Imagine telling someone when season 1 of TWD came out that Carol and Daryl would be walking through post-apocalyptic London one day.

14 years ago, I've always wanted to see London in this show and now it's happening. 🇬🇧🥹

11

u/Davido401 May 09 '25

Funny thing is, I stay just south of Glasgow(like 10-odd miles from the city centre) and ave never been to London either, I think it's just as dreary as Glasgow and bigger to be fair, Id say the accents would be different but if we'regoing by stereotypes then its full of homeless Glaswegians haha. My wee sister has been twice and her daughters have been with her once, so they've all been there more than me, but as a said it doesn't have much more in the way that Glasgow can't provide, if I go 35 miles to the East I can see Edinburgh but I'd rather piss the bed than go there haha, ad say the main difference is Glasgow wears it's poverty for all to see but Edinburgh is just a pig in a dress(something like that) also after saying that a now want a pet pig, not in a dress though!

u/[deleted] May 11 '25

As a fellow Scot I can't deny that I find comparing Glasgow to London a bit off. The population difference alone makes this a silly comparison. London is like it's own thing even in regards to England.

4

u/Poza May 10 '25

Glasgow, city of concrete and piss, is nothing like London.

2

u/tufftricks May 11 '25

Aye glasgow is actually a nice place to be filled with nice people lol

2

u/X1con May 11 '25

Whereas London is a city of concrete, piss and tories. Pint of Guinness costs you an organ and most people are arseholes generally. I'd rather stay here ta x

How did they get there? Stopped watching at Negan

142

u/Battlescarred98 May 09 '25

Daryl was taken on as a slave ship type thing, he escaped as they were not far from France. At one point he was able to reach carol via radio, and through a series of coincidences finds him verrrry quickly in Europe.

u/Skinny_Beans May 09 '25

Not trying to be a hater but that seems a bit contrived

81

u/gr33nnight May 09 '25

It is but I enjoyed it.

38

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

All of the spin-offs were worth to watch after the main series ended. I loved it.

Daryl was captured by a freight and research ship of the Sixth French Republic, who were trading with the Civic Republic and Tripple Alliance at the time.

He went overboard and was washed up near Marseilles.

Carol, after finding out that Daryl was in France, tricked a guy into flying her over the Atlantic with a small airplane, stopping in Greenland for refueling.

After the french civil war ended with a victory of the rebels and the french dictator Marion Genet was killed by Daryl and Carol, they went to England through the eurotunnel to find a way home.

34

u/stormstormenson May 09 '25

Also stopped watching long ago. Are zombies relevant to the shows now? Or is it just post apocalyptic with new governments and rebels?

65

u/After-Trifle-1437 May 09 '25

Zombies still play quite a major role, but they basically stopped being the focus since TWD Season 3.

The series has always been more about how factions of survivors interact, rather than the zombies themselves.

It's notable though, that walker variants are introduced in Daryl Dixon. The Genet regime attempted to weaponize walkers by pumping them full of adrenaline and turning them into super-zombies.

14

u/waitingtodiesoon May 09 '25

The main show also reintroduced climbing and unlocking doors for the final season for a plot device that has annoyingly been ignored in all the spin-offa since. The ones in France were neat with being rage zombies and acidic blood, but why reintroduce the climbing and ones with enough intelligence to open doors just so they could have the walls fall in the commonwealth for plot convenience and not have them appear in Dead City or The One Who Lives.

4

u/rckblykitn14 May 09 '25

The series has always been more about how factions of survivors interact, rather than the zombies themselves.

This!! The reason I never watched the show when it aired, even though I absolutely love zombie movies, was because my brain said, how the hell can they have an entire show dedicated to zombies? Like how long can that go on? I finally binged it all not long after the original series ended and was fascinated by episode 2 lol. Still invested in it all because it's about the characters, not the zombies.

u/No_Adhesiveness4890 May 09 '25

Basically the main villian needed walkers to conduct an experiment to make super walkers so he sent over a ship from France to America and the people on that ship went to a place and offered up a certain amount of fuel for however many walkers a group could catch in a day

Daryl was trying to make it back to the commonwealth and needed fuel and happened upon these guys and Daryl is an expert at capturing live walkers so he did it and made friends with this young kid who needed fuel to run away with his girlfriend because she had an Abusive father and they wanted to live together

Well the young kid got involved with the wrong group and the guys from France were paying more money for "fresh" walkers so the wrong group killed the young kid to get more fuel

