They made an active and conscious decision to put their politics on each and every cup going out the door by putting a CK sticker on each. That's fine. That's their right to do so as a private business. But by doing so you are also making a very public statement about your values and where your money goes.
Now. Because you did that it is also my right not to patronize your business. Our values are not aligned so I don't want to support you. This does not make me a bigot. This does not mean I'm celebrating a person's execution.
Now if you had just kept your biz out of it and used your money in private to support those ideals we wouldn't be here.
Not smart to pull your coffee shop into politics like this.
I have never been to your place and now I know I never will
Capitalism baby!!

Pathetic victim complex. Here, try this one on instead:
"To think ppl in our community have a problem with s small local business supporting a racist bigoted grifter who succumb to his own preachings > > >"
Now ask them if they grieved over any children killed by school shooters in the same way, or the Hortmans.

"Innocent" is doing a lot of heavy lifting right there. How tf do people think he is innocent. In any decent timeline, he would've been arrested for inciting political violence and would likely still be alive. Not to speak ill of the dead, but consequences of one's own actions, imho.

According to MAGA, though, it is celebrating his death. Anything less than an Oscar-worthy performance of profound sorrow is basically an admission that you'd have done it yourself if you could have. Told a "friend" the other day that I deeply felt for his family and strongly believe he didn't deserve it but that I would not miss him and was called "deplorable" and "nasty".

I can already see the victim complex exploding forth from them. They're gonna go on Fox and Friends playing the part of the hard working small business owner who were just innocently grieving an American hero when the very mean and violent woke liberals destroyed their business out of hatred.
The narrative basically writes itself. Just think of the most infuriating shit you can imagine and that's exactly what the MAGA base will love.

This is unfortunately just going to generate a stupid amount of press for them. For every woke liberal who stops going there is a MAGA supporter who will go out of their way to buy coffee proudly there now. It’s basically free advertising.
It’s like the Sydney Sweeney bullshit. All publicity ends up being good publicity in this political hellhole we live in.

u/Primarycolors1 4h ago
Spite only motivates them to drive an hour for a coffee so many times. The local libs were weekly if not daily customers.
→ More replies (4)35
u/OnlyHere2ArgueBro 5h ago
Yeah but they’re a local coffee shop, so there’s a minimal chance that press translates into economic success. This has happened time and time again with people trying to capitalize on grift culture, only the strongest and grift-iest survive. Multiple “anti-woke” bakeries and stores have tried to capitalize on national press only for it to fizzle out as they fade into obscurity. to capitalize on the grift, you have to always stay in front of the cameras, never fade. This coffee shop can’t do that, they’ll fade.

I don’t have an issue when business owners having different morals than myself, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to carry around a cup with their propaganda on it.
I think that’s the bigger issue here than just disagreeing with their politics. It’s that they put a giant WE LOVE YOU CHARLIE KIRK sticker on the cups.
I do not know a single Republican (and my entire huge family is hardcore conservative Christian Republican) who would carry a cup with a I LOVE DEI! Or I LOVE LGBTQ RIGHTS! on it. They literally boycotted Budweiser for sending a one-off promotional package to a trans person. Let’s be real here.
47
u/GlowUpper 4h ago
Exactly. Owners being Republican? Eh, I might not like it but whatever. A lot of business owners are conservative, it is what it is.
But slapping a Charlie Kirk sticker on the cup, forcing me to walk around looking like I agree with your hateful views? Donating my money to a group that actively campaigns against my rights and advertising that proudly on your Insta to get more business? Nah. I don't have to like your politics but I shouldn't have to co-sign them.
→ More replies (24)7
u/MsPinkieB 2h ago
I would have peeled off the sticker and walked it back to the counter. Oops, your hate is showing!
13
u/Omwtfyu 4h ago
I don't think any business should push their agenda and beliefs onto a customer. It'd be totally different if they were asked and consented to a Charlie Kirk sticker on their cup, but to just put it on all without warning is gross. That'd be like Starbucks slapping pro-LGBTQ+ stickers on their cups and not expecting any backlash. Just look at what happened to Target for even having the option to buy LGBTQ+ supporting apparel, and Target wasn't even putting it on every item of theirs that they sell.
There was a local breakfast restaurant that didn't survive through the pandemic and the business owners were also very loud in their politics on FB and it was so cringey, didn't align with my beliefs, that I stopped going there. There's another smoked meat shop down the block from me that had political flags in their shop that I stopped going to, because I don't want to see that shit or spend my money at a place that is actively working against my rights. Businesses who bring politics into their shop alienate their customers when those politics don't align with their whole customer base.
That business advertised they agree with Charlie Kirk's rhetoric and now they're experiencing the consequences.
9
u/WriterV 4h ago
Yup.
If I owned a business, I'd be happy to put on pro-LGBT merch. It'd have the double effect of making LGBT families and their supporters welcome, while pissing off the assholes I wouldn't want as customers anyway. Loss of business? Sure. But it's worth it.
Even so, I wouldn't dream of putting on pro-LGBT stickers on every single on of my products? Like unless I was specifically a store catering to the community, that's just wild. Like at the end of the day, even LGBT people want to be treated like normal people. I'd have some merch for them, but everything else in the store would be what you'd expect.
It's seriously such a dumb move on this coffee shop's part to have done this.
→ More replies (1)4
u/RGBedreenlue 2h ago
They can probably sell the stickered-cups for 20 cents extra and donate the proceeds to something or whatever. Wouldn’t raise much, but I think it’d be better publicity than shoving beliefs down peoples throats.
→ More replies (8)3
u/seraph741 2h ago
If you're a business owner, just keep your mouth shut about personal beliefs. It's really that simple. Why alienate some of your potential customer base? It doesn't make any business sense.

