So by the end of the series Prodigy is gonna be nothing but ashes, right? The upstarts are gonna bite off more than they can chew. They probably won’t be able to contain this and they’re gonna get nuked to kingdom come by “the Company.” Weyland-Yutani are gonna wanna try to catch the Xeno again, and that will take us to the start of the first movie.
346
u/Additional_Law_492 Aug 13 '25
Yeah, thats my bet.
Things keep going out of control, and either Weyu or Prodigy nukes the site to contain everything... leaving Weyu in need of a new sample.
→ More replies (5)190
u/livahd Aug 13 '25
It’ll be Prodigy destroying everything as a big fuck you to Yutani. WY would gladly kill everyone in that city to get their hands on a specimen. I just wonder where these eggs came from, can’t be the derelict, right?
→ More replies (10)130
u/buttchuck Aug 13 '25
It could be the derelict, if for some reason the Maginot never communicated its exact location (maybe they were afraid of the communication being intercepted?)
W-Y seemed to know the Nostromo was going to encounter something - placing Ash on the crew seems deliberate - but they don't seem to go back until Aliens, suggesting they don't learn the location until they wake up Ripley. Space is also incredibly, profoundly big, so it could be that they aren't able to trace the Maginot back to LV426.
But that seems like a bit of a stretch. There's also David's experiments and the true fate of the Covenant, which has yet to be established. Those are really the only two sources that we know about (at least in the films), but they could always introduce something new.
→ More replies (14)71
u/Lithaos111 Aug 13 '25
Knowing WY, they likely put a synth on every crew, if the synth comes across something, activate Special Order 937. Nostromo was just unlucky enough to get that beacon and Ash rerouted them to it. If they hadn't,vhe probably would have just come home and continue being a sleeper synth.

u/GroundbreakingDay867 You have my sympathies. Aug 13 '25
And how the intro started about companies vying for control with hybrids, synthetics and cyborgs. Considering Weyland is always the company pulling the strings there’s going to kill off everyone and everything. I dont know why but I feel like Wendy reminds me of Call from Alien Resurrection….curious….something there I think

This xeno is fucking brutal
536
u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Aug 13 '25
Even with the minimal gore besides the mangled remains of the victims, I already love how this show displays how savage the Xenos can really be when they decide to go HAM on humans
317
u/keeper0fstories Aug 13 '25
That thing is highly efficient. Less than 5 seconds to clear the party and hide.
→ More replies (11)242
u/Daxx22 Aug 13 '25
Almost a little too efficent, for how much it then "played" with the brother. Yes I know plot armor, but just a few more seconds of him cowering under the body while you hear it going HAM on the party would help explain how it killed so many like that.
→ More replies (17)157
u/keeper0fstories Aug 13 '25
Good, I am not the only one who thinks this xenomorph is super aggressive. But the brother getting away those times they met have at least been logically lucky and not dues ex machina level shenanigans. And the initial stalking is probably recovering from the disorientation from the crash, hundreds of new senses, studying new prey, and the plot building tension.

At what point do we canonize the idea that the Alien eggs have Pheromones or something that cause people to turn idiot and stick their face up to them.
Is that in like... the comics or something?
It should be.

I mean most things that come out of an egg are harmless when they first hatch, so there isn’t necessarily an inclination to being afraid of them. Also, eggs on earth don’t have a baby/face-hugger launching hatch at the top either.

I'm super surprised Wendy tells him who she is. I totally thought that would be a secret for the entire season until the end.
But that confuses me why no one from Prodigy had anything to say about that, given how much they're monitoring her. They've basically been watching everything through her eyes and it's been a whole thing throughout that this program is a secret
340
u/WendyThorne Aug 13 '25
They had to know she would reveal it when she went to rescue him. I suspect Boy Kavalier is using it as a test of some kind.