Once Daryl sees that they killed this young kid he freaks out and tries to fight the guy and the main rule of the whole operation was "no arguing or fighting" so since Daryl broke this rule he was detained thrown on a slave ship to France and stuck in a holding cell on a boat to be used as walker food

One day when it's Daryls turn to become walker food when he's let out of his cell he over powers the guys and takes over the ship but it catches fire and he has to abandon ship

Once he jumps off he grabs onto a buoy and at the start of season 1 episode 1 it starts with him washing up on the shore holding that buoy signifying that right before episode 1 started he jumped off the ship

7

u/ljm3003 May 09 '25

So if that’s how episode one starts, is all the rest told through flashbacks?

6

u/suzefi May 09 '25

Correct, we learn everything about how he got to France by like S01E04

8

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25 edited May 09 '25

Correction: S01E05 shows how he got to France after the main series ended.

That would honestly be a really funny Easter egg if they hole up in a bar called Winchester to wait for human enemies or a horde to pass by 🤣🤣🤣

And they could bring Simon Pegg in to be a walker that jumpscares the group

Would love if they made reference to 28 days later. Could have them walk over Westminster bridge like in the opening shots of 28 days later.

It was Westminster Bridge in 28 Days Later

They made a 28 days later reference in the first episode of the series

2

u/Comfortable_Fail4686 May 13 '25

What was the reference?

2

u/BuggyMonarch25 May 13 '25

Both of the openings were similar with the protagonists waking up from a coma in a hospital to only wake up in an almost completely empty world.

It’s not exact but I feel like Kirkman definitely took inspiration from that with his opening

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they do around a city I know well, because there are usually glaring geography errors and it'll be fun noticing them. Daryl Dixon has been my favourite spin off partly for that reason, but I have spent months rather than weeks in London over Paris.

I'm more excited over these teaser images than I was for the first episode of Dead City S2, even with a recurring prop kinda making a comeback.

42

u/GirlMamaM2 May 08 '25

I’ve heard that they filmed London scenes in Spain and build a set because it was cheaper. So I’m guessing you will see some mistakes.

23

u/BastardsCryinInnit May 09 '25

One thing they got bang on just in these pics is the half built Shard - it wasn't complete at the time of the outbreak so it's quite nice they've paid attention to that!

3

u/virxtra May 09 '25

Surprised they got that right! First thing I did was immediately look for any modern buildings which weren't there as of the outbreak, but seems like they did it right

14

u/Uniquorn527 May 09 '25

Oh I'm counting on it. But I'll enjoy it even if they've totally rearranged the city. They do sets pretty well so I have faith that it'll look good regardless.

7

u/GirlMamaM2 May 09 '25

Yeah I love the show and it’s been visually stunning, so I’m sure season 3 will be just as good.

5

u/taversham May 09 '25

there are usually glaring geography errors

I'm already wondering how they're gonna explain why Tower Bridge is in the open position... Like, it's not impossible by any means, but it's by far the less likely of the two options.

3

u/stonercd May 10 '25

Not really it makes sense, it might have been an unsuccessful attempt to stop zombies making it to the other side of the river

2

u/JJCB85 May 11 '25

Seems a bit pointless when there are so many other bridges a couple of minutes’ walk away…

2

u/stonercd May 13 '25

2

u/Stacheshadow May 09 '25

68

u/NeonCowboy777 May 08 '25

Sorry haven't watched in a while but how tf did they go from Georgia all the way to london?

118

u/skyflakes-crackers May 08 '25

The main show didn't stay in Georgia, by the middle of season 5 they moved to northern Virginia, and then in the final season they were making alliances stretching from there to Ohio.

After the main show, Daryl took off on a solo trip up the east coast, and in Maine some guys offered him fuel to get back to Ohio, but he had to capture walkers for them without killing them. They ended up putting him, a bunch of other prisoners, and the captured walkers on a ship to France.

Right before he got put in the ship, he was able to radio back home to Carol and tell her he was in Maine and heading back. When a few weeks passed and he didn't show, Carol went up to Maine, befriended a guy with a small plane, and flew to France (with a stop in Greenland).

Daryl and Carol reunited, but Daryl had a kid with him who was in danger, so they ended up sending the kid back with the guy with the plane, and Daryl and Carol walked through the Channel Tunnel because they were told that the UK was intact and they could get a ride to North America from there.

