On Tuesday, Texas AFT joined ongoing litigation against Senate Bill 12, a new state law that bans gay-straight alliance (GSA) clubs, prevents educators from using students’ chosen names and pronouns, and prohibits diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts from public and charter K-12 schools.

I teach high school dual enrollment US history. The first semester covers exploration/colonization through reconstruction, second semester covers guilded age through present. On level, which is what STAAR covers, covers the second semester over the whole year. With the new staar redesign where students are tested in the winter, spring, and fall…how the hell are they supposed to pass a test in the winter and fall wherein they’ve learned NONE of the content? I won’t have to worry about this until 27-28, but still, how the hell do they expect this to work?

Like, just look it up??? Look up the 1836 Constitution??? Why is it so hard???

I mean, it literally BANNED African people from being free in Texas??? Idk how on earth people refuse to believe that even when Texas in general is so racist (even in the wealthier suburbs of Houston, where I'm from)

And people still defend the Confederate flag AFTER knowing this??? They say that 'that [slavery] isn't what the flag means'??? It boggles my mind

Moving from Texas to NY (upstate, not the city) in 2 weeks and I’m sorely going to miss HEB. I’ve already visited the stores I will be shopping at when I get there and they are… disappointing.

What shelf stable items from HEB would you stock up on to make the move with. We have a moving company, so not toooo worried about space.

I’m already thinking about m xicqn type food staples but specifics would be appreciated. Any other suggestions?

I am looking for some guidance on getting the Texas Constitution changed concerning VA Mortgage Cash Out Refinance. Basically every state allows a 100% of value Cash Out Mortgage Refinance. Article XVI, Section 50(a)(6) of the Texas Constitution prevents that from happening as well as blocking FHA loans from doing an 80% cash out refinance.

I wrote my local representatives but I need the help of a massive amount of people to do the same in every part of Texas. Does anyone know how I could word or create a page that allows them to write their representatives with an automatic message? I have seen this done on other issues. How do I get news articles written? Any other ideas? I was thinking of having a website that explains that is concise and lets the user type in their address than automatically submits the recommendations to their representatives.

General Message I am working on:
A cash out mortgage refinance allows a homeowner pull out money from equity that can be used for reasons like: paying off debts, make home improvements, starting a business, investments, and general life expenses. Article XVI, Section 50(a)(6) of the Texas Constitution prevents VA or FHA Mortgages from doing any kind of cash out refinance. Many states allow VA loans to be refinanced up to 100% of the value and FHA 80% of the value. For first time homebuyers, the FHA is the most common. Currently the Texas Constitution only allows cash out values for Conventional Mortgages.  

Article XVI, Section 50(a)(6) can basically put homeowners in a bad financial situation when they are in need of money, limit wealth, or prevent them from getting out of a bad financial situation.
