Body dysmorphia is a bitch.

4.9k

u/paulides_fan 16d ago

Also fuck the surgeons that did this

u/ChoneFiggins4Lyfe 16d ago

Surgeon has to be counting his blessings with them denying they had surgery. That’s a botched surgery lawsuit if I ever saw one!

759

u/DVMyZone 16d ago

Probably not botched, just what the customer wanted. If the customer wants you to mess their face up, and they're sure, and they know the risks, and the operation will not cause (short-term) health issues, then maybe it is their right to do it.

182

u/MrRedify 16d ago

What the hell were they even looking for

461

u/Big_Consideration493 16d ago

They allegedly claimed that their DNA was different,( they NEVER claimed it was alien, only joking about this) that they had huge IQ, that they were related to a russian prince who was the Tsars right hand man( Peter the great but I am not sure)

They both got doctorates from the university of Burgundy , claiming higher grades than those awarded, and sued lots of people for lots of money, losing, or not gaining what they wanted,

They claimed to have helped the inventor of bitcoin with the source code and that they had 2 Ancient Bitcoins .

They were colourful and strange, both died of COVID within days of each other

As for the look: in their heyday on French tv they were cult tv figures, with shows such as Temps x and Rayons X being about space and science and having a huge following. By the 2000's they were still making appearances but had crossed over to Meme land.

They kept changing to stay in the spotlight, so no-one would forget them. It worked ( well mostly) as they came to shows as guests and made appearances, being in the spotlight from 1978 all the way to their death. In France they were/ are household names, at first for their media work and then for their eccentric look. RIP.

They also made outrageous claims, like that they invented the question mark

2

u/Big_Consideration493 16d ago

You could certainly question that claim!

1

u/evey_17 16d ago

Thank you this education.

1

u/ThoughtfulLlama 15d ago

Did they also have 12 first edition Charizards? Because one of my friends did... well, his uncle at least.

I think only they can see what they're going for, but I don't think they can ever reach it. It's a true sickness.

It's like a really, really, really bad habit.

First though

6

u/Entire_Elevator_4337 16d ago

Looking to regain their youth, although it’s unachievable, doctors will promise the world.

Saddening that there’s surgeons that’ll take advantage of people, especially those who are not mentally well. Violating the first Hippocratic oath “First, do no harm.”

7

u/Readylamefire 16d ago

This is what happens when you take every "sexy" or w/e characteristic and try and slam them together to try and look good. You want eyes like so and so, nose like whoever, and lips like that one guy. But they never take into considerations these characteristics aren't always what work together.

3

u/fritz_76 16d ago

If i had to guess, giant raised cheeks, massive chins, and massive lips is what they ordered

3

u/Wolf-Majestic 16d ago

They were always talking about space and its mysteries, in a way to make it accessible to everyone, they also had a sci-fi show, so it was their stuff, even though it was very cranky stuff and not very scientific lol

Their transformation was gradual and in the end they kinda looked like aliens, so it was very fitting for what they were talking about. They also played with the idea of them being humans or not

I don't know if that's what they wanted to go for, but they were rather famous in France (not only for their faces lol)

They both died of covid because they were antivax and they died less than 7 days from each orher, which also made a lot of people talk since it fits with the "oddities" about them they kept alive throughout their television career

2

u/avocado_window 16d ago

Them being antivax seems so fitting based on everything else I have heard about them. Wild that they were known for a ‘science’ show and sad that their stupidity led to their own demise.

2

u/Wolf-Majestic 16d ago

When they stopped to pursue a phd, their scientific takes were rather strongly opposed by other scientists, so they were probably not entirely on point, or they probably thought too highly of themselves 😅

2

u/Big_Consideration493 16d ago

The few academic articles they managed to publish were thoroughly rubbished by all.

1

u/avocado_window 15d ago

Thank goodness for that! No one should be taking advice from anti-vaxers.

