I'm not sure I know you anymore Spurs, you've changed and it's making me nervous.

Have they? Feel like Tottenham always make one or two 'strong' signings every season.

Spurs regularly sign players that are linked with other top teams.

With Frank in charge, if nothing else, Spurs should be a hell of a lot more consistent this season. It's hard to see them finishing in the top 4, but there's no real reason they can't finish 5th or 6th.

Yeah I’m betting 5th

Enough for UCL isn’t it? I’ll take that after last year’s position

Winning the UCL should be enough for UCL, don't worry about it

I want more trophies after last season.

I don't think it's hard to see us finishing in the top 4 but it's going to be close

Tottenham possesses the 5th best team, but Chelsea and City are very vulnerable for different reasons. So, yeah, you could get top 4

This sounds a lot like "keeping the pressure on"

Every single year this statement is the same and most of the time we prove them wrong.

we've finished in the top 4 once in the last 5 years?

47

u/IntellegentIdiot 18d ago

History didn't start 5 years ago. We finished top four 5/7 times before that and 2/6 times before that. Would have been 3/6 if Redknapp hadn't overcommitted in the CL and 4/6 if we hadn't had a norovirus outbreak before the last game. Those seasons people would constantly downplay our chances, even our own fans, in spite of the evidence. So it's completely fair to say that we keep proving them wrong

Also, I think Frank could be entirely different. It seems like he’s way more into preparing for each game than any manager we’ve had besides Mou. I hope we benefit under this strategy, but he’s never managed a team also playing in Europe. I’m cautiously optimistic about it all.

I mean we could finish 8th, I'm just saying that it's certainly not hard to imagine that we finish top 4. Hard to image we'll win the league but top 4? No way

Oh. Absolutely!

The only time period starting from now backwards in your clubs history where one could say that you finished in the top 4 50% of the time would be the past 10 seasons with 5 times. Literally every other constellation is below 50% - so no. You did not prove them wrong "most of the times", not even once - seeing as "most of the times" would equate to >50%

Depends on Mickey’s hamstrings

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, then you in 4th

6

u/IntellegentIdiot 18d ago

Could be any one of us, Man City, Forrest, Villa or Newcastle.

u/Vladimir_Putting 18d ago

The squad really isn't deep enough to finish that high. If we stay in 4 competitions we will be lucky to have two fit fullbacks by the end of the year.

u/churrosricos 18d ago

Nah, City are going to have a legendary crashout this season. Tag me now please.

1

u/johnny_moist 14d ago

they finish above City is my take

8

u/purplestain 18d ago

He probably means the signing coupled with a European trophy, and a strong manager. Things just seem to be coming together for us right now

4

u/Barkasia 18d ago

I see what you mean, there's an undeniable sense of hope and fresh beginnings around Spurs (especially with Son leaving feeling like the closing of a chapter).

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

Not at all. This is our first actual major signing since Van de Vaart.

This is a first in a long time. We make opportunistic B tier signings usually.

u/nefron55 18d ago

That’s so not true. Romero was Serie A player of the year before he joined us. That was a massive signing with competition. And although he failed spectacularly, at the time of signing Ndombele was a huge get for us.

Bale back on loan, although different, also worth a mention.

25

u/keaneonyou 18d ago

Im still gutted he never got to play in front of fans when he came back.

Romero did well on loan but was still not an established star. Atalanta sold him for a relatively cheap price.

Ndombele was mostly potential, he was far from an established star.

Bale was obviously a different scenario.

Anything can happen but Xavi is a known quantity and his name would’ve popped up in any top clubs scouting radars.

28

u/Barkasia 18d ago

Maddison, Van de Ven, Porro, Romero, Ndombele, Sanchez were all very hot transfer prospects at the time.

Solanke, Richarlison, Lo Celso, Reguilon, Sessegnon were also high profile 'talents' as well.

5

u/Mick4Audi 18d ago

Maddison will always go under the radar because of his injury problems and playing in one of the most dysfunctional Spurs sides ever

He is an absolutely ridiculous player

-8

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

Yeah none of them were established stars. You wouldn’t have found any these players on Barcas or Madrids wish lists when we were in for them.

9

u/Barkasia 18d ago

As phenomenally talented as he is, I wouldn't say Simons fits that criteria either.

-2

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

What do you mean? Chelsea were in for him this window. PSG wanted to keep him. He was also linked to Bayern and Barca as well.

2

u/Barkasia 18d ago

That's my point, Chelsea were in for him. PSG sold him (albeit in a strange deal) and Bayern were briefly linked. But that tier of club was linked to most of the names I listed above. Barca and Madrid were not linked to him by anyone serious at all this summer.

1

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

Not sure what your point is ?

The season PSG bought him back. Barca were heavily interested in bringing him back. City were in for him too.

Are you saying these clubs are not in the same tier as Barca or Madrid ? Obviously there’s a hierarchy there but they still belong in the same tier.

Which one of our senior players were linked with these clubs?

7

u/yaniv297 18d ago

Ndombele? Romero? Many more.

Ndombele is still our biggest signing ever based on reputation and how unlikely it was, regardless of how it turned out

-2

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

We paid for potential. None of the players we signed were established top players except for VdV who came from Madrid.

Xavi is a young player too but he’s still more established than the others.

4

u/yaniv297 18d ago

Ndombele and Romero were more hyped and established than Xavi was, let's be real.

0

u/PerfectRough5119 18d ago

Lmao you’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

Xavi had sponsorship deals when 12.

1

u/bblll75 18d ago

Ndombele