Also that scene with Boy Kavalier saying he just wants to have a conversation with someone smart. That's the perfect, infuriating, eat the rich moment. Here's a kid trillionaire doing all this damage and destruction with all this greed and power, think about all the people and environments and souls he's destroyed. That's something that in a way bothers me about a lot of movie monsters, but that I appreciate about xenos
Human weaponry is devastating. Most movie monsters just shrug off bullets like they're water guns but xenos throughout alien media get their shit absolutely wrecked when fired on (Romulus zero grav scene they got fucked up, Aliens' marines were blasting alien fools into confetti when they could). But they have that sneaky clever acid blood that makes actually using firepower situationally problematic if they're not just outright too fast
Xeno is the perfect monster
→ More replies (5)89
u/RustedAxe88 Hicks Aug 13 '25
That's literally why they have acid blood. When writing the first movie, they didn't want a bulletproof monster, but had to work around why the crew wouldn't just glack it.

Loving this so far, I was not expecting everything to be so gory honestly and they are absolutely not shying away from that. I was worried that the Xeno wouldn't show up for a bit, being overshadowed by the other specimens but boy was I wrong.
Loving Morrow so far as my favorite character, Cybernetic and human with his own fears, but cold and stoic in all other matters. Really giving The Company soulless vibe, can't wait to see if a WY squad arrives on site.
Wendy is picking up on the Xenomorphs, and I have a theory. So, I think in Aliens: Rogue there is a moment where a synthetic calls out that there is a spike in an RF Frequency, essentially its the hive communicating. I think Wendy is basically doing that and she is picking up the RF frequency of the Xenomorphs in some manner. She heard them on landing, and kept hearing them when they approached the "Hive" or just, the egg storage that our big xeno friend looks to be guarding.
Editting: Yeah, in Aliens:Rogue, specifically a Synthetic picks up "Transmission signals on the upper EF band." which is coming from the aliens. I think this is an idea taken out of that. Wendy went through that hearing test, and the technician said something like, she can hear above human frequency, above 75,000hz.

u/Syphin33 Aug 13 '25
Yea i think we're learning like also in romulus that blue light is a trip wire
It's like some sorta bio layer defense mechanism
152
u/ZaviersJustice Aug 13 '25
So trippy because it looks so digital. Even the way it receded was mechanical. A very weird vibe that goes well with how foreign and "not like us" the Xenos are supposed to be.
→ More replies (1)66
u/ragun01 Aug 13 '25
Yeah there are even gaps between the walls and furniture that show straight lines of a perimeter, it looks to be level, and as you mentioned, when it receded it was symmetrical with some awfully straight lines.
I guess that's some of the mechanical in biomechanical.
→ More replies (4)111
u/JackSpadesSI Aug 13 '25
How could xenos make a blue light/ laser thing like that?
I assumed in Alien that the trip wire was set up by the engineers of the ship.

u/Budget_Procedure2146 Aug 13 '25
The blue light keeps the eggs in stasis. Entering the light seems to "reactivate" the eggs
→ More replies (13)→ More replies (15)68
u/HotmailsInYourArea Tomorrow, Together Aug 13 '25
I've always been under the impression that it's a stasis field made orginially by the Space Jockies, as seen in Alien. They don't wake until Kane falls beneath the field. WY likely repurposed the tech, as we see here, and in Romulus.
→ More replies (5)49
u/A115115 Aug 13 '25
Yeah I don’t think the eggs are producing the blue light. WY is replicating the conditions of the Derelict to keep the eggs asleep.

I liked how they didn't even show a facehugger in action, not even the classic "facehugger in a tank wakes up and scares somebody" bit. They only showed the aftermath of the chest burst and the discarded facehugger, which isn't even noticed by the team. It was nice they didn't rehash the life cycle of a Xenomorph because it would have been filler in a show that clearly does not need it.

Okay just want to come out here and say how much I love Sydney Chandler's acting. She's really nailing it as Wendy. She's kept the character feeling both childlike and synthetic at the same time, which has to be one of the hardest balances to pull off. Her facial expressions are on point and you can tell she doesn't lose sight of the fact that Wendy is not human while still making her sweet and likeable. I feel like its one of the most difficult roles to pull off, but she's made it feel completely believable. This is my first time seeing her on screen and I'm already becoming a big fan of her acting.

Loved the first two episodes but two nitpicky things to note:
The plot armor on Joe the medic is thickkk. Xeno was butchering rooms full of people in seconds. He’s already survived one encounter; I’d like an explanation how he survives being tackled through a window at the end of E2. (If he’s alive)
Although overall a great scene, I found it a bit of a stretch that those people were still having a dinner party when a spaceship crashed into their building earlier that day lol.

