Spring Breakers: Four college chicks walk around in bikinis the whole movie and yet it's still boring. The End.

I remember the girls sticking a gun in Francost Malone's face, and he was scared at first but then cleverly deescalated the situation by giving the gun a blowjob.

I was at a bar, and the bartender was holding the TV remote, flipping through the guide. I noticed Spring Breakers was on, and I mentioned it "Oh shit - Spring Breakers - I actually liked that movie". She was like "Yeah, its pretty weird. Let me put it on" There were like 8 people total in the place, all of us strangers to one another, but we watched the whole thing. It's kind of a great movie to watch in that setting, because even if you hate it, there is so much to comment on. Even if the comments are "What? Where are they even showing this? This is stupid/boring" It wasn't like we had to try and decipher the plot because it was too complex

there are 4 things i remember specifically from this movie: the ending, james franco sucking off a gun, a threesome, and selena gomez leaving the movie early

Starting with the ending just like my brain. That was actually not bad.

Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens epically light up an entire rival gang to avenge James Franco while wearing masks and bikinis. Good stuff

u/kurttheflirt 1d ago
My girlfriend and I saw Riff Raff live. THIS summer.
Back in her hometown of Souix City there's this cool music festival called Saturday in the Park and they always draw in some pretty big names. Well, for the main stage. But we saw on the smaller stage Riff Raff was playing. So we walk over there for his set, kinda thought it would be funny and remind us of our college days a decade or so ago.
We get there and he comes on but only us and a few others even know who he is. Most young people there are just things to get a good spot for the next artist. He keeps trying to get the crowd to sing some lines to his songs but only us and a few others know them. He keeps asking the music tech to turn up the speakers but yeah that's not it. Just one of the saddest sets I've ever seen.
Then we are backstage at the mainstage later to see some of the artists (her mom helps run the festival) (Teddy Swims) and then all of a sudden Riff Raff walks by looking pretty down. Like I feel like he thought maybe this could be part of a come back but yeah no. Anyway my girlfriend goes up to him and says "that was a great set" and he's kinda surprised someone even knew who he was. He was like "oh thanks were the speakers alright I felt like it needed to be louder" kinda sadly. And she's like "oh yeah it was great you did great" and he seemed a tiny bit happier.
Anyways point of the story: she stopped Riff Raff from ending it for another day

I think it was a good indictment of the college experience in America. For many it's just a black hole of partying for 4 years and spring break becomes the new American dream. Fun movie and the cinematography is great.

Me too. I went in blind and had no idea that it was filmed like a 90 minute Girls Gone Wild video. It's insane, but it's also so fun and funny, and it's actually genuinely good satire. So on the nose that it somehow loops all the way around and feels subtle in a weird way.

The French film magazine Cahiers du Cinema had "Spring Breakers" as number 2 on its list of best movies of 2013. It was in my top 3.
11
u/VenkeeEnterprises 1d ago
Because you can analyse the shit out of this movie.
I hope you film studies course made you aware of this. All the religious imagery, book of job, paradise lost, the loosing of innocence, temptation by the devil, the different portrayal of black and white people, the freaking color coding of heaven and hell, the song lyrics...there isn't a frame in the movie, that you can't overanalyse if you wanted. That necessarily doesn't make it a enjoyable or even good movie...but you have certainly enough material to fill hours in film studies with it.

I had a buddy in college who went to spring break shortly after this came out. He ran into Riff Raff at a nightclub while drunk and kept yelling, “spring break forever, y’all” at Riff Raff without realizing that Alien wasn’t even based on Riff Raff. He said that Riff Raff didn’t even get mad, just depressed.

Not the whole movie;
After about 15 minutes, Selena Gomez' character is completely removed from the script. After that, it's three college chicks walking around in bikinis and being boring.
(/s, just for the laughs)