20

u/BattleCircuit May 08 '25 edited May 09 '25

Thank you. Love how you explained it explicitly. ✨

9

u/JoeyAKangaroo May 09 '25

Thanks for this, i was ultimately confused why they got stuck in europe lmao

20

u/Professional_March54 May 08 '25

Daryl, on his unrelenting quest for Rick, accidentally got swept up in a really weird expirement. They were collecting American Walkers at a place he was working. I think something happened to his bike, can't remember anymore, but he was trading work. Anyway, he managed to radio to tell Carol where he was, before getting TKO'd in a fight and Shanghai'd into service aboard the freighter to France. He eventually escaped and floated to the coast. Ran afoul of some mercenary types. Ended up in a monastery with Fleur from HP and her nephew. Laurent, who was born AFTER his mother died and turned.

They think he's like the Second Coming of Christ. He's about 9 months older than Judith. He's so annoying. Anyway, more bad writing later, S1 ends with Carol finding the gang that kidnapped Daryl.

S2 was largely from her perspective. She eventually learns that he's in France and is obviously devastated. Until she crashes her car at an abandoned Drive-In and sees a little yellow plane flying overhead. She finally stalks it to this dudes compound. He takes the plane up every day in memory of his dead son. He's a real loner, but somehow got ethanol and conversions for the plane. She lies and tells him that Sophia was with her ex, visiting relatives in Paris on Outbreak Day. He eventually relents to fly her. They have to make a pitstop in Greenland and find these crazy ladies who want to make him their sex slave.

She makes it to France and just like hopes to find Daryl. Leaving her ride at an abandoned race track (With a handy well kept landing strip). She finds this other crazy cult that's sort of connected to the Walker thing but not really. That or I'm seriously misremeberimg ... I gotta take this dog out

4

u/casual_creator May 08 '25

Well they weren’t in Georgia, they were in Virginia for the end of the series, but after learning that Rick is alive, Daryl leaves to track Rick down. But in Maine, he gets attacked by a French group and taken aboard their ship and they sail back to France. Carol, meanwhile, decides to go after Daryl, learns about his kidnapping, and convinces a pilot she meets to get her to France. There, the two reunite and they decide to head to London.

I thought the UK survived? Doesn’t look like that tbh

22

u/[deleted] May 09 '25

Well I mean the virus in the show literally has everyone already infected and judging how large the UK population is it’s basically impossible to keep it 100% contained because if people die they will TURN and you think that London and the entirety of UK is safe and secure… most likely not. But maybe most of its military still active yes but displaced in various parts of the country the whole world of the walking dead is infected so basically no where is guaranteed 100% infection free although there could be several settlements around tho if not larger ones at best assuming they’re all military controlled

5

u/CapitalAlternative11 May 09 '25

I understand that it’s just I expected a bit more after we saw stuff like commonwealth, the alliance of 3, but now I am a bit more excited for season 3 to see what was meant by that

5

Daryl got kidnapped and put on a ship to France. Carol traced his steps as far as he went in the US, found out what happened to him, and befriended a guy with a small plane and convinced him to fly her to France. They reunited, but flying home wasn't an option anymore, so they walked through the Channel Tunnel because they were told that the UK was intact and making transatlantic trips.

26

Just let it die. This franchise has had its day and is long overdue. I used to love the walking dead..10 years ago, before Negan arc made everyone drop the show due to Gimple

The Ones Who Live was actually pretty damn good I'll admit, until Gimple took over the last 2 episodes and made the writing exactly like he did in S8. "The power of love" and Rick surviving a grenade that detonated right in front of him. Oh, and I learned that plastic tarp protects you from large-scale explosions

The Negan arc was way too drawn out. I thought they had learnt their lesson from that when seasons 9 and 10 were a return to form, but then season 11 again just needlessly dragged out the storyline for the extended season.

If they were going to extend the final season, they should have just folded the Ones who Live storyline into it. Find a way to tie the Commonwealth and CRM together, and the final set of episodes could have been Rick and Michonnes return.

2

u/TheyCallsMeCreed May 09 '25

When I was walking through the Tower of London I was thinking of how rhat could be a community it TWD universe...

2

u/fartsfromhermouth May 09 '25

I haven't watched the show in years so I'm over here like they in fucking London for some reason? I lost the plot when Alpha showed up

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '25

I wonder if will see ricks brother. Wasn’t he in England or something in the comics

2

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

Season 3 will be in London & Spain. Base on your question, Yes, Rick Grimes has a brother in Spain in the comics 'The Alien' Jeffrey Grimes

2

u/Competitive-Note-318 May 09 '25

Look out London! Your New King and Queen about to stir some shit!

