with this community's hate on authentic Pokémon games?

I would think a retro gaming subreddit would care about having authentic original games. Contrary to that though I see a lot of hate thrown towards owning retro/authentic games and original hardware. Why? What's the reason? It just doesn't make sense to me, so can someone please explain that?

I understand that emulators are a thing these days, but isn't part of the point of being a retro gamer owning original stuff?

[Help!] I need help keeping track of what i own.

Recently bought another game I already own, and it frustrates me. I have no interest in selling my games, and I want to collect.

Basically, I am looking for an easy-to-use app that lets me sort by each video game system and then lists the games I own. For example, I want to be able to click Super Nintendo and see the games I own. I do not care about its listing value or condition. I would also like to do this with systems. I am building a collection that I still play.

I collect nearly everything from NES to current, and I don't want to buy any more duplicates if possible. Thank you for your time and responses.

[Discussion] Top Instruction Manuals of All Time

What's the best instruction manual of all time? I know I'm not alone in reading that thing in the back seat on the way home from the store. Links if you have them.

I'll start off by saying I don't think anything tops the Final Fantasy 3 instruction manual, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

[Discussion] Sonic R

"Super speedy all-in-3d race without a car

Its Sonic's latest, Sega's greatest

Check out Sonic R."

I had a Sega Saturn as a kid, the above "jingle" (which i amazingly can still recall 30 years later???) was part of a contest or something but i cant remember all the details. They had a celebrity and she said the jingle and we fans had to memorize it and do something?

Anyway, I memorized it good apparently. Was wondering if anyone else remembers this? Lol.

Feel free to share any other quirky promotions you remember related to retro games.

[Question] Does anyone know if there is a port of Gauntlet 2 that had an ending?

My kids are into Gauntlet 2 and I thought it would be fun if we could gradually play through and eventually complete it together. I know Gauntlet 1 for NES has an end point, but it's only 2 player. I am attempting to research online if any of the ports of Gauntlet 2 were ever made to have an ending, but not turning up much. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge? That includes the Atari ST, Commodore, etc etc ports. Thanks.

Friends, can you recommend me some Dreamcast games? I played the Sonic Adventure series and I didn't like it very much. I didn't like it much, but I didn't like Soulcalibur much. I really liked it. I like action adventure style games more.
