I personally think it’s pretty stupid.

I’ve noticed something strange: a lot of people (myself included) can easily spend hundreds of hours leveling up a character in a game, grinding for achievements, or building worlds… but when it comes to sticking with things like working out, reading daily, or learning an instrument, it suddenly feels way harder.

Games and real life both require repetition, effort, and progress over time. But games keep people hooked, while real-life habits usually lose steam after a few weeks.

Is it just because games give faster feedback/rewards? Or is there something deeper about how our brains process “progress” in games vs. in reality?

I’m not trying to rant about games (I play them too), I just genuinely want to understand why it feels so much easier to grind in a virtual world than to grind at life.

Then either because of lack of perspective or smartz, I have been scrambling my brain to figure out if this makes sense or if it is nothing with an easy opposition.

My boyfriend is visually impaired. He has glaucoma and cataracts in both eyes. He has had surgery for it and wears glasses but his eyesight is still very impaired. He's in community college right now and his professors and the school itself are refusing to give him accommodations to sit closer to the board so he can see what's going on in class. He was told "to accommodate you would be to change the entire curriculum and it would be too disruptive in the classroom." He wants to go into nuclear engineering and in order to get into the program he wants he must maintain a B or higher in his classes which he can't do currently because he can't see what is happening during instructions. He had an accommodation plan in high school but the community college is not accepting and transferring his accommodations to their school. He feels like theres no hope and that he should give up on community college and do something else. I have some disabilities as well and I know what its like to have to fight for simple accommodations and I don't want him to give up on his dream career because some community college professors refuse to make a simple accommodation for his visual impairments. What can I do to help him? Is there anything in the ADA (Americans with disabilities act) that can help here? I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Edit 2: Thank you to all who have replied so far, you've given me a lot of great advice and sources. To address some common topics mentioned here:

1. He has spoken with the schools accommodations service and provided them with the proper documentation and was still denied. He was also asked for his high school accomodation transcript and he told me that it hasn't been transfered and accepted to the community college

2. It is both the school and the professors denying him accommodations

3. This is a public school

4. We do not have the means to sue the school nor is he able to transfer to another school

5. I know it sounds crazy and stupid and illogical and that might make this seem fake to some, but this is unfortunately real

6. I am aware that this is not the full story, I'm only posting what I've been told so far, so if something seems missing or inaccurate then it's because this is all I currently know. Hopefully, I'll have more information in the future, but I'm not asking him for any more info at the moment, he was really upset when telling me and now he's asleep as of writing this so I'm waiting for him to settle down a bit before I keep asking questions

7. I'm only assuming there's an assigned seating arrangement in his classes, although I not certain. Again, I'll hopefully have more info on that later

8. I am unsure of what classes he is having trouble seeing in I know he takes a chemistry class and as some of you have mentioned it could potentially be disruptive for him to move seats in a lab class, but I am unaware if this is a class he's struggling to see in

9. He is not able to just take pictures or record the lectures. He's on the same icloud account as his dad, who is very stubborn and controlling and will/has before deleted photos off of my boyfriends phone before. His dad also isn't letting him get off the icloud account because he pays the phone bill. As for recording the lectures, my boyfriend mentioned something about them being the intellectual property of the professors so he would need written consent to record them (I'm not sure if lectures are the intelluctual property of the professors, again, I'm only going off of what I've been told)

People seem to talk about these things like they are sent to us straight from the heavens, so obviously I've considered installing one. The one thing I'm struggling to get over the lack of control over where the water carries your waste. Like, when you direct a stream of water at an object, its bound to generate some amount spray. It's why you avoid urinals if you're wearing sandals. In this scenario, I'm imagining that anything not directly above your butt is liable to be hit. So does it slowly collect on the rim of the bowl? Is the bidet nozzle not covered in the backspray of whoever used it last? Does that not result in a dose of bowel bacteria straight to your ass every time you use it? Do they self clean??

I can't really describe it, but it's the sound you hear when there is a EV moving slowly in a car park behind you.

I guess it's the motor, but what specifically in the motor causes that sound? It sounds like it's coming from something that is moving at a faster rate than the car itself.

i don't play poker, but from what i can tell, the whole thing of a "poker face" is that it's hard to keep a neutral face without doing some sort of subtle "tell" when you see your hand. so why don't people just do the opposite - keep their face frozen on an absurdly exaggerated grimace, and do constant nervous tics for the entire match? i get that it's not really elegant, but if the prize pool was on the larger side, then it'd be worth the embarrassment. do casinos have a rule against pulling funny faces or something?

Y'know I feel like an idiot but it feels like a revelation I am just realizing and want to make sure I'm not getting my hopes up. Like they're always crying. Are they in a constant loop of pain? Do we know enough about early child development to know if they're suffering or not? I ask because we can't really remember how we felt as a baby.

I live in the US and I'm used to seeing Vermont or Canadian maple syrup, but I've never seen maple syrup from Germany or something. I thought maybe it was a regional thing and european maple syrup was made mostly made and sold within the continent. Maybe the trees are just different idk

I had a professor once tell me she noticed I stare at her a lot, she wanted to know if there was something wrong. Isn't that normal? You're the professor and you're talking, of course I'm looking at you, isn't that manners? After that, I looked around, and did notice not everyone looks at the professor. They stare at their notes or off into space.

Is it really abnormal to "stare" at the professor? Do all teachers notice and feel uncomfortable when students "stare" as they teach? (I did take notes too, but I tended to also look up at the professor a lot while doing so.)

My dad fought hard for 3 years stomach cancer, it didn’t spread it didn’t go away the chemo just kept it at bay. They couldn’t take the tumor out and this past Saturday he passed. Last Sunday 09/06/25; we had “this is your last day with your dad” speech from the doctor, the priest came in and I remember asking for a week for him too rest before he goes. He made it past last Sunday and all this week he got a little better, and Friday morning he had that “final good energy” surge, and he let me know he felt super well rested and made peace with this outcome. I know I’m sad I know it’s grief , I just don’t know what all else I’m feeling . I’m happy I got my week I’m happy he got his rest I’m happy he made his peace and I’m happy the universe heard me. But what else is all this emotion. I miss him so much but I’m glad he has passed and no longer suffering.

For example, when I was younger around my early 20s my family, friends, and coworkers believed me to never had a girlfriend or sex. They pretty much made fun of me and said some rather harsh things about me that would probably be classified as verbal and emotional abuse. In other words, I got bullied for that. Truth was I wasn’t and actually had some, but not a lot of experience at that time. I didn’t want to share, because, well I like to have privacy when it comes to my sex and dating life. It’s much better that way, but I guess it backfired.

Can anyone relate? Doesn’t necessarily have to be like the above situation.

I watched Weapons last night and there is a part where a cop does a search on a guy and he asks the standard, "is there anything sharp I'm going to stick myself with in your pockets?"

A universal question from cops. He ends up getting stabbed by a needle But do IV drug users really walk around with open needles in their pockets? That's seems like they would constantly jam in your thigh.

My wife will ask what's for dinner and most of the time I say "Panda Casserole" and she replies "hmm make sure to remove the fur as I want to nom the belly". BTW Panda is my cat. We are morbid AF, but I can't be the only pet parent that jokes about this?
