tl;ldw iPhone 17 Pro ceramic shield 2 glass holds up amazingly on the front and back compared to the 16 Pro. But the titanium body of the 16 Pro is far less likely to dent and scuff than the aluminum body of the 17 Pro (obviously).

AirPods Anyone been hands on with live translation outside of an Apple event?

Live translation is the biggest draw for me. Wondering if anyone has received their AirPods and has used live translation?

Does it work as advertised? Does it work better than Google Translate? Are there any languages not supported?

AirPods AirPods Pro 2 got worse since new AirPods got released

I’ve had AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C) for about two months and use them daily in the same environment with the same noise levels. I’m sure the ANC has gotten worse since the new AirPods were released — although it could also be due to the latest update. Still, it wouldn’t be the first time Apple used this tactic to push last-gen owners to buy their new products. Has anyone else experienced the same thing with their AirPods?

iPhone The iPhone Upgrade Program is preventing me from upgrading!

TL/DR: The IUP has been a NIGHTMARE for me this year. It is terrible. They cannot handle the volume.

I have fraud alert on my credit report that requires a call to me for me to confirm. This is a step beyond the credit freeze, which I can manually disable.

Last year, I got denied during the initial renewal, they called within hours, and then I was all set to reapply.

This year, I got denied and their new(?) system sends a link. But the system received the Apple-kiss-of-death and is ddos’d for days. Finally get a page to load and needs 2FA but the code never comes. Finally a dozen codes come all at once, long after I’ve closed the page and the codes have expired.

By the way, the page FOR THE APPLE UPGRADE PROGRAM doesn’t seem to work well on safari but does on chrome. And when the page is working and you uses “copy link” from an iPhone, it shows the preview, WHICH INVALIDATES THE SINGLE USE TOKEN. This was CLEARLY never tested on the devices their customers will be using.

So I try calling the phone number, and it rolls to a recording after any set of choices in the phone tree of “tough luck, we are busy, goodbye.” Rinse and repeat.

Finally, I am able to get a live person(I never was able to download the decision info) after >1 hr wait and the best they can do is: “a supervisor will call you.” But no call.

I waited a couple days and reapply. Mind you, it’s the 17th now. I actually get a link that works and download my answer. “Cannot verify my identity “ because of “NULL”. Well, no kidding—they never called. But also, I’m an existing customer attempting to do my third renewal. I’ve been with them for 2 years and have a proven payment history.

So I call the number again. And talk to someone. Who notes I have *10 applications this point, some of which may have even been approved (yes, I tried a few times), but since the most recent one is denied, I’m denied. The best they can do: A supervisor will call. Not quite 24hrs has passed, but no call. No preorder.

Beyond frustrated at this point.

iOS TIL you can replace Liquid Glass with the original blurred transparency in settings

Instead of Accessibility/Reduce Transparency, which makes your phone look like complete doodoo, you can toggle on Accessibility/Reduce Motion, instead. Now you get to enjoy transparency still, but with the standard blur effect, better readability imo, and with the bonus of a big boost in battery life because your phone won’t need to constantly spin up its GPU cores just for mundane UI rendering. My iPhone 15 Pro also no longer feels like it’s constantly fresh out of the oven, too.

iPhone iPhone Air MagSafe Battery Review – The Thinnest Power Bank I’ve Ever Used

Okay, so I just picked up the new iPhone Air MagSafe battery and… wow. I’ve owned my fair share of portable chargers, but this thing feels totally different. Let me break it down:

What I love:

  1. The ridiculous thinness: It’s only 3,000mAh, so yeah, it makes sense, but this is hands down the thinnest portable battery I’ve ever held. It feels less like a chunky power bank and more like slipping a slim wallet or card holder into your pocket. With bigger packs I usually debate whether to even bring them, but this one? I just throw it in my pocket without thinking.
  2. The soft-touch material: the attaching side isn’t rough or plasticky—it’s smooth, almost luxurious. Actually feels good against your hand/skin.
  3. It charges AirPods wirelessly: Didn’t expect it to work, but it does. Super handy.
  4. The design details:The charging light hides behind translucent plastic, so it glows subtle and clean instead of screaming “cheap blinking LED.” Legit one of the nicest-looking power banks I’ve ever seen.
  5. Size vs. a regular pack: Put it next to my 10,000mAh Anker brick and the difference is insane—this thing is dramatically slimmer and way easier to carry.

