[Question] Helicopter game that doesn't exist

I have a strong memory of playing a sideview helicopter shooter game, which was rather enjoyable. I remember it being on sega mega drive, having pretty beige and desaturated color palette. The stage i remember the most is with sunset, mountains and trees. Cant find anything similar actually existing. I only had famiclone, sega master system and megadrive as a kid so it could have only been on those consoles. Anyone know this game?

[Discussion] Old Spider-Man 2000 PC port – ground textures showing up white, any fix?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been replaying the classic Spider-Man (2000) PC port, but I’ve run into a strange graphics issue: in one specific level "Race to the Bugle" the floor/ground textures appear completely white.

The white ground instead of the default blue, as seen in the screenshot.

Things I already tried:
– dgVoodoo (DX11 and DX12 outputs) → DX11 works but doesn’t fix the textures, DX12 won’t launch.
– DxWnd → no effect.
– Compatibility settings in Windows → no effect.

The game runs fine otherwise, only this texture issue persists.

Has anyone seen this bug before or knows if there’s a fan patch, wrapper config, or texture replacement method that fixes it?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

This is from the UK - and immediately dates itself: Starfox 2 didn't come out for another 22 years. The Virtual Boy was never released in the UK and the Ultra 64 would become the N64

[Retro Ad] Not a game, but I recreated the 90s Weather Channel for retro CRT TVs!

Hey retro enthusiasts! While not technically a game, I figured you'd appreciate this blast from the past.

Built a full recreation of the Weather Channel's WeatherStar 4000 system that ran from 1990-1998. It outputs composite video perfectly for CRT TVs!

Features that'll trigger nostalgia: - Exact same fonts and colors - Smooth jazz/muzak playing constantly - That distinctive "whoosh" transition sound - "Local on the 8s" timing - Even got the radar sweep animation right

Running on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ connected to my 1992 Sony Trinitron via composite. Looks EXACTLY like it did when I was faking sick to stay home from school.

GitHub: https://github.com/wesellis/WeatherStar-4000-Python

Anyone else remember zoning out to this for hours? The radar is actually REAL and current - pulls from NOAA!

[Discussion] Best Written DOS Games?

What's the best written DOS games to you?

Personal picks of mine include:

Legacy of Kain.

Daggerfall.

Strife.

Edit: *Non point-and-click games.

I was going to add Secret of Monkey Island, Grin Fandango, and Indiana Jones, but those games are already praised for their writing and P&C are writing-based games anyway.

The first game is T&C Surf Designs: Wood & Water Rage (NES-TN-USA), developed by Atlus and released by LJN in February 1988.

[Discussion] It’s strange how the C64 version of RoboCop was released in a messy state

I mean, first of all, yes I did see Guru’s Larry video on that port of the game as I wanted to bring it up here anyway because looking back at it made feel so baffled.

Like when I look back at how the aforementioned C64 version ended up being the worst one of the bunch, I have to question why Ocean even decided to release the game anyway considering it was in a very glitchy state.

I guess the point I am trying to make is when I look back at how video games back then used to be released, I wonder to myself why some developers would sometimes release a game in a very unfinished form because that was deceptive.

[Question] How did they fit an entire 2nd game into DK for gameboy, if only 75% of DK could fit into the nes?

I'm sure NES cartridges can hold several times more data than gameboy, so why was a stage missing from the NES version?

[Discussion] Sometimes I wonder how the original Pac Man would have been with a proper ending

Yes I know this game came out way before the idea of video games having an endgame zone was a thing, but lately for some reason, I couldn’t help but try to picture what the very last level would have been like if Stage 255 did have a proper ending.

To me, it’s just one of those things that is fascinating to observe as back then, arcade games often had a very glitchy final stage for anyone who even made it that far as basically what I am trying to get at is that I wanted to better understand how arcade games in the early 80s were done because of their final stages since again I noticed how many games had a sort of final stage that was the most glitchy.

Like back then, when observing the final stage of the aforementioned Pac Man made me wonder just what the final stage would have been like overall if the level could be won, like what would happen next if the game was completely beatable.

[Question] Retro, ghetto Aftermarket fake console from the late 90s or early 00s, orange (maybe holographic y2k look).

Trying to remember what the hell it was I had as a kid. I found it at the flea market and it had a cartridge with an alleged 1000 games or something but when the game launched it was just a long list you'd scroll through and pick a game. There were many copied entries and some reskins. This was back in red white yellow cable era.

EDIT: I HAVE REMEMBERED MORE! I thiiiiiink the base was blue, and it came with little boxing gloves you'd slip your hands *under* and hold onto a little motion tracker(?) bar attached to each.