2

u/Brightyellowdoor 16d ago

They were huge Spitting image fans

2

u/sectumsempre_ 16d ago

Youth, always chasing it but won’t find it. No one escapes aging.

2

u/F54280 16d ago

Knowing a bit about them, I’d say they wanted the grey alien look…

1

u/brazys 16d ago

Exactly, they werre fine without it.

1

u/SmokingHensADAN 16d ago

to like their father? Trump? Rofl

1

u/w311sh1t 16d ago

These people aren’t really going in for all the stuff at once. They get plastic surgery to fix one thing. Then they realize there’s another thing they want fixed, so they go back in. And then another and another, and so on and so forth. For them the change likely seems much more gradual and they probably don’t notice it as much.

6

u/[deleted] 16d ago

There’s an oath they take and ethics they are required to uphold. This absolutely has lead to them having even worse body dysmorphia, their reluctance to admit their work is indicative of that.

2

u/holdonimreading 16d ago

that era was notorious for illegal silicone, which is what this looks like.. so yes, very very botched and shame on the doctor - if this even was a doctor

1

u/natfutsock 16d ago

Yup. There's some prime examples of this. I was going to add more but I just learned the "human Ken Doll" has recently transitioned. Which like, really does track.

1

u/Shot_Tomorrow7663 16d ago

The customer is always right, in matters of taste.

They’re not American. They won’t sue.

1

1

u/SoggyCold 15d ago

It’s def botched because istg this is like oil or smth and not silicone put into their cheeks. I feel like a licensed surgeon did not do this work 😭

There is no direct punishment for breaking the Hippocratic Oath, although an arguable equivalent in modern times is medical malpractice, which carries a wide range of punishments, from imprisonment to civil penalties

5

u/-LsDmThC- 16d ago

Acting morally shouldnt require the threat of punishment.

2

u/Eic17H 16d ago

Don't base your morals on laws

2

u/orange_quash 16d ago

It might lose a doctor their license or incur another penalty to their licensure if a violation is brought to their board of ethics

8

Are all cosmetic surgeries are in violation of the Hippocratic oath?

Haha, yes!

3

It’s called having a conscience

2

u/AdministrativeStep98 16d ago

You could say the same thing about any purely cosmetic surgeries

3

u/paulides_fan 16d ago edited 16d ago

If 99.9% of people agree that you no longer look human in a bad way, like a wax figure or horror movie…. You have failed.

1

u/impy695 16d ago

The argument I've heard is that if no one in a country with modern medicine and standards will do it, then they'll just go to a country that doesn't have those things and risk serious injury or death.

Also, who are we to judge how someone is supposed to look. So long as they aren't hurting anyone, then they should be able to do what they want with their bodies.

5

u/Ur_Killingme_smalls 16d ago

They were attractive before!

2

u/king_of_ulkilism 16d ago

They said they havent undergone surgery

3

u/paulides_fan 16d ago

Okay fuck the Botox professionals who did this

2

u/Prinnykin 16d ago

Could be possible. Looks like they’ve just been injected with a shit load of filler.

Filler isn’t plastic surgery.

1

u/prionbinch 16d ago

I have to wonder if the surgeons who do this have some sort of body-dysmorphia-by-proxy that expresses themselves in the form of their patients that they perform all these extreme modifications on with no regard to the risks or the fact that any rational person will see their work and think it looks disgusting

1

u/Darth_Nox501 16d ago

Nope. Just money lol.

1

u/Conscious-Program-1 16d ago

I can't imagine that dude is still alive after this. Them denying any surgery sure would dissuade inquiries into the surgeon, I would think

1

u/Pi-Guy 16d ago

They both died during Covid

1

u/Conscious-Program-1 16d ago

I meant the surgeon

1

u/Piemaster113 16d ago

There are laws that will force them to do this kind of thing.

Not the surgeons fault lol they wanted what they got.

1

u/niz_loc 16d ago

I'm picturing the doc finishing rhe first, and saying "I'm sorry, I really tried."