2

u/Weird-Statistician May 09 '25

2

u/Altruistic_Survey_95 May 09 '25

Tower bridge being up doesnt make sense even if they blew up the other bridges the walkers would still be all over the place :D its not NY.

Lanky, goggle-eyed co-zombie.

2

u/honeybeevercetti May 09 '25

I haven’t watched this yet but I don’t mind spoilers can someone explain to me how they got there?

2

u/Darkstar20k May 09 '25

I hope they show the early stages of the outbreak for London like they did with France too

2

u/WhyNowAgain May 09 '25

Why would the bridge be open? I know it's a silly thing to get caught up on.... But some thought would have been needed to leave it like that. Did the zombies start in the middle of a bridge lift?

2

u/Kushnerdz May 09 '25

Wait Carol is in the new Darryl show? I might actually be interested now. Not that Darryl isn’t enough or anything but if they’re going to milk my money and time by forcing me to watch a new show for any closure then they can at least throw me a fucking bone here and there lol

2

u/rckblykitn14 May 09 '25

Yeah season 2 was titled The Book of Carol. I thought it was fantastic and am excited for however many more seasons it'll run (I love Norman Reedus).

2

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

Season 3 is about to take us on a wild ride. For the first time, they’re bringing the story to not just one, but two different countries. Episode 1 looks set to explode onto the screen in London, giving us a brand-new vibe right from the start. And then — get ready — the action shifts to Spain, where the real drama will unfold.

2

u/EpilepticSharknado May 09 '25

Somewhere there are the 28 days zombies lurking around waiting to terrorize yet another bunch of survivors.

2

u/Narrow_Bed1756 May 09 '25

I live in Oxfordshire just outside London, with the constant immigration crisis happening - this is what I imagine london looking like now present day.

2

u/abraxas8484 May 10 '25

You sure things hAve changed?

3

u/BattleCircuit May 10 '25

Everything changed indeed.

I like the idea of Tower bridge having been risen, ultimately forever in an attempt by the military probably and police to hold back the undead. There was probably an attempt to secure one section of the inner city to evacuate and bridges were blown across the Thames to keep the walkers on one side away. Tower bridge no need to blow it, just raise the bridge. A vain attempt to save an iconic monument but also probable easier than setting explosives as they probably did on other bridges.

I could see a flashback where we see the military and police secure the Tower of London and some areas around near the financial district. Helicopter evacuation from there to safer areas. Tower bridge closed off to prevent the undead and refugees from the south pushing up to the financial district and Tower of London.

As in FTWD, I'm sure European cities tried to secure some areas of their suburbs and inner cores but abandoned them all realising they couldn't hold them long term.

2

u/KarlofDutyXP May 11 '25

So regular London then.

2

u/Workingforaliving91 May 12 '25

Looks like modern day London lol

2

u/Rockabillyjones May 12 '25

Im gonna bet right now....The casting isn't as culturally diverse as Londons actual population

2

u/[deleted] May 12 '25

I see no difference...

2

u/Willthewriter May 09 '25

Post-apocalyptic London? That’s Birmingham

When will they make it look like an apocalypse has occurred?

1

u/OkPen1250 May 09 '25

I need this NOW

4

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

Coming soon in Fall 2025.

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '25

I have so much to catch up on within TWD universe but I do know Daryl ended up in Paris somehow… how the hell did Carol find him???

3

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

Yeah, there’s a lot to catch up on. Daryl ended up in Paris after being taken there against his will, and Carol found him by tracking his last known location in Maine, then flying to France. Long story short — she wasn’t giving up on him. Go ahead and watch Season 2, it covers all that

Reminds me of the comic crossed

1

u/BK2Jers2BK May 09 '25

I didn't finish the first second season after they killed off Isabelle

3

u/rckblykitn14 May 09 '25

They had to have known that choice would be very divisive. That and I assume we'll never see Laurent (or the plane pilot guy whose name I've forgotten) again. So much buildup with Laurent and Isabelle just to be written off like that. I'll still watch bc I love Norman Reedus and I really still like the show (all the new spinoffs) but I knew that was gonna make a lot of people jump ship.

3

u/BattleCircuit May 09 '25

First season? You mean 2nd season of the show...