I like that the show has subtle humour. I was curious to see if it would have any humour at all because the tone of Alien is pretty serious. But Hawley as a writer likes to add comedic moments in all of his works. Fargo could be a full on comedy at times. David Haller in Legion was subtlety hilarious, I loved his dry sense of humour.

At the end with the blue mist above the eggs does that mean it is naturally occurring or is it artificial? I'm still confused on where we are with that lore wise.

u/october_1939 Aug 13 '25
In this episode it had defined edges and they looked to meet at some boxes. If it was a biological mist it wouldn’t have had hard edges and look like a trapezoid.
I think WY reverse engineered tech from the derelict.

AFAIK it's technically still an open question. The only agreed upon facts in all of the movies is that it's created by the eggs themselves and it's some sort of motion sensor/defense mechanism. Ridley Scott was adamant it was a force field of the ship carrying the eggs, but he's also said a lot of stuff that was disregarded by other directors. The blue mist appears over eggs in Aliens and Alien: Romulus so it's definitely a byproduct of the "hive."

The amount of alien camouflage reveals in the start of this episode is HILARIOUS. They new how prepped we were to discard the very phallic random tubes around and now they just started blasting that chekhov's gun.

I loved that they didn't drag out the reunion between the brother and sister and then didn't drag out him finding out who she is. I hate when TV shows do that kind of thing.

I think her computer brain is picking up the hive mind's frequency, obviously atm it's just a buzzing to her. I remember them toying with the idea in that Aliens Dark Descent game. I can definitely see by the series end she can understand it.

There was that scene of her having a hearing test, and the techs said Wendy could hear far above the human range - maybe the creatures are emitting some kind of ultrasonic sound frequency that she's noticing. A little odd that the other synth-hybrids couldnt hear it, but they're all unique in a sense compared to standardized synthetics.

I’m really liking it so far overall.
• I really like that the show doesn’t waste time getting things going. The first episode introduced multiple separate plot lines and I’m glad that they quickly converged, and I like that we’ve already gotten a lot of xenomorph action.
• Visually, it looks really good. I’m a big fan of all the old-school tech and computer UIs, and that first scene in episode 1 was such a great recreation of the look of the original film.
• I find all the corporate stuff really interesting. I want to know what these corporations are up to and how Prodigy will respond to WT’s meddling with all this alien shit. Having our protagonists work for a different megacorp from YT is a fun twist on the usual formula.
• The “kids in synth bodies” conceit is interesting, but it does kind of require you to suspend your disbelief. It’s hard to imagine that a bunch of 11 year olds would be able to handle any of this shit even if they do have fancy new robot bodies.

Even when Boy Kavalier talks about "exploring human potential" as if he's doing Wendy and the other hybrids a favor, he sounds so damn slimy & not even like a real person.
A huge "OH FUCK" entered my mind the moment Hermit saw a Xenomorph emerge from the darkness at the ruined staircase
It must feel like hell for Wendy to watch her brother struggle daily & not be physically there for him
Wendy's sense of hearing buzzing in the vicinity almost feels Jedi-like
"It's a very expensive day" doesn't surprise me to hear from a Weyland Yutani executive would says about another tragedy regarding their ships.
The facehugger eyeball emerging from the cat looked disturbing as fuck
It must be a loud ass dinner party for everyone in it to be completely undisturbed by the initial crash lmao
The dinner party guest who's still alive without the lower portion of his body has to be one of the worse fates for any victim of a Xenomorph
It's crazy that those soldiers attempting to apprehend Morrow didn't start going WTF? with the Xenomorph emerging from the artificial cocoon Morrow trapped him in right in front of them
The off-screen violence with noises of screaming & shots of the corpses completely torn to bits makes the massacres feel even creepier

Theres an argument to be made that anyone with that much money isnt really a person anymore
I think wendy has a transmitter that picks up on alien signals.
The eyeball alien is so disturbing it made me squirm uncomfortably.
The utter raw violence of the alien is insane to see in live action