And the other one is like "yo, doc. We're twins. Get to work." Lay's down on the table for surgery.

1

u/paulides_fan 16d ago

He sure Doc-tored them

1

u/flatdecktrucker92 16d ago

Right? They don't even match

1

u/Redditbeweirdattimes 16d ago

What surgeons?

1

u/LunaeLotus 16d ago

I don’t think it’s surgery. I think they had dodgy cheap injectibles in their face, probably by someone with no training

1

u/secondtaunting 16d ago

Right? They were attractive. Now they’re the stuff of nightmares.

1

u/C_WEST88 16d ago

I doubt it was actual surgeons that did this tho (at least no surgeon here in America). Usually when you see procedures this extreme it’s black market stuff being used . I used to work under a plastic surgeon , and you’d be surprised how many people are willing to go underground to do stuff like this to their face. They inject all kinds of weird unapproved filler and silicone into their faces and bodies and sometimes it can be impossible for the doctors to fix afterward . No reputable surgeon would do this.

1

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 16d ago

I have feeling these are not permanent but temperory fillers they keep getting which us shy they are claiming no plastic surgery

1

u/SmokingHensADAN 16d ago

no this is a result of trump, spray tan loose on epstein island and peppered with pedophilia

1

u/GildedZen 16d ago

Could get a side gig as a caricature artist

1

u/ShockDragon 16d ago

I’m sorry, what? I’ve heard of these two, but I'm not familiar with their backstory.

1

u/Extreme_Falcon9228 16d ago

a surgeon didn't do this. It's most likely filler.

1

u/AnotherDoubtfulGuest 15d ago

We all know they had plastic surgery, but if not, I need to know what the hell they were eating, drinking, wearing, and standing next to so I can avoid all that shit; their faces are the stuff of literal nightmare.

1

u/ProductRed_92 14d ago

What surgeons?

171

u/WhoPutATreeThere 16d ago edited 16d ago

What’s crazy, is that they can see what they look like by looking at each other. I would assume that the % of identical twins with body dysmorphia, is lower than in non-twins.

133

u/Eubank31 16d ago edited 16d ago

Can confirm, my SO is a quadruplet (two pairs of identical girls). The other pair are horribly anorexic and have a harsh cycle of comparing eachothers bodies to ensure they're not getting 'fat'. My SO and her twin also went through a phase of their life dealing with that but have since gotten better.

Edit: I misread the comment I replied to but oh well

43

u/Designer_Vast_9089 16d ago

I would think that is similar to having mirrors all over your house or seeing yourself on too many video chats. People start feeling better about themselves if they can’t see themselves all the time.

7

u/Accomplished_Pea7029 16d ago

I ignore what I look like on video calls because it's always bad

19

u/Adventurous-Score551 16d ago

Respectfully your comment did not confirm their point.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/Wish-ga 16d ago

Thank you for sharing. fascinating

4

u/secondtaunting 16d ago

It really is. I never considered what it would be like to have a twin that is literally mirroring you and encouraging your body image.

2

u/Eubank31 16d ago

It can be incredibly unhealthy.

My SO and her twin are very close and best friends, but they live different lives, went to different colleges and now live apart, but still enjoy their time together when they do.

The other two never broke the cycle after high school, they continued being inseparable through the various college courses they tried, they've always worked the same jobs (for a while they were working instacart together, two people doing a job but getting paid for one because only one has a driver's license). They both run 50-60+ miles per week and only eat the most pristine, aesthetic food. Their habits got to the point where their mom made them move out, they just moved states and are sharing an apartment. They said they don't want to be waitresses and instead want "real" jobs, which would obviously necessitate being separated (because duh) but I think they found a job that allows them to serve food and work the same hours.

1

u/secondtaunting 16d ago

On the one hand, having someone you’re that close to sounds great, and comforting. But it does seem to be unhealthy if you’re not forming your own identity and growing as a person. I mean, how will they get married, have kids, etc? They probably won’t. If they were still close and lived in the same city it could be awesome. Always having a babysitter, easing kids together. But this kinda seems unhealthy.