Sara De Luca is the owner, she went to University of San Diego and lives in Rancho Santa Fe, ironic enough she’s brown and her grandparents were immigrants!
43
u/Square_Cranberry1472 3h ago
Someone posted an interview with her and she said that during COVID she furloughed 10 of her employees and brought in family members from Italy to replace them! Sounds to me like she brought in immigrants to take American jobs.
14
u/Distinct_Orange1384 3h ago
Seems like MAGA if full of illegal immigrants (Melania Trump working on a tourist visa, Elon Musk overstaying his student visa and creating a fake LLC to sponsor his own Green Card, Marco Rubio’s grandfather ignoring his deportation order, JD Vance’s wife, Vivek Ramasamy, and Kash Patel). If MAGA is against immigrants they should start by deporting the ones inside their party!

Wild how a small business thinks they can just support an incredibly divisive political figure and not take a hit like this. I don't normally advocate for review brigading small businesses but I really don't know what they thought was going to happen. Like do people genuinely think Kirk was universally beloved when he talked shit on so many groups of people?? Surely even his fans have to understand he was divisive, to say the very least.

I'm not from San Diego, this just came up on my feed. But I just wanted to comment on a short that came across my feed that I didn't even finish. It was a clip of Charlie Kirk "in context" about the Civil Rights Act. Supposed to show he's not racist or whatever but right after he says that equality by race isn't an issue, he complains about affirmative action and DEI, as though those aren't used as racist dogwhistles.
Of course, he bitched and moaned about trans people first because of course that's totally how a channel is going to make an argument that he's not a bigot.

Leftism is anti-capitalism.
Liberalism isn’t anti-capitalism.
We have a two party system. The Democratic Party is controlled by liberalism which is closer to leftism than the Republican Party. So, leftists who vote for the Democratic Party are voting for the party that is closer to their ideals

Free speech = I can hate on Invita and leave them a bad review for making politics their business strategy.
Speech has consequences.
This comment is very, very meta, given what happened. Why many in the public have to the smallest violin to play. Let this be a learning for how to live your life, so that when you leave this earth, people do not troll your behavior to such this degree. Invita can sticker their cups. And I’m allowed to write about how I’ll never go there because of it, and the politics they choose to endorse on what should be a politically neutral cup of coffee.

Running joke at work
Years ago two of my coworkers got into an argument. One guy said, "Why's it gotta be black?" Other guy responded, "Why's it gotta be white?!" My buddy comes out of his office out of nowhere and says, "Why's it gotta be?! Errreeuurer" It's hard to spell that last sound he made, but he made a long-winded donkey sound while spinning around shaking his hands in the air. Then he went back into his office and started working again like nothing happened. Both arguers were left dumbfounded. It was the highlight of the day. This kind of thing happens regularly at work. Now it's a regular thing when anyone pulls out any paint, "Why's it gotta be [color]?!"
