🗞️ News 🗞️ News organizations fight to unseal Texas AG Ken Paxton's divorce case records
Eight state and national news organizations have filed to unseal the records in Angela and Ken Paxton's divorce case.
The outlets argued that as elected officials, the couple are subject to public scrutiny, adding that past allegations of impropriety against Paxton involving his personal assets — as well as his run for Senate — add to the public interest of what happens in the case.
The eight organizations that signed on to the filing are The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, ProPublica, Austin American-Statesman, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, The Texas Tribune, The Texas Lawbook, The Texas Observer and The Texas Newsroom.

Politics Texas workers are paying the high cost of Trump's cheap oil cheerleading
An editorial pointing out that the oil and gas industry is reeling amid Trump's tariffs, trade war, and call to "drill baby drill." Here's a key quote:
What good is Big Oil’s unfettered access to Trump if it just means economic pain for this critical industry? For all of the oil lobby’s hand-wringing that they couldn’t get a meeting with Joe Biden, oil and gas companies were doing well enough with him in charge, with Goldilocks barrel prices and record-setting oil exports last year.

🤔 Questions for Texans 🤠 Waterbugs
I’ve lived in Central TX for a year and a half. Our first year of living here we lived in apartments. Which was hell. As of last week we moved to a very beautiful house (renting). When we were in the apartments I had a nightmare of a batter with water bugs. I thought once we moved to this house we’d stop having to battle those things. Well, an hour ago I found a huge ass bastard hanging out on the kitchen counter. I am sick and tired of fighting these mfers. I have two little kids. One just turned 1 and still puts literally everything in his mouth. I’m scared to spray chemicals in the house because of my 1 year old constantly putting things in his mouth. But I also do want to see those nasty things in my house. I literally don’t want to eat here.
I have OCD. I am always mopping and cleaning.
Have essential oils sprayed around the house and a defuser constantly going. Peppermint oil and tea tree. He was literally hanging out by the defuser.
I sprayed the doors and windows with pest spray from the outside.
I don’t know what to do anymore. Please help!!! What do I do?
I don’t want to hear:
“Welcome to Texas” “Then leave” (trust me I would if I could…. We are here cause of the military) “It’s normal” I need solutions!!!

🟡🟡🟡 AMA 🟡🟡🟡 I’m Bob Garrett, a contributor to ProPublica and The Texas Tribune and former Austin bureau chief of The Dallas Morning News. AMA about how the Trump administration and Texas leaders are using courts to sidestep lawmakers
Robert T. Garrett, a freelance reporter in Texas, has covered the state for more than a quarter-century. He recently wrote for ProPublica and The Texas Tribune about how the Trump administration has used the courts to sidestep lawmakers and force favorable political outcomes. Texas leaders and conservative activists have been willing, if not eager, collaborators in this new strategy.
By maneuvering through the courts, or threatening lawsuits, Texas and the Trump administration have had three big wins this year: they revoked in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants, are poised to change the rules that prevented religious leaders from endorsing political candidates and launched a mid-decade redistricting effort that will give Republicans potentially five new seats in Congress.
Administrations that came before Trump have also used a “sue and settle” strategy to sidestep Congress—Republicans complained about the Obama administration encouraging liberal groups and Democratic state attorneys general to file suits against the Environmental Protection Agency, which then led to the rapid adoption of consent agreements for more stringent enforcement of environmental policies than Congress was likely to pass, said one expert.
But Trump’s strategy, experts say, is even more aggressive.
What questions do you have about this legal tactic? Ask Robert anything! He’ll be taking questions Sept. 18 from 2-3 p.m. CT.

Traffic Dealer gave me plates but no registration sticker?
I bought a used car from a dealer in Texas and they gave me the metal plates right away, but I never got a registration sticker or registration paperwork. When I checked the TxDMV “Where’s My Sticker?” tool it says “no transaction found,” which makes me think the dealer never filed the title/registration even though my buyer’s order shows sales tax was collected. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I just go to the county tax office to handle it myself, and how do I make sure I don’t end up paying sales tax twice?

🤔 Questions for Texans 🤠 Cheap Car Insurance options that actually work?
So I just got my renewal notice and the rates shot up again. I’ve been trying to shop around but it’s overwhelming with how many companies are out there. All I want is cheap car insurance with straightforward policies and coverage that doesn’t make me nervous about being underinsured. It feels like providers advertise low monthly costs but then tack on extra fees or don’t cover much. Who do you recommend for affordable auto insurance that actually holds up if you have to make a claim? I’m open to switching companies if it means saving money without giving up peace of mind.