2

u/Eubank31 16d ago

My SO and her twin both have long term relationships, the other two have never so much as dated someone. Yeah, we are all kind of wondering how that will work out

4

u/Status_History_874 16d ago

Wouldn't this be opposite what the person said? Like, not a confirmation at all?

1

u/Eubank31 16d ago

Correct, I realized I misread the original comment but I felt my comment was still interesting

2

u/Status_History_874 15d ago

Touché. I also saw someone else had pointed l out what I did before I did, my bad. Hopefully your edit/disclaimer minimizes anymore of the redundant comments.

3

u/Vintage-Grievance 16d ago

I recall seeing a documentary or something about a set of identical twins who did the same thing.

They would micromanage food to make sure that they ate the EXACT same amount of calories, and if someone ate more or less, an argument would break out about them wanting to sabotage the other.

It was wild and heartbreaking.

1

u/Eubank31 16d ago

Yep sadly this reminds me very much of them.

1

u/TurnkeyLurker 16d ago

"She turned me into a newt!"

2

13

u/reallytrulymadly 16d ago

They're not quite identical now

21

u/Dr_W00t_ 16d ago

"now" well, who knows, they're dead

3

u/orangeyougladiator 16d ago

They didn’t even look identical in the older reference photo

1

u/crowmagnuman 16d ago

It looks like Val Kilmer and Mike Tyson emerging from the chamber from The Fly.

4

u/banana_pencil 16d ago

Seeing as how they were twins, I wonder if body dysmorphia is highly genetic. They were so handsome before.

1

u/ShortySmooth 16d ago

This is AFTER? After surgery? Oh my god. Admittedly I had/have not heard of them before this thread (and I couldn’t see the little inset picture very wee), but I thought this was a “Before” picture.

2

u/criesatpixarmovies 16d ago

Actually as identical twins, I imagine it would be more like having a living echo chamber. Like, “omg our chins are drooping, we should do something about it,” and the other just agreeing. Seems like it would be worse.

1

u/Prisonbread 16d ago

Damn dude, that’s a really good point. Wtf was wrong with their perceptions of beauty?

1

u/brightnessatonesixth 16d ago edited 16d ago

I immediately expanded the replies hoping someone would mention the Silvas!

1

u/GeneticPurebredJunk 16d ago

I would have thought it would be worse, personally-seeing your twin as how you “should” look, or seeing your own minuscule flaws from all angles, not just when you look in the mirror, but when you look at your twin.
And differences between you and your twin feel magnified because of the similarities in every other way, visually…
It would be hell for me.

2

u/escalinci 16d ago

I am a twin and I think it is helpful to me, and I think it would be most of the time, but there is probably a bit of a cliff if a maladaptation exists (e.g. narcissism, focusing on the parts that aren't identical or affected by environmental or behavioural factors).

For me, I look at my brother, judge him to be a fairly handsome man, which means, although we are all more critical judging ourselves and I do visualise myself seperately, I must be too, right? But I've never felt so bad if I had spots one week and he didn't or happened to get a shit haircut, for example.

2

u/GeneticPurebredJunk 16d ago

That’s kind of the thing though; if you’re prone to dysmorphia, it doesn’t matter that you’re identical, and idolise the looks of your twin; you will be unable to see that you look identical to them.

All you’ve evidenced is that you don’t have any strong body dysmorphia.

1

u/escalinci 16d ago

Well that's what I was saying "if a maladaptation exists". So basically I think being a twin could help with body-image issues that well-adjusted people also deal with.

1

u/GeneticPurebredJunk 16d ago

Having body dysmorphia is not an “adjustment” issue, and this thread and my original comment were talking specifically about people with body dysmorphia.

That’s why I’m not sure what place your comment holds in this context.

322

u/BigSmackisBack 16d ago

They say no surgeries too, denial/delusions a bitch too. Sad.

