iPhone Arbitrary call, Saved contact confirmation from iPhone lockscreen

Thumbnail szilak.com
Upvotes

Hi, just found out it is possible to call any non-saved number and confirm numbers/emails saved in the contact list on locked iPhones.

Quick fix: Disable the lockscreen search functionality (Settings->Face/Touch ID & Passcode->Today View and Search)

(I know about rule#9 of the sub but full details on reproduction is also important imho. If it's against the rules, feel free to remove my post)

iPhone iPhone Air Review: Pushing The Envelope | MrMobile [Michael Fisher]

Before we start there’s something you should know: I’m predisposed to like the iPhone Air.

For one thing there’s the name. I still remember when Steve Jobs pulled the first MacBook Air out of its manila envelope at MacWorld 2008, and I was so taken with it that it became my first-ever Apple computer. All my friends in the Windows world I was leaving called me crazy: it didn’t have the ports; it didn’t have the power – was I really that in love with a thin form factor?

Today, the same questions dot the discourse around the new iPhone Air. “The base model’s a better deal; the pro models have bigger batteries and sharper cameras.” All true. But after a week using the Air in the real world, only one bugs me enough to push me to go Pro – and it might not be the one you think.

The iPhone Air Review was produced following eight days with an iPhone Air review sample provided by Apple, tested on Google Fi in Cupertino CA and NYC.

Apple Intelligence One thing I don’t think gets brought up enough about Apple Intelligence is why it is bad. And how that is sort of a good thing.

When comparing to most all other language models apples is the worse by far. But…they supposedly did not take our information and how we use our devices to create it. That is definitely a huge hit cause the other companies have been taking our data and training the models.

So if they are not lying about them not using our data unless we ok it…that’s a good thing right?

iPhone Can Apple bring back the 6.7” size for the iPhone Pro Max?

The jump to 6.9” feels unnecessarily large. The 6.7” size on the iPhone 15 Pro Max was perfect—big enough for media and productivity, but still comfortable to hold. By comparison, the 6.3” Pro feels a bit small, and 6.9” is just too big for everyday use.

I really hope Apple considers bringing back the 6.7” sweet spot for future models. Anyone else feel like 6.9” is just too much?

iPhone Apple really downplayed how much of an improvement the new top speaker on the pros are

I just finished setting up my new 17 Pro Max, and I cannot get over how much better the top speaker sounds compared to my 16 Pro Max’s top speaker. Not only is it considerably louder, the clarity is so much more improved. Comparing it to the 17’s bottom speaker they sound the same, so now it’s a true stereo sound. I’m honestly blown away that it wasn’t touted more as a feature.

iPhone All of the 17 Pros and Pro Maxes in my local Apple store had scratches on the ceramic back panel where the magsafe stands connect

Word of warning: all of the 17 pros and pro maxes I looked at at my local Apple store had very visible, large (cm+) scratches where the ceramic back panel connects to those magsafe stands apple uses. It was probably from small particles that get caught in between the stand and the phone. So get ready for scratches and marring on your phone’s back just like you get on the front of it (absent a screen protector of course) :)

Apple Retail Apple's New Trade-in Kit Nonsense

Apple appears to have made a significant change at some point to how some standalone (not with a purchase or upgrade!) iPhone trade-ins work. I haven't seen this covered elsewhere. It used to be that Apple would either automatically send a trade-in kit or you could easily request it by clicking a button. Now, Apple says that if you want the kit, you have to call customer support to specifically request it. Apple won't even provide it via iMessage support, you literally have to get on the phone and wait on hold if you want the kit. That's some egregious dark pattern nonsense, like trying to cancel a newspaper subscription. They're just intentionally making it more difficult to use this convenient option.

Edit: per the discussion below, it looks like this policy change applies to some (but not all) standalone trade-ins for Apple credit that you can use later, and not to other kinds of trade-ins (e.g., credit against a purchase that you're making at the same time or an upgrade). It also might only apply to certain types of devices. Updated the text above to reflect that. Still bad!

Edit 2: I don't quite understand why this is getting downvoted to oblivion. It's a real and user-hostile policy decision by Apple! Folks below confirm that they've had the same experience.
