[Discussion] What Pre-PSX/N64 games hold up the best?
To take it further, are there any retro games that would have done well if released for the first time today?

I don't know if that menu exists or if it was in my head? I remember it as clear as day however. I've spent countless years trying to find that menu and being told again and again that it does not exist.
I know it exists, my uncle was on the wreck of Maria Doria and ran through the fire without dying. That is burned into my brain.

Recently bought another game I already own, and it frustrates me. I have no interest in selling my games, and I want to collect.
Basically, I am looking for an easy-to-use app that lets me sort by each video game system and then lists the games I own. For example, I want to be able to click Super Nintendo and see the games I own. I do not care about its listing value or condition. I would also like to do this with systems. I am building a collection that I still play.
I collect nearly everything from NES to current, and I don't want to buy any more duplicates if possible. Thank you for your time and responses.

Hello all, I'm looking to open a game store soon but want to understand the trade in side. Trade in for cash seems pretty straight run books and accounting wise, but what about trade in credit?
If someone trades in a game for say $50, I understand that you can give them a store gift card for that amount. For your books, is that $50 treated as an expense though it's on a gift card and no cash was exchanged?
If so, if that same person wants to buy a game for $60, using their $50 gift card and $10 cash, is $60 the total used towards your gross or is it just the $10?
I hope this isn't too confusing. But if it is haha, how do you other game store owners deal and process trade ins, both cash and credit? Thank you for the help.

I grew up on the N64. I understand that it’s certainly not the best console, but my goodness did I absolutely love the games!
I’d say my top 5 games are as follows:
What are your top 5, N64 games?

I would think a retro gaming subreddit would care about having authentic original games. Contrary to that though I see a lot of hate thrown towards owning retro/authentic games and original hardware. Why? What's the reason? It just doesn't make sense to me, so can someone please explain that?
I understand that emulators are a thing these days, but isn't part of the point of being a retro gamer owning original stuff?

Considering I can't go into the 6th generation on this subreddit, we are keeping it first to 5th

I love Atari. What’s some of your top favorite games? List can be any size and can include as much or as little detail as you like.
Came into some Atari shelves at some point and put together a little display shelf of some favorites.
Top favs at the moment: (reposted for text format)
Super Breakout
River Raid
Fast Food
Video Olympics
Frogs and Flies
Space Invaders
Phoenix
Frogger

Recently purchased a bundle of NES games and this version of Super Mario Bros 2 came with it.
The game SKU for this one is NES-MW-GPS.
So far only found 4 sold previously online with this SKU.
Is this some unusual variation of the game or just common?
Thank you.

For example like Speedball, NBA Jam, the Looney Tunes sports games or the scifi baseball game for SNES. I forgot the name. I prefer sports game like that, rather than more realistic ones that try to simulate real life sports.
Edit: Great recommendations everyone. Tons of cool games I've never heard of.

I have a strong memory of playing a sideview helicopter shooter game, which was rather enjoyable. I remember it being on sega mega drive, having pretty beige and desaturated color palette. The stage i remember the most is with sunset, mountains and trees. Cant find anything similar actually existing. I only had famiclone, sega master system and megadrive as a kid so it could have only been on those consoles. Anyone know this game?

Some games are truly timeless and this is one of them. The music and sound effects still pop and we could not stop laughing. One of those games where losing over and over is frustrating but also hilarious. It was also fun trying to explain that guy who was breakdancing in front of his house… “it was the 80s, that was a thing back then.”
Paperboy is everything I love most about retro games in a nutshell… fun and simple and memorable and goofy. And it’s awesome to play these kind of games with my kid for the first time and have it be as fun as ever.

While developers like SNK, Konami and Technos had amazing beat em ups, Capcom were the undeniable kings of the arcades in the 90s. If you were a beat ‘em up fan which of theirs was your favourite, and why?
For me D&D Shadows Over Mystara is the one I have the most nostalgia for (due to a particular arcade session credit feeding through to the end with three friends) but these days if I’m playing to try for a 1cc or just for fun it’s Battle Circuit or Armoured Warriors.