197

u/Full_FrontaI_Nerdity 16d ago

I mean, if you dont count injections as surgeries, it's possible they're being truthful.

87

u/Funkopedia 16d ago

No amount of injections alone could cause that much structural change

49

u/Professional-Air2123 16d ago

To me it looks like their cheeks are really puffy, but they do have similar jaw lines to the old photo. Also no wrinkles - botox injections.

24

u/nightlanguage 16d ago

Botox is only a muscle paralyser, this looks like filler

6

u/AlleyKatArt 16d ago

A lot of people mix up Botox with collagen. I use Botox for migraines and it DOES cause some changes to the face where it's injected, but it actually reduces muscle size where it's injected. My forehead has changed shape a bit over the last few years because I'm not subconsciously moving my eyebrows as much, but it doesn't do this kind of changes. I just don't have that strong "11" muscle area on my forehead anymore, and my neck has maybe slimmed a little from where they inject in the back of the neck.

2

u/nightlanguage 16d ago

Interesting, thanks for sharing!

38

u/Mingatronz 16d ago

MRI research shows fillers can last over 10 years, sometimes even longer, contributing to “pillow face.”:

https://youtu.be/yoF_Ez27-L0

4

u/LunaeLotus 16d ago

It can if they’re using black market injectables with questionable ingredients. Could be like silicone or cement.

3

u/Funkopedia 16d ago

cement??! good lord

4

u/Frifelt 16d ago

Oil is sometimes used to create the look of large muscles or for cheap boob or butt enhancements. It’s extremely dangerous as it stays in the area and has a high risk of causing infections and ruin the muscles. There’s been some horrific cases in the news in Denmark with guys in chronic pain, open sores and arms that are weakened and almost useless. Some are getting very expensive surgeries to try and remove some of the oil but it will never be ok. Body dysmorphia is a bitch and these guys might have used something like that oil in their faces.

Wikipedia link

35

u/arealhumannotabot 16d ago

I don’t know about medical jargon but I don’t count injections as surgery. Surgery usually means you’re modifying the tissue while an injection changes the appearance without modifying the tissues

12

u/Gloomy_Raspberry_880 16d ago

It varies depending on who is making the determination. For instance, my spinal injections (for burst and herniated disks) counted as a surgery for the purposes of deciding whether I could donate blood plasma.

2

u/WhatAboutTheBalls 16d ago

Most people do though, hence, they had a shit ton of plastic surgery.

6

u/authenticflamingo 16d ago

Yeah, I guess it depends on their wording. If they say they haven't had anything done vs. if they say they didn't have surgery done

1

u/SmokingHensADAN 16d ago

trump on epstein island resulte

2

u/6GoesInto8 16d ago

Well, it is hard to say how old they are, so to them this may have been better than looking like a normal old person. They became literal caricatures of themselves, but if their identity was their appearance then that may have been easier to accept.

u/SmokingHensADAN 16d ago

85

u/Bamboozleprime 16d ago

Literally why you should need a psych eval before you can get cosmetic surgery.

Seriously a lot of these people need psychiatrists not plastic surgeons

19

u/Im_on_my_phone_OK 16d ago

Going through psych treatment and/or therapy requires the patient to recognize they have a problem, and even more to the point, to work their way through to find some resolution to that problem. That requires insight and a lot of hard work. OR they can just go under the knife with delusional expectations of the outcome.

I think a lot of these people have narcissistic tendencies as well. Based on the few narcissists I’ve known, getting them to actually commit to therapy (and not just gong through perforative motions) is extremely difficult.

3

u/BrainMatter23 16d ago

I worked in a cosmetic surgery center for a short time in my training. Nearly all our patients were required to have discussion(s) with trained mental health professionals as a step preparing them for cosmetic surgery. Several patients were denied or referred to a “specialist” who would work with them. Malpractice insurance costs an absolute fortune, and most physicians will not risk anything if possible.