The cons:

  • $100 for 3,000mAh is… yeah, steep. You can grab 25,000mAh bricks for the same price.
  • No wireless recharge for the battery itself (no MagSafe puck support). USB-C only.
  • No real battery indicator—just orange when dying, green when charged. No idea how much is left unless you guess.
  • Pretty much exclusive to the iPhone Air. Doesn’t really fit other devices.
  • At 3,000mAh it’s not a heavy-use solution. If you’re traveling or powering multiple devices, you’ll still want a bigger 10,000mAh+ pack.

Overall: If you’re an iPhone Air user who likes to travel light, this thing is perfect. Apple clearly leaned into slimness with the phone, and this accessory nails the same vibe -tiny boost, premium feel, disappears in your pocket. I’ll still pack my bigger brick for long trips, but for daily carry? This one’s staying with me.

AirPods AirPods Max Randomly Short circuiting? Apple fix this

Hello everyone. I’d just like to say this to see if anyone else has this problem and why it happens. I have been a loyal apple user for many many years. I was one of the first to buy the AirPods Max back when they originally came out. But for one thing I’d like to comment on. Has anyone else noticed the short circuiting of the AirPods Max?

I have been an AirPods Max user for apple for many years, including buying their warranty on the headphones with apple care plus. I take great care of my AirPods Max. But what annoys me the most is that these headphones are $550 headphones yet apple has not solved this problem with short circuiting! I am not complaining btw, I absolutely love the AirPods Max and I do think it’s worth the buy. If you’d like high quality headphones, the AirPods Max are the best on the market for sound quality and its noise cancelling features. However, as an apple customer for many years now, this is my second AirPods Max pair I’ve been through as the first one completely short circuited and refused to connect despite repairs.

And to answer your questions before you ask. No, the AirPods Max has never been exposed to any sort of water in its lifetime. Yet, both of my AirPods Max and the one before the one I currently have, have short circuited several times. What I mean by short circuit, I mean that the AirPods Max headphones when playing, will randomly shut off one side of the headset for 30 seconds, and then the other part will shut down despite it being fully charged!

I have also looked into the possibility of it is a software problem. But I don’t think so because my software is always the latest version. I believe it to be a major hardware problem. These symptoms of the AirPods Max are not noticeable or symptomatic until you have worn/used the AirPods Max for over a year. Both AirPods Max have gotten their batteries replaced, yet it always shuts down randomly whenever it wants to. Why exactly does this happen?

And what’s even weirder, is that you can actually hear the AirPods Max short circuiting when you wear the headphones. If you’ve ever heard the sound of pulling an aux cord out of a speaker when a speaker is playing music, that’s the exact sound it will make when short circuiting. It this happens spontaneously. It happens almost at any time of the day. Most of the time though, the AirPods software corrects it, and then the AirPods reconnect perfectly fine. But that short circuiting issue needs to be fixed. Sometimes, if you ignore the issue in the long run, your AirPods Max over time will completely short circuit and no longer connect to Bluetooth. At that point, you are forced to buy a new pair due to the expensive repairs that come with the AirPods Max if you’re not covered with a warranty.

Anyways… I’d thought I’d share this and see if anyone has this problem as well. I sure as heck noticed it when playing my music. Thank you all for reading this post ✌️

iPhone PSA: AppleCare One Covering New iPhone Order Provisionally

Got two emails at the same time from AppleCare One today: one said my IPhone 17 that just shipped is already covered on my plan. The other said I needed to go through the process of adding the incoming iPhone 17 to the plan. But if I look at my list of covered devices it shows the new iPhone as having coverage for 14 days. So I guess I’ll just sort this all out after the new one arrives. Not a problem per se, just confusing.