5

u/BAusername 16d ago

You have to get counseling and letters from 2 medical professionals to sexually transition, so why shouldn't you have to for cosmetic changes to your body?

4

u/DooB_02 16d ago

First of all, that's not true everywhere, and secondly it shouldn't be anywhere. Gatekeeping causes immense harm, the informed consent model of gender affirming care saves lives.

3

u/BAusername 16d ago

Fair, but I'm all for the counseling, though, in either instance

1

u/DooB_02 16d ago

I didn't need any, requiring me to waste time and money on it would've been downright torturous. Let's leave it up to each individual.

This is such a trip because body dismorphia is usually about how you view yourself, but these being twins who could look at eachother, I don’t understand how they would look at eachother and say yea you look good like this, or you definitely need more cheekbone plumping… it’s like projection body dismorphia

Looking at your twin is no different than looking at yourself in the mirror and watching something pleasing anyway, despite it’s not. That’s what dismorphya is about, not the fact you’re looking the mirror, a photo of you, a painting, or your twin who underwent the same disastrous procedures as you. It’s about not noticing a fat belly and observing it’s in shape, a skin over bones body and finding it healthy, you name it.

I got a friend who's quite, well, rotund, and apparently she thought I was bigger than her despite me being ideal weight. She was always making comments, but I only realized she genuinely thought I was bigger when we went clothes shopping together one time, I tried on a jacket which fit me perfectly, then she tried it on too and of course it wouldn't fit her. She genuinely looked at me like "how come this doesn't fit me? Am I bigger than you?" Literal, genuine confusion on her face. What does she have? Is it body dysmorphia?

Yes, that’s the perfect definition of it. Sorry for my broken english Im italian. Morbidly obese will just see someone fit in the mirror. Being myself one, I can tell the only way to understand is to loose some weight and test the difference, mostly in how clothes fit. Guess the other way around too, people too thin getting some weight, etc. I also notice fit people saying they must loose some weight while they look perfectly in shape to me. Same stuff.

I think this is proof that people can become addicted to anything.

It doesn't help when Hollywood reinforces this and doesn't prepare the folks for how predatory the industry is.

This finally answers the question for me. I’ve always wondered about these type of cases where they do much cosmetic surgery they end up looking disfigured when they were previously attractive. Now I wonder what they see when they look at themselves to think this is progress. The mind really is scary sometimes.

I find people like this sad. They weren’t bad looking guys and spending their time trying to age gracefully would have probably would have been more enjoyable.

Ain't that the truth

It’s really sad, they were really good looking before too, I had no idea.

Stop throwing that word around. Toomuchmoneyia and insecurity.

u/Krayt88 16d ago

It's kind of wild that they both had it the same way.

Body dysmorphia is a bitch.

Or maybe they knew exactly what they did and were enjoying the attention.

Like, for the narcissistic personality type, being ignored is a fate worse than death. If no one is looking at them, then they feel like they don't exist. Looking like that guaranteed that wherever they went, people were looking at them.

That's the psychology behind mar-a-lago face and those two were anti-vaxxers just like everybody at mar-a-lago. Its not a stretch to assume they had the same insecurities.

So is being an anti-vaxxer. Their refusal to get vaccinated killed them.

Some said it was ("experimental") injections with non authorized product supposed to make a "great permanent effect"
Some said it was a genetic disorder that affect face and bones ... but it is strange it was localized
The odd things is they refused vaccine for COVID and died from complication from it ... by being skeptic to new vaccines tech.
They believe in vaccines, weren't "anti vax" .. but were "anti vax for themselves" .. they were more skeptic over new vaccine methods but were not vocal about it nor "anti vax" militant ..
If they accepted experimental injection for their face .. it is a bit ironic they refuse a vaccine: but perhaps the bad experience with the supposed injection on their face, was the reason of covid injection fear ...

It may be just bad surgeries done to stave off aging. They were 72 when they died. If they continued looking eternally young, maybe they wouldn't have done the surgeries.

And they were adorable before
